Yesterday
Yesterday I flushed a beautiful robin in hoophouse number 1. She appeared to be looking for worms and had not touched any of the beautiful brassica sprouts boiling from the beds. This is the first robin I've seen this year. As you are probably aware, the Mid-Atlantic is still knee deep in snow. (Our low tunnels are still all but invisible in the crusted ice-like snow.) Given the zone gain created by double 6mil greenhouse plastic, I'll expect to start seeing robins outdoors in about 15 days. -Allan PS Necessary disclaimer for posterity: I did see the robin in the hoophouse yesterday, but I'm teasing with the conclusions I drew from that

Yesterday I flushed a beautiful robin in hoophouse number 1. Allan - remind me, is the US robin the same as ours in Britain (Erithacus rubecula)? I've heard the story that nostalgic early settlers gave native birds the names of British ones which they resemble.Tony N-S. _ Overloaded with spam? Re: Yesterday (today and tomorrow)
There's a tree with that nickname (Yesterday, Today and tomorrow), a saucer Magnolia? because the flowers change colors as they age. today is sunny and green, some of the mud is receding, finally. I have a mockingbird who is flitting around the eaves of the greenhouse and the brilliant bluebirds come out in droves every afternoon, looking for the earthworms washed up by all the rains. Robins start here early January, maybe they overwinter, or go 'barely' south of here, I don't know.
Re: earthworms being recycled by Robins
there are large flocks of robins in sonoma county for the last 10 days or so and they are enjoying our large earthworm populations Bob
