Dear Allan,

I'll try. Rainmaking is sure important. I'd like to see more workshops organized. I'll teach them if others will organize them.

As for getting "disappeared" it is surely possible. If I disappear you can be sure what has happened. I have had trouble keeping my mouth shut when things suck the way they do. I protested the Viet Nam war too, once I got out of the Air Force. Back in '77 I had a FOIA exempt file that was a couple inches thick, presumably because the CIA has had me under surveliance for some time. Great stuff, considering I'm far from anti-social. I'm part of the solution, not part of the problem, and I wish no ill on anyone. I'd give Richard Nixon or George Bush a free meal and speak civilly to them any day. But I see what is going on, and I think it is time for those who will to wake up. Our democracy is in grave danger. The stampede to war? Very dangerous. Maybe we should save Israel. Maybe no one else can or will. I don't know this to be true, but I'm not trying to pass judgment on that or stand in its way. I'll simply continue doing what I can to make things better. What I think is so foreign to the American way is that dissent will not be tolerated. So I may get shipped to the Gulags--or worse. Better make use of me while you have me. I've already spent too many years not keeping my mouth shut. At least you will know what has happened to me.

Storch wants me to keep my mouth shut. It's a good idea, only I should cower in fear in a time of crisis? There's a good chance I'd disappear even if I kept my mouth shut--depends on how scared the leadership is.

Best,
Hugh

"Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the
citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a
double-edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the
mind...

And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils
with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in
seizing the rights of the citizenry.

Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded with patriotism,
will offer up all of their rights unto the leader - and gladly so.

How do I know?

For this is what I have done.

DearStacey,

You're right, of course. But how many will see that Congress's efforts to
give up our rights to president Bush's agenda involves giving up our
responsibilities? It a bit oblique. Anyway, I think we need to strike out
in a new direction, which is why I resoundingly endorse the Green Party. I
hope you will vote.

Why, Hugh, is it that we only hear from the Green Party just before
election day? I never seem to hear a peep, otherwise. I'm one of
those trusting souls who believe that a wolf in a democrats clothing
is somewhat better than a wolf in republican's clothing. It makes it
hard for me to literally through my vote to the republicans by voting
for a Green Party that doesn't seem to work hard enough to ever have
a chance of winning.

It's not easy to forget that had that literal dildo Ralph Nader not
taken votes from Al Gore, Bush would have had to be even more blatant
in the stealing of Florida.

Don't get me wrong. I'm all for the Green Party and would like to see
it as a dominant force in this country. For now, however, I don't get
it.

Do tell us more.

Dear Allan,

I have to agree that the republicans are far worse than the democrats. Both
are very bad, however. Why not have the worst so the problems with their
agenda come to light more readily? Learning what I only suspected a week
ago--that the World Trade Center debacle was inspired by our own
government, and that the Bali bombing was too? I just didn't encounter the
evidence any sooner than this, that's all. I suspected it from the first I
heard of both events, however. I can't say I have placed much trust in any
of our leaders except, perhaps, Jimmy Carter. But we know the US and Israel
have perfected the manufacture of what were called tactical nuclear
warheads. These were also called battlefield nuclear warheads. Small bombs
such as were set off under the Trade Center and in the storm drains in
Bali.

I know from my scientific studies it only takes 10 kilograms of plutonium
to go critical. For Uranium 235 fifty kilograms are needed for critical
mass, a lot more fissionable material, a much bigger bomb. When the
Israelis tested their bomb in the Negev Desert the seismic spike was small
enough that there was debate whether they had really tested a nuclear
weapon or not. Of course nuclear weapons of this sort are the logical way
for Israel to go with their nuclear program. I don't know of any other
countries besides the US and Israel that have perfected this sort of weapon.

As a biodynamic farmer I apply Rudlof Steiner's homeopathic agricultural
remedies to my farm and I grow corn as a soil improvement crop without
fertilizers. I'm harvesting carbon dioxide and nitrogen out of the air
where they are abundant. My main input is my tractor and diesel fuel, and
the remedies are homeopathic and applied radionically so there is no using
them up to worry about. You can ask anyone who has seen it what my soil is
like--it's teeming with life.

Although Georgia has had a long string of drought years I quit using my
irrigation equipment long ago as I have discovered how to make rain. It's
cheap and effective and the last eight years I have had adequate rain for
free out of the sky for all my crops. And it's not a miracle, I can teach
people how to do it. I'm giving a rain making seminar out in Santa Fe, NM
the 22 and 23rd of November, courtesy of CHI/Bioneers and Kenny Ausubel.
I'm hoping farmers here in Georgia will pick up on this and organize some
courses here. I do this for a living, and I'm totally immersed in it.

Cleaning up our environment PAYS, rather than costs. It's pollution that
costs. I get all my nitrogen fertilizer out of the atmosphere for FREE.
It's biological and abundant. Other farmers are paying through the nose for
it, and in the process destroying their soils and the environment in
general. Out in the sandhills of Nebraska the nitrate contamination of the
aquifer is so bad farmers sometimes joke they don't use fertilizer any
more--they irrigate. Of course, they still have to pump from the aquifer,
which is not as cheap and nowhere near as good for crops as making rain.

For me doom is boom, and if it means letting republicans get in office
everywhere so the bankruptcy of their agenda comes into full view? I'm for
it. Elect the bastards. But I'm not wasting my vote on them. I'm voting
GREEN at every opportunity. GREEN is where the real difference lies. And
when GREENS get in office we can make a REAL difference since good
environmental policy and good government is cheap and efficient. It's the
only thing that makes sense.

I'll admit to voting for democrats too. I'm especially itchy to vote for
Max Cleland, our Georgia dem senator who voted against Bush's war. They are
out to get him--smear tactics and real underhanded stuff like putting his
phone numbers in their smear ads telling people to call him and protest his
stance on a certain education bill so his phones will be tied up. There
really aren't many Greens to vote for, but we need votes for Greens badly
so we reach critical mass to gain automatic ballot access. Right now you
have to vote Green by write-in. Not good. Well, enough said.

Best,
Hugh

Re:OFF (rights)

2002-11-03 Thread Stacey Elin Rossi
In my poly sci and legal theory classes, the term
right was considered to implicitly assign a duty,
as by the very nature of what a right is.

You raise good points. Is our current political
 system up to the tasks?
When the UN was formed Mahatma Ghandi was asked to
 contribute to the
writing of a BILL of RIGHTS for humanity. He flatly
 refused, saying that
what was need was not a Bill of Rights but a Bill of
 Responsibilities. Why?
Because a Bill of Rights makes people the victims of
 their perpetrators,
while a Bill of Responsibilities makes everyone the
 policemen of themselves.

We can know, especially now that the nuclear truths
 of 9/11 and the Bali
bombing are revealed, that our existing political
 system has failed. It has
not done the job FOR us that we needed to do. We are
 in the beginnings of a
nuclear war with tactical nuclear weapons. We have
 to ask, How responsible
is that? Very? Maybe? Not at all? I'm sure
 different people will have
 different opinions.

Many years ago an Indian scientist, Dr. Ravi Batra,
 stated what he called
the rule of Cognitive Dissonance. He said, The mind
 involuntarily rejects
information that is contrary to its beliefs. It is
 automatic, without
thought. Inside Germany people believed Hitler was a
 genius and their
savior right up until the end of the war. Everyone
 outside knew otherwise.
We are seeing a similar phenomenon inside America
 today. People refuse to
believe their government is not their friend. Most
of them are my age or
older, as I am amongst the last of the baby boomers.
 The old advice that
all is illusion and one must see the world with new
 eyes, is right on.

How we will restore the fisheries of the world is a
 world problem, as you
point out. I happen to like eating fish, so I'm
 very concerned. I grew up
near the coast of Louisiana where the fishing was
 great and the pollution
even better. I'm looking at how to grow fresh water
 prawns on my farm in
north Georgia, but that's a personal solution only.
 Global solutions may
grow out of personal solutions, since personal
solutions pave the way. If I
stop buying fish and start growing some alternative,
 the question is half
addressed. The other half? The global half? It is
 times like these when
the system comes down around our ears that
 everyone is piqued to
question, and the opportunities for growth occur.
