Hi allan Before you dismantle anything. Check the nozzle and the spray jet. It is a simple job just to undo the cap at the end and you may find your blockage is in the spray tip. Just poke it out with a pin. If it is a new sprayer it may be just some rubbish left in the sprayer by the manufacturer. Most of my blokages occur at the spray tip and for this i have a safety pin attached to my sprayer. It seems to be the opposite problem: pressure builds up but nothing comes out. I ask about this because it seems to unlikely that the outlet w.b. blocked so tightly internally. I suspect a design 'trick' that experienced users know a workaround for. Plus, I just don't have the time to disassemble the thing if it's not necessary...if you know what I mean.
Re: "struggling with my old solo diaphragm"
Hi Alan, Your situation sounds familia. I have a Solo knapsack 15liter model. The blockage I found is at the bottom of that large bottle shaped thing in the middle. The quick fix is to force some high pressure water back through the outlet then wash the inside out and tip out through the lid. the long method is to take it apart clean it reassemble, spray another half tank full then repeat. Sound like fun dosen't it Thats one of the reasons I like the hoeopathic approach. Glen has a motorised air fan model that is a bit more tolerant of the herbal brews that are often so useful in our way of life. Re: "struggling with my old solo diaphragm"
perhaps the diaphragm has a crack in it? needs only to be tiny and the air will leak out and the pump not work. It worked great for the first hour or so and I was very glad that I purchased it. Now it's got this weird thing going on. You pump it a few times and it feels 'pumped' but will not spray. I guess this means that the outlet is clogged. It's a nice, clean, pump that's had nothing that wouldn't pass through panty hose mesh poured into it. What a hassle to think of completely disassembling it to find that blockage. Or is it not a blockage and just a quirk? Yesterday I picked up a new 3-gal Shindaiwa backpack sprayer. "struggling with my old solo diaphragm"
I recently purchased a new 4-gal SOLO diaphragm sprayer. What a dream it appears to be!! -Allan
