Hello,
Also through the serial debug port I observed the booting stuck at
following line for 20 seconds,
*Waiting for root device /dev/mmcblk0p2...*

IIRC the MAC is stored in an .nvs file. If so, you might be able to modify
it using the calibrator tool. But I'm not sure if this is available in the
angstrom image.

Hello Robert sir,
Thanks for quick reply. Ubuntu is booting from eMMC
because I am getting ssh access on my host PC. But display is not working.
I am showing a splashscreen using fbi package and init.d script. Using
serial debug port I found that fbi can be issue. But I am totally confused.
Is there any solution or direction to solve this problem? Thanking you.

Re: [beagleboard] BBB and internet

2014-02-05 Thread doog
If you can't run a command someone lists then you need to install the
package which provides that command.
You'll need to lookup how to install iptables on your host system( as in
apt-get install iptables for Debian systems )

Re: [beagleboard] BBB and internet

2014-02-05 Thread doog
I kinda expected people to look at what the script was doing so I didn't
not explain every aspect of how it works.
Looking at the setup-bbb-ipforwarding script you see the line which starts
with scp? that is like "cp" and it copies files so looking at it you should
see that it is trying to copy the setup-bbb-ipforwarding-onBBB to the BBB.
and there is no path for that file specified so it MUST be in the same
directory you are running the host script from.

after the "scp" command you should see the line beginning with "ssh". that
is running a secure shell to the BBB and tries to run the "-onBBB"
script. So if it is not there it can't execute it.

If you look in the -onBBB script you will see it is just a list of the
2 things which set the route to the host computer and set the name server
in /etc/resolv.conf.

Thanks for the reply! I actually used dmesg to figure out it was an HDMI
pin conflict, so I disabled it and SSHd. Voila! It works like a charm. I
appreciate the support, and will surely have more questions down the road.

[beagleboard] Re: BBB - won't boot with wrong UUID for rootfs with Debian

2014-02-05 Thread Brad Andersen
Update:
Mr Nelson confirmed my thoughts and provided a means to fix:
You can use this image as a recovery..

http://elinux.org/BeagleBoardDebian#BeagleBone

Just remember to hold down the boot button..

Then using
lsblk
ls -lh /dev/disk/by-uuid/

fix both

uEnv.txt (on /dev/mmcblk1p1 ) & /etc/fstab (on /dev/mmcblk1p2)

Also, using a newer image for the flasher image fixed it also.

[beagleboard] BBB - won't boot with wrong UUID for rootfs with Debian

2014-02-05 Thread Brad Andersen

My BBB won't boot now when it tries to mount the root device. I must have
copied some file from another BBB and messed up something.

My guess is the /etc/fstab and /boot/uboot/uEnv.txt files. Are there
others?

I have tried using the BBB-eMMC-flasher-debian-7.2-2013-11-15.img, but I
still get the same problem after removing the sdcard and repowering up the
BBB.

What is the best way to recover from this?
Just remove all files on the eMMC partitions?
Other?

[beagleboard] debian: test images (2014-02-05)

2014-02-05 Thread Robert Nelson
Another week, more fixes, do you sense we are getting closer to release???

First, for tracking please report all bugs to:
http://bugs.elinux.org/projects/debian-image-releases

Kernel:
3.8.13-bone39 -> 3.8.13-bone40
* fix /var/log filling up: (disabled CONFIG_USB_GADGET_DEBUG)
* added CBB-Serial cape

Changes:
New bb.org mirror repo at beagle.s3.amazonaws.com/debian
xinput_calibrator fixes from Louis
/etc/init.d/capemgr improvemnts (now lists multiple overlay with a
comma seperator)
libsoc upgraded to 0.6

Camera people (3.1MP and RadiumBoards):
What userspace programs are we missing? gstreamer? OpenCV plugins?

I really want to include a default shell script that'll take a picture
and allow end users to validate the 3.1/Radium capes work.

https://github.com/RobertCNelson/boot-scripts/tree/master/device/bone/capes

Does your "cape" work?

Does your wifi adapter work? Are we missing it's firmware?

It takes about 10-15 Minutes to dd microSD (2GB), 15 minutes to flash
eMMC (look for full 4 LED's)

2GB standalone image that can be flashed to any 2GB or greater.

It takes about 10-15 Minutes to dd microSD (2GB)

To resize once booted:
* cd /opt/scripts/
* git pull
* ./tools/grow_partition.sh
* sudo reboot

Finally one of my classic "setup_sdcard.sh".

Note for users who use my classic "setup_sdcard.sh" script, here is
the magic options to get the beaglebone project files + systemd.

sudo ./setup_sdcard.sh --mmc /dev/sdX --uboot bone
--beagleboard.org-production --enable-systemd

To "rebuild"
git clone git://github.com/beagleboard/image-builder.git
cd image-builder
git checkout bb.org-v2014-02-05 -b tmp
touch release
./beagleboard.org_image.sh

and what does your definition of don't work right mean? rtl8187 has been
in kernel source for a long time. I have no issues with any of my
adapters which are all rtl8187 based. I just have to patch for a
non-upstream feature for my use case. Explain more about what you mean
and I am sure more help can be offered. I do not use Ubuntu though so
can't say for certain there is not a bug in the driver for their kernel.

There's no need to connect index or strobe. Make sure you don't have any pin
conflicts with the hdmi pins. You can also troubleshoot by connecting the eqep

Honestly, i don't know.. "it" kinda worked for video back in the v3.2.x
days.. Ever since the fall of maemo/Nokia, the main developer behind
gst-dsp stopped working on it. So fast forward to today... That's why i
purged it from the wiki... It's broken un-maintained crap..

Re: [beagleboard] BBB and internet

2014-02-05 Thread doog
I thought this a handy thing to do so I put the BBB side commands in an
executable script and then created another script for the host side. The
host side copies(via scp) the BBB script to the BBB and then executes
it(via ssh) and then sets up the host(Linux). Run the host side with sudo
or as root.

Doug

--BBB side: file name: setup-bbb-ipforwarding-onBBB

#!/bin/bash
#from:
http://www.crashcourse.ca/wiki/index.php/BBB_networking_in_tethered_mode

# enables networking of the BBB over the usb network if
# this along with a few commands on the host/server side enable
ipforwarding over the usb networking

echo "route add default gw 192.168.7.1"
/sbin/route add default gw 192.168.7.1
echo "echo nameserver 8.8.8.8 > /etc/resolv.conf"

If you have a DHCP server in your network, usually the router in a
home network, then BBB should simply connect like any computer and you
should be able to search for the BBB e.g. with nmap or in the logfiles
of your DHCP server.
Did you have a look at /var/log/kern.log after reboot?
Did you reboot with eth0 plugged in?

I guess this might be a hardware problem of your BBB.

[beagleboard] Re: How to setup ethernet over USB with Debian

2014-02-05 Thread doog
so maybe your Windows system is blocking ip forwarding.
pinging 8.8.8.8 and google.com say the same thing because 8.8.8.8 is a name
server out in the wild wild Internet and google.com is a server out in the
same space.
Your route table looks like mine so what's left is your host computer so I
think you'll find the answer searching for how or why Windows does ip
forwarding.

It's not a permissions problem.. Your mmc device node changed name..
Fix your bootargs & /etc/fstab...

Look into using UUID's..

2014-02-05 Thread doog
there is a special flash/eMMC image of the Angstrom BBB releases so I would
venture to guess there's something other than copying over a couple of
partitions.
Unless someone who knows the ins/outs of the eMMC boot flashing process
chimes in, you might research what the flashing images do so to found out
what you might have to tweak to get your Ubuntu system booting from eMMC.

[beagleboard] xM Bare Metal video output

2014-02-05 Thread dean . wedel
Greetings to all!

I have a "bare-metal" build running on my xM Rev C Beagleboard with output
going over the serial port.

Now I would like to begin using the onboard HDMI connector for video
output. Does anyone have some "C" code that I can look at (and use) to do
this via "bare-metal" on the xM board?

Thanks!

[beagleboard] BBB and internet

2014-02-05 Thread hacktorious
Hello,

I received my new BBB in the mail a couple days ago. I've spent a
ridiculous amount of time to get something as simple as an internet
connection and am not having any success. I feel like I've been through
ever post on the internet and am still not having luck.

Here is my situation:

I've plugged my BBB into my usb and am able to ssh to it. However, the
device cannot connect to the internet no matter what I do. Now I think its
messed up.

How can I revert the following command. I was following directions to setup
internet sharing from my mac and ran the below command on the BBB. Now I
think its all messed up.
*route add* default *gw 192.168.7.1*

Furthermore, I am not able to use the network cable plug because the BBB
just crashes and shuts down whenever I attempt this. Even after I pull the
cable out it tends to crash the next several times after I plug it back
in. The network cable seems to be performing some sort of black magic on
the BBB.

Does anyone have any recommendations on the correct procedure for
connecting my BBB to the internet?

Here is what I have:
Default emmc angstrom install.
Mac OSX Mavericks
Both BBB drivers have been installed on my mac

Please help. Thanks.

There's also one in the v3.2.x dir:

Great news! So this _is_ for the BeagleBone (with the HDMI and other
BeagleBone kernel patches) or just for the plain AM335x kernel?

[beagleboard] BeagleBone Black touch input problem with ESD protection

2014-02-05 Thread moore.cyril
Hi Guys,

I have been working on an expansion board for the BBB that includes a
resistive LCD touchscreen. The problem that we are having is that our ESD
protection diodes seem to break the break the touch input.

We are using a 4 wire touch interface on AN0, AN1, AN2, and AN3. The
symptom we are seeing is that when the diode is connected to the touch
interrupt seems to be triggered inconsistently.

When checking the signals with a scope, it shows that the interrupt seems
to work fine until an application that uses touch is run then it becomes
inconsistent. This does not happen if the ESD diode is removed. The apps we
are running are the Qt calibration and Qt touch test. Looking at the raw
data from the touch device from within Linux on the BBB we see a steady
stream of data before a touch app is run, then inconsistent data streams
once a touch app is running AND after the app closes. Again this symptom
does not happen with the diode removed.

My question is 2 parts:

1)What could be happening that would make the touch interrupt inconsistent
only when that diode is present AND one of these applications is run?

2) Do we really need additional ESD protection? Does Anyone have any
experience with a BBB and a heavy usage resistive touch screen, that is not
have additional ESD protection? In the two cape examples I looked at
additional ESD protection is not used.

This is the ESD part that we are
using: http://www.comchiptech.com/cms/UserFiles/CPDT6-5V4U%20RevD364097.pdf

Thanks

Cyril

Re: [beagleboard] Re: DM3730: working DSP and 1GHz

2014-02-05 Thread Maxim Podbereznyy
Robert,
first of all I need to bring up DSP. I executed the script
create_dsp_package.sh, got DSP_Install_libs.tar.gz, copied it to a target
with debian running, unpacked, ran install-DSP.sh. Then I ran "/etc/init.d/dsp
start" and now I want to test DSP somehow. Can you poke into instructions
how to test DSP? On the web I found that it was possible to run something
like "dsp-test", but I don't find it in my installation

SGX:
I can see https://github.com/RobertCNelson/tools/tree/master/x86/ti_omapscripts:

 create_dsp_package.sh

 create_sgx_package_2.6.37.sh

 create_sgx_package_3.2.x.sh

should I run create_sgx_package_3.2.x.sh?

Back in the 3.2.x days, we did things a little different.. The sgx
drivers where built into the staging tree, so we just needed the lib's
from the sgx bin. So there's an extract script..

I don't really remember a lot from that branch, not sure what still

You can override the mac address, thereby adding your own, by just
adding "hwaddress ether xyz" to /etc/network/interfaces

cat /etc/network/interfaces | grep hwaddress
hwaddress ether 00:19:b8:00:f0:88

[beagleboard] Setting a MAC address on beaglebone cape.

2014-02-05 Thread ccsbrock
Hi, not sure if I am posting in the right place (please let me know if I
wrong!)

I have two (white)beaglebones, each of them have the wifi cape with the
TiWi-5 chips
(http://elinux.org/CircuitCo:BeagleBone_TiWi-5E_w/_EXT._Antenna)

Getting them to connect to the network was no problem at all, it is after
that the the problems occurred.
Only one of them would show up on the network at a time.
They had the same hostname and were being assigned the same IP address by
the router, so after changing the host name and setting a static IP, I
notice that the MAC addresses for both boards are the same, and the router
is still only picking up one board at a time.

Checking both boards ssh over USB shows that they believe they each have a
separate IP address and are connected. So I was wondering if anyone knew
how to change the MAC address for the beaglebone with wifi cape. (I have a
feeling it might involve EEPROM changes?)

I have not been able to find any information in relation to changing the
MAC address with a wifi cape installed, yet alone much information for the
wifi cape itself. Any help, or links to resources would be appreciated.

Thanks

Chuan

If you're using Angstrom, then get the timestamp-service package. It
should preserve the (approximate) clock time across power cycles. The
clock time is saved at shutdown and reloaded at reboot. This doesn't
account for time elapsed between shutdown and reboot, but it's usually much

[beagleboard] SGX Drivers for 3.8.13 Kernel

2014-02-05 Thread Charles Steinkuehler
There is a recent report of working SGX drivers for the 3.8.13 kernel on
the TI forums:

http://e2e.ti.com/support/arm/sitara_arm/f/791/p/298596/1110997.aspx#1110997

I won't have time to test this for several days, but if anyone here
wants to try building a 3.8.13 BeagleBone kernel with GPU drivers,
please give it a shot!

I'm not sure if the reported success was for a BeagleBone kernel or just
a generic 3.8.13 AM335x kernel. If you do try to build a kernel, please
let us all know the results! IIRC, the last time I tried this, I got
stuck on some issues with the patched-up HDMI support added for the
BeagleBone that kept the kernel from building properly.

Hey Robert,

With device tree on the beagle/beagle-xm I've only enabled the i2c
functionality on the expansion bus. I need to also enable spidev..

but looking at page 109:
https://github.com/CircuitCo/BeagleBoard-xM-RevC/blob/master/BeagleBoard-xM_revC_SRM.pdf

For the other pins, what pinmux would you want for your class? (should
we enable the other uart?)

I don't have a BB xM, but which LEDs are you using? If you are trying
to use the on-board LEDs that are assigned to things like CPU load and
SD card access, you can't export the GPIO controlling that LED to user
space because it's already "claimed" by the kernel. If you really want
to drive the on-board LEDs, you need to edit the device tree so the GPIO
is not claimed and the LEDs will disappear from /sys/class/leds/

The article uses a pin from the expansion connector, and from what I can
tell the instructions should work assuming you use the proper GPIO pin
number.

[beagleboard] how to activate LED on BB xM using gpio?

2014-02-05 Thread Robert P. J. Day

in an embedded linux class i was teaching last week, the students
were all using beagle xMs (rev C), and we decided to experiment with
playing with the LEDs from user space.

using the LED files under /sys/class/leds worked fine -- changing
the brightness, trigger and so on. but using this article as a basis:

http://makezine.com/2009/02/03/blinking-leds-with-the-beagle-board/

we simply couldn't control the very same LED via gpio. we followed the
article, tried changing the LED trigger and so on, but nothing worked.

can anyone with a BB xM (Rev C) verify whether or not that article
works for them? let me know which LED you pick, the GPIO pin number
you use, whether you need to change the trigger, etc. i'm sure i'm
missing something trivial, i'd just like to figure out what it is.

p.s. using robert nelson's debian build here:

https://rcn-ee.net/deb/rootfs/wheezy/debian-7.3-console-armhf-2014-01-24.tar.xz

[beagleboard] BBB booting from SD card but with same contents as SD card into eMMC board is not booting. Why?

2014-02-05 Thread Kishor Dhanawade
Hello,
I am using BBB with ubuntu-12.04.3-LTS(3.8.13-kernel). I was
working with micro-SD card. Now I copied both boot and rootfs partition
into eMMc. I checked all the permissions so permission is not issue.
Exactely same copy of SD-card image is in eMMC. Still board is not booting
from eMMC. What can be the issue??? Thank you.

Hi Robert!

I use your scripts to build a kernel. When I built 3.7.x I could see a
number of issues which I never saw in 3.2. If I change to 3.2 branch will
it support DSP and SGX? If yes then how to build support for them? I don't
see respective scripts in the 3.2.x branch
