[beagleboard] BB-RELAY-4PORT overlay

2016-04-24 Thread Peter Lawler

Hi folks,
Having a brain fade moment I think.

I'm interested utilising in the BB-RELAY-4PORT overlay, so I've loaded
it up.

# cat /sys/devices/platform/bone_capemgr/slots
 0: PF -1
 1: PF -1
 2: PF -1
 3: PF -1
 9: P-O-L- 0 Override Board Name,00A0,Override Manuf,BB-RELAY-4PORT

Thing is, I was kind of expecting the GPIO pins to become available
similar if I had "echo PIN_NUMBER > /sys/class/gpio/export"

But that doesn't seem to be the case. There's nothing there.

# ls /sys/class/gpio/
exportgpiochip0 gpiochip32 gpiochip64 gpiochip96 unexport

What (apart from a clue) am I missing? Does the overlay merely configure
the hardware for exclusive use and I still have to initialise via
C/C++/Bash etc. (ie, Linux itself doesn't pick up the hardware config
and do this for me)?

Thanks in advance,

Pete.

2016-04-24 Thread Mala Dies
Hello,

I have tried to use my MotorBridgeCape from the BBG and SeeedStudio.com. I
have been unsuccessful so far. I read some forum at SeeedStudio.com but I
have been unable to understand why something they typed up in 2014 does not
currently work (04/2016).

Now, here are some photographs to better assist in the idea behind why I
cannot get my Cape to work on the BBG. Oh and I had to use WinSCP to change
the file names in the Linux system because when I unzip their .zip file to
update firmware on the MotorBridgeCape, I get loads of errors.

Here goes it:

and...

and...

Now...

With these three images, hopefully someone out there can offer assistance.

Seth

P.S. If you need any other info, please contact me.

There are many reason for a developer to want to use Windows. Whether or
not you, I, or anyone else agrees or not whether those reason are valid(
only for us, as individuals ) is another story.

I actually write my code for Linux in an editor running in Windows. But
that code, stays on, and is compiled on that Linux system. So, you can try
to be all evangelistic and *try* to tell me what I'm doing is wrong. No
matter what you say however would be wrong. Period. Anyway, I've been using
this setup, or one near it for years, and it has worked well for me.

Compared to Linux, Windows may have many problems. But when it comes to the
desktop experience, Linux has a long way to go in order to catch up.

[beagleboard] Audio via HDMI on Debian image 2016-01-24

2016-04-24 Thread Bill Barnett
I am unable to send audio over HDMI to my monitor.

The video is active over HDMI and the volume is turned up.

Results from various commands:

Debian Image 2016-01-24

/sys/devices/platform/bone_capemgr/slots
 0: PF -1
 1: PF -1
 2: PF -1
 3: PF -1
 4: P-O-L- 0 Override Board Name,00A0,Override Manuf,cape-universaln

I have also tried replacing overlay 4 with cape-univ-hdmi with same results.

cat /proc/asound/pcm
00-00: HDMI hdmi-hifi-0 : : playback 1 : capture 1

 aplay -l
  List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices
card 0: Black [TI BeagleBone Black], device 0: HDMI hdmi-hifi-0 []
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

"amixer -c 0" and "amixer -c 0 controls" has no output

"speaker-test -D plughw:0,0 -c2" creates no sound.

Thank you,,,

Bill Barnett

[beagleboard] Re: Play audio throuhg HDMI on BeagleBone Black

2016-04-24 Thread Joe Julian
As far as I can tell, based
on
https://github.com/archlinuxarm/PKGBUILDs/blob/master/core/linux-am33x/PKGBUILD,

the Arch Linux kernel I'm using *should* have all the necessary patches to
make this work with 4.5.2. Unfortunately it's not. aplay -l still shows no
drivers.

@RobertCNelson do you see anything wrong with that patch set that might be
a problem? I'd really prefer to use Arch since the package versions are new
enough to support some of the features I'm trying to implement.

I do, of course, have the correct resolution and I confirmed the edid does
have the audio block.

IIRC this is line Wine but for running commandline Ubuntu on Windows. Any
developer with half a brain wouldn't want to mess with that when it costs
them nothing to run full Linux on the PC. One would really have to be a
diehard Windows fanatic to want to stay caged up in Microsoft code to do
Linux development.

[beagleboard] FBIOPUT_VSCREENINFO invalid argument to ioctl on Linux beaglebone 3.8.13-bone70

2016-04-24 Thread kjeldsen
*Hi guys,*
I've got a Beabglebone black unning *Linux beaglebone 3.8.13-bone70. I'm
trying to implement double buffering using virtual screensize, offsets,
panning and vsync syncronization. However, ioctl calls fail
because FBIOPUT_VSCREENINFO is not a valid argument. The quick test using
fbset: "fbset -vyres 960".*

*As far as i can tell from others with the same issue, on other platforms,
this is due to a limitation in the video driver, which brings me to my
question(s):*

Has anyone else experienced this and is this a "known" issue? Has this been
"fixed" in a later version of the video driver? I also noticed that ioctl
returns -1 on FBIO_WAITFORVSYNC.

Thank you in advance!
Best regards,

Martin

Hi!
I am trying to enable BB-UART1 at boot time in BeagleBone Black but it's
just not happening. Once the BBB is booted I can manually write "echo
BB-UART1 > /sys/devices/bone_capemgr.*/slots" in shell which enables the
ttyO1. When I put this inside /etc/rc.local ttyO1 is not enabled at boot
time contrary to what I expect. Also putting it in crontab with @reboot
doesn't seem to work either. Please help.

I have a beaglebone black that I want to use for multimedia. Is there any

All of the instuctions say to disable the HDMI (audio) via the uEnv.txt

can I use the C-media audio out card without shutting off the HDMI video.

2016-04-24 Thread J dog
Seems microsoft is trying to stay relevant?
Windows 10 is no longer just an operating system for 32 and 64-bit PCs.
In recognizing there are many other OS's out there, Its Microsoft's goal
to allow developers to create Universal apps that will run not only on PCs,
but on Arm based phones and tablets, Windows 10 for IoT devices and Xbox as
well.
A new version of windows Phone will be available and If you know what Windows
RT

 was,
then don't worry, because it's nothing like that, and major changes are
coming.

[beagleboard] What? Linux development on windows... and arm support

2016-04-24 Thread J dog
Interesting report i read:At its last event, Microsoft unveiled the
Anniversary Update for Windows 10, presumably its public name for Redstone
(Phase One?). The update, likely to land in June or July 2016, is replete
with a suite of stylus-optimized apps and tools in Windows Ink, Android
notifications and a full-on Linux development environment built right into
the OS and extended support for ARM processors.

[beagleboard] SD card Image update through Network

2016-04-24 Thread Virendra
Hi,

I have an custom kernel image version 4.1 from Robert Nelson running in SD
card. I have a requirement to update the image with next version of rootfs
automatically through the network keeping the boot loader unchanged. Is
there any link or documentation to upgrade the rootfs over the network.

Thanks for your help.

Veera
