[beagleboard] Active or passive USB hub while having a 2.5 A power supply for BBB
The USB specification says a max of 500mA per USB socket so you can not power a USB hub and all those peripherals from one BBB USB socket. I think USB v3 specs 2A per socket so maybe you can get a USB v3 powered hub and a!so power your BBB from it so you only use one power supply. You may want to check on how much power can be sourced by the power supply shipped with the hub. -- For more options, visit http://beagleboard.org/discuss --- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "BeagleBoard" group. So in case I buy a defective hub I have to cut such a USB cable leading back to BBB and remove +5 V from there? What if I connect such a hub to BBB right away? Can I damage the board? Re: [beagleboard] Active or passive USB hub while having a 2.5 A power supply for BBB
You're going to need a 1A + supply if you use more than just ethernet. So if you're using ethernet, and CANBUS for instance. One thing to note about those powered USB hubs. Sometimes they have power on the USB line going back to the host. This power may have to be "cut" in order for it to work correctly. Some people on these groups have had that issue . . . Re: [beagleboard] Active or passive USB hub while having a 2.5 A power supply for BBB
Thank you for your answer. So as I understand a powerful eg. 2.5 A power supply is essential only when I want to connect a lot of higher current devices straight to BBB GPIO pins? Another question that popped to my mind: I have read here https://groups.google.com/forum/#!msg/beagleboard/ka8Nba41YMY/2_QrS9w-A7sJ that I may need to disconnect the power line coming from the hub. What if the only cable that goes to the board is the USB plug? How do I do it then? [beagleboard] Active or passive USB hub while having a 2.5 A power supply for BBB
Dear Community, I have bought a BBB and now I am going to buy some accesories, eg. USB hub. I am not sure whether I should get a passive or an active one if I have a 5V, 2.5 A power supply. Will BBB power the hub sufficiently (with keyboard, mouse and a TP-LINK wifi dongle)? Or maybe it should be the other way round -> smaller power supply and an active hub? -- For more options, visit http://beagleboard.org/discuss --- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "BeagleBoard" group.
