[beagleboard] Active or passive USB hub while having a 2.5 A power supply for BBB
The USB specification says a max of 500mA per USB socket so you can not power a USB hub and all those peripherals from one BBB USB socket. I think USB v3 specs 2A per socket so maybe you can get a USB v3 powered hub and a!so power your BBB from it so you only use one power supply. So in case I buy a defective hub I have to cut such a USB cable leading back to BBB and remove +5 V from there? What if I connect such a hub to BBB right away? Can I damage the board? You're going to need a 1A + supply if you use more than just ethernet. So if you're using ethernet, and CANBUS for instance. One thing to note about those powered USB hubs. Sometimes they have power on the USB line going back to the host. This power may have to be "cut" in order for it to work correctly. Some people on these groups have had that issue . . .
