So with 2016-01-24, we had been trying to use the 4.1.x-ti-rt, "Real Time"
kernel. This ended up causing lots of usb problems like what you saw.
We've since switched to the non-real-time varient, it's fixed a few of the
usb (ethernet/serial) that people where seeing..

Re: [beagleboard] Cannot boot from MicroSD card containing Debian Jessie

2016-04-13 Thread Nguyễn Hồng Quân
Hi

Update: After trying many times, I can boot the board and SSH to it
successfully.
The tip I learn here is to:

- Disconnect wi-fi connection between before connect the board (I don't
know if this really help, or just coincidence).
- Wait longer after 4 LEDs on. Can be 5 seconds.

[beagleboard] Cannot boot from MicroSD card containing Debian Jessie

2016-04-13 Thread Hồng Quân Nguyễn
Hello

I have an BeagleBone Black with Debian Wheezy preinstalled. I bought an 8GB
microSD card and wrote bone-debian-8.3-lxqt-4gb-armhf-2016-01-24-4gb.img
image to it (with dd). The writing was complete. I mounted it in Ubuntu
laptop to check its content.

Then I plugged the card to BBB to boot it. I'm not sure if it boot
successfully or not, but I cannot make LAN connection with it via USB.

What I did to boot it from MicroSD card:

- Power off the BBB.
- Put card in. Hold down the button on top of it.
- Connect USB with my laptop to provide power.
- Wait until 4 LEDs on at once. Wait more 2 seconds and release the button.

I don't have HDMI cable and monitor to see boot process. I tried to make
Ethernet Connection with it from Ubuntu but failed. Here is what I see from
my laptop syslog

http://pastie.org/10796177

Can you tell me what's wrong and how to fix?

Re: [beagleboard] Cannot boot from microsd

2014-08-05 Thread ivan . deftones13
Are you sure you're following this steps?:

1. Insert SD Card with BBB Powered Off
2. Press and Hold USER/BOOT Button
3. Turn On Beagle Bone
4. When LEDs start flashing (may be after 3 seconds of pushing Power
Button) you should be able to release Boot Button

I have been writting the downloaded images to the SD Cards using
Win32DiskImager

I have downloaded the images and followed official documentation.
I have not used eewiki documentation because I do not understand it.
The boot from external sd does not work at all for me.
I would like now to understand at least on which device can I read the sd
 card.
I see a /dev/mmcblk0 but it seems it is mapped to internal emmc memory.
 Am I wrong?
 Thanks again,
 Mario

 Thanks again,
but I would like to make it clear that pressing the boot button has no
effect for me. It boots always amstrong linux from emmc.
 Why???

Because you don’t have a valid SDCard. Either there is something wrong
with the SDCard you are using (incompatible, old, faulty, etc) or you
haven’t created the SDCard correctly. These are the instructions that work
 best:

documentation it seems that I must boot from an sd to update emmc and so I
 cannot...

When you press the boot button as you power the board the BBB will use
u-boot from the SDCard. You can update u-boot on the eMMC by using a SDCard
with the flash image (replaces everything on the eMMC) or you can boot with
the SDCard, mount the eMMC boot partition and replace the u-boot with a
 simple cp command.

 John
