Where did you get your dog?
We also got our Berner from Edith Williams at Echo Cascade, and Bjorn is the most wonderful addition to our family that we could ever ask for! Not only did Edith give us our first Berner, but also helped us along with very important tips on Berners and puppies in general. We owe a lot to Edith! I would like to thank Edith Williams for trusting us with Cascade Echo's Braveheart (Thor). Thor is by far the greatest 'kid' that my husband and I have. Thank you again Edith for such a wonderful and precious gift. James and Karen Gross Thor (100% Berner) Hailey (lab/terrier mix) Ryan (tabby) Chomper (Main Coon) and the human kids too..

I would like to thank Jackie Smith for trusting us with CH. Onyx Oh'so Special V. Mt. Tops - "Oh'so" 1989 - 2002 and Raime Campbell for trusting us with our girl - CH. Blue Mt. Andi Dasso's Swissmis - "Andi" 1991 - 2002 These were two very different, but equally spectacular, wonderful, loving "kids". They are missed by us daily, but in our hearts and memories forever! RE: where did you get your dog?
I wanted to add a little to this topic. Smokey is my first BMD. His breeder, Rui Rosa, was a very, very kind man who not only trusted me with this wonderful puppy but also trusted me given that I am only 22 and was just starting out. I assured him that I had the money, space, and love for a berner and he was uncertain and interviewed me carefully. To be honest, the extra care he took in meeting me, getting to know me, and making sure I was worthy of getting one of his dogs made me certain that this was a breeder who I wanted to get my dog from. Smokey is the light of my life. When I first joined the list, before I had Smokey I would always think how odd it was all these people calling their dogs their soulmates, children, etc. Don't get me wrong, I grew up with dogs, I LOVE them. They are part of my family and always have been. But the kind of love and connection I have with Smokey is unlike that of any other animal I have ever met (save perhaps my pony when I was a child but that's a story for another day). Smokey is indeed a dog that I am thankful for everyday. The point is that even though it was hard to convince Rui to trust me, it was worth it. And winning that trust I believe was an important part of what got me to Smokey. So for those on the list who are waiting for their puppies, have had a long difficult trip to getting their dogs, or are frustrated with these crazy breeders and their zillions of questions and concerns about your fitness as an owner know this: it was worth it. Shortly after getting Smokey, a friend gave me a little plaque that says "My goal is to be as wonderful as my dog thinks I am". Sometimes I think that is could say as "as my dog's breeder thinks I am". So thanks Rui and to all the breeders out there who work so hard to place their dogs. Radha and Smokey __ Do you Yahoo!? Re: Where did you get your dog?
I have to admit that I find this thread potentially fraught with problems. While I am happy for all of you that were fortunate enough to get dogs from breeders that are conscientious and involved, not all of us have been that fortunate. In fact, some of us have had very different experiences with certain breeders. All relationships - person to person, breeder to buyer, trainer to trainee, stranger to stranger, family members - are different. You may think someone is just fabulous and the best person; I might disagree with that. Its human nature. We aren't all going to get along, but I hope we all do our best. To that end, I won't discuss my dogs' breeders, as I having nothing nice to say about one of them, and, I am certain, she has nothing nice to say about me. Hence, my feelings that this is a problematic thread that could easily turn unpleasant. Karyn Beyer Mt. Shasta, CA [EMAIL PROTECTED]
where did you get your dog?
We got our very first berner from Cathy Burlile, who trusted as newbies to the breed, to purchase a show quality male from her. That was 10 years ago this August. Not quite one year later, she trusted us to take Codi's sister Shelby, who had canine hip dysplasia after she had a TPO, triple pelvic osteotomy. Sometimes, when I'm contacted by people I don't really know looking for show puppies, I think back to the chance given us. Out of 3 litters, I have only sold 2 potential show puppies to other people. For the most part, I sell my puppies as companions because selling pups as potential show is pretty much an iffy propostion. Actually, I'm just a coward when it comes to selling my pups! If I don't know someone, then I pretty much aren't going to sell them a show puppy. While as a breeder I am looking to do my part to improve the breed, what I am looking for above all else is loving homes for my babies. Not that show homes aren't loving homes, they can be just as loving as pet homes, or more so! Cathy, I don't know how you had the courage to sell to us, but I am forever grateful! :) I feel the same way about Bobbie Hefner, who trusted us with a potential show male, our Strykker, Kathy Deyo, who trusted us with a potential show male puppy, our Garth, who ended up being a Versitility Dog, and Margie Reho, who trusted us with Star, our foundation bitch. Without the trust and mentorship of all those breeders, I wouldn't be a breeder today. Our beloved Shelby and Codi are over the Rainbow now, but I will always be grateful that Cathy gave us that first chance as total newcomers to the breed, that started us on our way, and to Ruth Reynolds, Bobbie, Kathy, Margie, too for all their help and trust. Thank you Peggy, I'm sure that Bobbie, Kim, Candy, & April will all agree with me in that we are very proud to have our girl belong to your family where we KNOW she is getting the best of everything, and all the love her little heart can hold! We are very grateful to you, in return, and value your friendship immensely. : ) Go get'um Sierra!! Berner hugs, Mary Jeff & Mary Chapdelaine SnoBear Berners N. Where Did You Get Your Dog
Bobbie, thank you for your wonderful insight into what we (all) should do and say to those that gave us our start in the berner world. Bobbie gave my family and I the most wonderful gifts of all. She gave us Branson & Zorro. And, it comes with a story of heart-break, love, friendship and unselfishness. When Branson passed from MH 3 years ago. I received a phone call about a week after his passong from Bobbie. She said that she had a litter of puppies just about ready to go home and she wanted me to come up and pick my choice. I wasn't sure if I was ready for another berner but thought, Ok I'll *just* go and look... So, with that I went to look. After spending a few hours with Bobbie and the puppies, I came home in tears because this wonderful friend of mine, (Bobbie) wanted no money for this new puppy. All Bobbie wanted was to fill my heart with love and laughter again after my incredible heart-break over losing Branson. Bobbie knew how much we loved this boy of hers, she knew the dog show travels and money spent on Branson, most of all, she knew what Branson gave to our life. Our joy, also brought happiness to Bobbie. Please know that nothing could fill the place in my heart reserved just for Branson, however what Bobbie & new baby Zorro did give us is, the bond of friendship, while always there with Bobbie & I, it only solidified that bond and no matter what it will always be, the gratitude I have for Bobbie is immeasurable With this These friends/breeders know how I feel but to continue with my gratitude I want to thank the following for giving me, my story of: "Where Did You Get Your Dog?" Candy Roper: One of my best-friends. She gave us Durra and our start to this wonderful journey with BMD's.. I'm forever indebted to Candy for who I am and what I do today, it is because of you & Dura that I have laughter in my heart and all these friends to share it with Bobbie Hefner: Also my friend & confidant... For Branson and now, Zorro. The advice, friendship, laughter, pain and tears are and will always be, treasured! Ruben & Kim Gaeta: What can I say? The two of you are simply wonderful... No two friends could be closer than Kim & I... For "Cinder" & "Little Raisin/Wee Raisin"... Jeff & Mary Chapdelaine: Here again, what can I say? No one could EVER fill your shoes It's the bond that Mary & I share, nothing and no one could ever take that away. For "Sierra".. Our pink toed, skunk belly, pretty princess ;-) Look out world cause Sierra's on her way out to steal your hearts. April Rifenburg: For being "surrogate mom" to all my berners.. Branse shines through Nitro. Our friendship is priceless!!! Finally, to all the breeders who give their time without hesitation to us berner owners! We wouldn't have or know this unconditional love without you! Big Berner Hugs To All..
