If your pup does not seem to 'get' the idea of a cool bed, sometimes a thin cotton sheet will help with a more familiar texture. Don't make a big deal out of it, maybe toss some treats on there. I have a couple of these cooling pads and I had a puppy that learned early on that it was cool and would seek it out. The older dogs never seemed to care for it. I think it has to be really hot for them to appreciate the temperature difference. On a word of caution. I did have one of my dogs eat the smaller mat and I had to watch her since the pellets do swell up in the gut. She did get rather large and since the pellets are soft when swollen (rather jelly like) everything did pass. I can see where this could be a problem for young dogs or puppies. I recently bought one of the cool thingies from the Drs Foster and Smith catalog--convinced it would be a wonderful thing that Beaumont would just love love love. It's filled with little pellets and you soak the pad for 20 minutes and the gel pellets absorb the water and keep it cool for like 5 days. I put it in his crate and try to encourage him to sit on it (like upstairs, where he cannot lay on the A/C grates because they are in the ceiling)... and he seems to really hate it. It's really nice and cool just like advertised, but he doesn't like it at all. Just thought I'd mention it, in case someone was thinking of buying one--or in case someone has suggestions for making it more "interesting" to him! jenn with 16 week old Beaumont in SE Va

our first canine cooler, bought a little over two years ago, came without instructions (which you wouldn't think are that necessary, i mean you just put water in it, right?) - it quickly sprung leaks that we duct taped closed. then baka, who was still teething on those last molars, chewed off the cap. so that one was dead. i'd heard such good things about the canine coolers though, that i had to try another. this one, just purchased a year ago, is much more study. it came with instructions on how to fill it, maintain it & make sure i don't have air trapped in it that can help create leaks. so far its working well & hasn't leaked at all, nor been chewed on this time. baka's cooling down from her nightly walk on it right now. so, we like ours very much. laura & baka chapel hill, nc

We have the extra large size for my big boy Porter. He LOVES it! He drags it around the house with him!! With the heat finally settling in, and my first full summer with my beautiful boy, am wondering if anyone can offer some tips on keeping him cool. I was looking into something called the "Canine Cooler" and was wondering if anyone had tried it? Thanks! Beth & Bernie New Jersey
