[Bes-admins] Syncing Personal Home Account (contacts, calendar etc) to my corporate BB

2009-08-17 Thread Eggan, Mark
Hello All,

So an exec asked this of me. He would like to have both home Outlook
items and Work Outlook items on his phone.

- BlackBerry is owned by him.

- Wants his personal email, calendar and contacts to appear on
phone.

- Also wants his work stuff as well.

I've recommended Google Sync, however told him to hold off on this as
I've never personally used this with my gmail account. So my question
is this (two-fold):

Have you used Google Sync to do what is outlined above? Anything to
know about prior to recommending it?

Do you know of a third-party software which will accomplish this that
works better than that of Google Sync?

Thanks in advance...

Google Sync will combine the address books as well.
And Google Sync for calendar... nightmare.
Avoid it, for now at least.

Re: [Bes-admins] Syncing Personal Home Account (contacts, calendar etc) to my corporate BB

2009-08-17 Thread Todd R. Martin
Why don't you create another mapi profile for him, and have him choose which
one he wants upon logging in.

I have my president do that, and do that with 2 different domain email
addresses and it works just fine.

Or whatever his home email is to just pop it to the phone?

Either way should work without hitch. The mapi solution will allow you to have
separate in boxes/calendars/contacts/todo list etc.

I am writing this from a BlackBerry that I use Google Sync on and it runs just
fine. If you do a battery pull though, you need to make sure to start the
application otherwise it will not sync. The BlackBerry is running on BIS

Re: [Bes-admins] Syncing Personal Home Account (contacts, calendar etc) to my corporate BB

2009-08-17 Thread Eggan, Mark
So create a MAPI profile on his phone then he can choose which profile
he wants to view? Seems easy enough. Just to make certain that I
understand this, he will use DM at home to sync to profile #2 (calling
it 'HOME' or something. Primary MAPI profile will be entitled 'WORK'?
Something like that? Is there a doc that I can forward him on setting
this up to his home PC? We don't generally support this level, but I'm
in an extra nice mood today and I have a review coming up ;)

Thanks!

2009-08-17 Thread Chris Burwell
Google sync on my Bold will not sync my calendar because I am hooked
to a BES. The contact sync works well.

[Bes-admins] Need Help Sizing a BES 4.1.6 Server

2009-08-17 Thread Moller, Doreen
I am building a new 4.1.6 BES server for an Exchange 2003 environment.
The database will be placed on a SQL server 2005 farm and will not be
local to the machine. Can anyone give me a rule of thumb on how to size
the partitions. Will I need a separate data volume for log files or will
all of those be on the SQL farm. I am trying to size the server for
about 400 European users. Thanks!

Re: [Bes-admins] Need Help Sizing a BES 4.1.6 Server

2009-08-17 Thread Todd R. Martin
If your taking about this BES size itself its footprint is rather small - and
actually should be the same whether you have 1 or 10,000 users. It just parses
information stored in SQL and Exchange. I think my BES including OS and updates
is 11gb, and my vm partition is dynamically expanding - but hasn't in years. I
don't know as far as SQL goes - I think its around 45 gb now - but that is also
in a different local VM blade environment with iSCSI SAN storage.

Are you talking about sizing BES partitions or those required on SQL?

I am building a new 4.1.6 BES server for an Exchange 2003 environment.
The database will be placed on a SQL server 2005 farm and will not be
local to the machine. Can anyone give me a rule of thumb on how to size
the partitions. Will I need a separate data volume for log files or will
all of those be on the SQL farm. I am trying to size the server for
about 400 European users. Thanks!

Re: [Bes-admins] Syncing Personal Home Account (contacts, calendar etc) to my corporate BB

2009-08-17 Thread Alex Wilshaw
I use Google Sync religiously. However, I am not hooked to a BES.

Contact sync works well, and I've yet to encounter any issues with it.

Calendar sync works properly about 99% of the time. The other 1%, something
happens on the Outlook end where Sync gets a little confused about an event
arbitrarily. Once in a while, every time the computer syncs from the
Outlook end, it will delete the event and recreate it in the calendar.
Soon, you have thousands of deleted events cluttering up the Deleted Items
folder if you don't catch it or rarely empty that folder. Be careful of
that. Otherwise, keep in mind that when set to Automatic, the phone will
only sync every two hours or when a new event is created or modified on the
phone.

The only truly terrible Calendar-modifying application on BlackBerry is
Facebook. That application tends to wreak havoc in my calendar causing me
to rebuild my calendar by resetting Google Sync. I'm not sure what is going
on with their implementation of the calendar, but that works about 50% of
the time properly. But that's off topic. :)

Thanks,

No. I have a WLAN Profiles setup on the BlackBerry 8820. They connect fine,

The other question is why the device isn't able to connect to the BES via the

No. I have a WLAN Profiles setup on the BlackBerry 8820. They
connect fine, until the host routing table information is lost.
The other question is why the device isn't able to connect to the
BES via the BlackBerry network over other Wi-Fi access point/hotspot.

Are you attempting to connect by scanning a WLAN?

Thanks!

Subject: [Bes-admins] BlackBerry Wi-Fi only provisioning

Hi,

Does anyone have experience with setting up BlackBerry on BES with
Wi-Fi only access? (e.g. no dependency on AT&T or Verizon)
I was able to get a device provisioned this way, but the device
would loose the Host Routing Table required to make the connection
to the BlackBerry network. Thanks

Add the plan then remove or load the books manually from crackberry. Also make
sure that you set data to wifi only and browser to hotspot. You can use the
browser with no Sim at all.
