[SlimDevices: Beta] slimserver 6.5 stops ???

2006-06-01 Thread rick's cafe

I recently u[pgraded from 6.2.2 to the May 21 nightly 6.5b .. running
firmware 48

running win xp and Belkini router

for some odd reason I have noticed that Slim Server stops running after
playing music... I am not certain what is causing it and it appears that
when playing music after about 20 mins or so the SB3 locks up (cannot
power on or off) and when I check the server i see that SS has
stopped.. I never had this issue on 6.2.1 or 6.2.2 ..

has anyone experienced this type of behavour before and what do you
recommend I do to fix the problem

Thanks

Just an idea: do a factory reset. This often helps with that kind of
problem after firmware upgrades.

[SlimDevices: Beta] Re: slimserver 6.5 stops ???

2006-06-01 Thread rick's cafe

thanks michael.. i will try that when I get home from work to see if it
works ... however the problem seems to be more on the Slimserver end..
not the SB3 (although I could be wrong on that) .. in so far as I want
to figure out why Slimserver on the PC actually stops running...
generally I leave my server on 24/7 with slimserver as the opnly app
running... never had this issue before so am just wondering what may be
the cause of it suddenly stopping... did not think that would be a
firmware issue .. but will try the factory reset for sure

thanks

BTW - main reason for upgrading to 6.5 was so I can use your 770 skin
as a remote on my PSP .. which is great

[SlimDevices: Beta] independent firmware upgrade

2006-06-01 Thread windowshade

Please refer to the recent dialogue regarding 'bug 1434'
(http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1434#c34). A fix of this
bug would certainly continue the "'tradition of excellent FLAC support'
(http://flac.sourceforge.net/index.html#status)" we've all come to
expect!

> > Damnit, we need a means of upgrading firmware independent of
> SlimServer.

There's a firmware folder included in the ZIP and TAR.GZ nightly
downloads (SlimServer for Windows/server/Firmware). I just pasted it
into my corresponding folder (Program Files/SlimServer/server/Firmware,
i.e.) and restarted the Slimserver service... hey, independent firmware
upgrade. (Yes, I backed the old one up, too. :)) It's working okay
right now, although I have my doubts about backward compatibility here.

Windows users who are interested in FLAC playback might try this in
order to test Firmware 52 when it is released. (JJZolx, we are looking
in your direction...)

Comments?

SlimServer Version: 6.5b1 - 7474 - Windows XP - EN - cp1252

[SlimDevices: Beta] 6.3 @INC startup problem

2006-06-01 Thread wr420

Hi
This was posted in the linux/unix forum but may belong here.

http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24089

It seems to effect a 6.3 installation after some event. In my case it
was clicking on a particular music folder under browse music.

I have the post by wr420 towards the end but all the post in there seem
to describe a similar problem. If you need more details please let me
know.

You can always monkey-rig a way to upgrade or downgrade the firmware
version by placing a particular version in the firmware folder of your
server and editing the squeezebox2.version file.

The point I was making is something I've long lobbied for: I think the
firmware releases can and should be independent of SlimServer releases,
just as they are with any of a million other products. I guess the
reason for tying them so closely together is that SlimProto must still
be a work in progress - which is kind of scary in and of itself.

Well, at least this way there's more than a chance. ;)

[SlimDevices: Beta] Re: independent firmware upgrade

2006-06-01 Thread funkstar

I'm sure Sean has said in the past that the reason for keeping the
firmware and server versions in sync is because they do not have the
facilities or the resources to do regression testing with each server
and firmware version.

Why is SlimProto being a work in progress worrying? If it was cast in
stone then i'm sure there would be future feature upgrades that would
become impossible. The whole SlimDevices platform is a work in
progress.
