Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Is ARTISTSORT/flac working for anyone?

2008-02-11 Thread stephenkca

I've done some additional experimenting, and I am getting the most
dreaded behaviour-inconsistent results.

I went back to Betty Carter, checked the flac files again, saw that one
was missing ARTISTSORT, added it, did a Look for New re-scan. She was
listed under C :). Then I did a bit of other fiddling around, ripped
and added a new disk, did a Clear Library re-scan and she was listed
under B again :(. The new disk (artist Andrew Parrott-The Taverner
Players) was listed under A. Then I had a look at my Keith Jarrett
collection. I carefully edited out the (non-standard) REM ARTISTSORT
tags from all the cuesheets (just in case they confused processing),
made absolutely sure that all flac files contain an ARTISTSORT tag, and
did a Clear Library re-scan. He is still listed under K. The best I
can tell now from a quick look all ARTISTSORT tags are being ignored.

What is the best way to proceed? I would prefer to be more specific in
a bug report than ARTISTSORT handling seems to be flakey on my system
and mostly doesn't work. I don't see the screen with logging
checkboxes that was in 6.5.x, nor do I know what logging should be
turned on if I find my way there. Assistance would be appreciated.

Oh, sorry - by anon I meant the local system user.
Glad you asked.

I have this same problem when the service runs as me - a member of the
administrators group.

I'm not sure there's any way I can run as that local system user in
order to test create/modify access. I'd thought that I could schedule a
job and it would default to that, but I guess I'm either misremembering
or remembering from the wrong version of windows. Sigh.

Is SC (or MySql) using %temp% to figure out where to create a temporary
file? I could just change -that-...

[SlimDevices: Beta] Scanning Music Problem

2008-02-11 Thread Kane

After trying to test Softsqueeze 7.0, the music database seemed to stop
working. This problem persisted, even after I downgraded to 6.5.x (4 or
5). I would even attempt to manually scan the music (so I could capture
the error log) with the command

Code:

./scanner.pl --cleanup --rescan --wipe --itunes --progress --d_info
--d_import --d_itunes --d_server --d_parse --d_scan
/Volumes/Users/myAccountName/Music/iTunes/iTunes\ Music

The errors received were of the form:

Code:

ERROR: Scanner: Failed when running main scan: [Can't use an undefined value
as a HASH reference at
/Library/PreferencePanes/SlimServer.prefPane/Contents/server/CPAN/DBIx/Class/ResultSource.pm
 line 200

or

Code:

Slim::Schema::forceCommit (1363) Warning: Trying to commit transactions
before DB is initialized!

After much trial and error the fix seemed to be deleting the Cache
files for the database then doing a new scan from scratch (clearing out
the database).

The location of the database and cache files for you system can be
found here:
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?SlimServerDatabaseFile

Hope this helps others as I've seen this problem eluded to, but not
solved in various areas of the forum.

2008-02-11 Thread Michael Herger
So... is there anything else I can check to make sure you aren't going
 to unnecessary trouble?

 From the bug report:

Very likely not a bug, but unlucky configuration: What's that anon user? If
this is a user of yours, does it have write permission to the temp folder? By
default users can't write inside the Windows folder, can they? I don't remember
the details in w2k, but either giving that user write permission to Windows and
Windows\Temp, or moving the temp folder to c:\temp should imho fix this issue.

Would SC run if you made it run _without_ setting a user, thus running it under
the default SYSTEM user?

There's still the problem I described with truncated filenames showing

OK, I mucked around for a while and narrowed down the problem a little

When browsing folders on the web interface,
*Slim::Web::Pages::BrowseTree* gets the text to display using

The result from *pathFromFileURL* is UTF-8 encoded, in this case.
 *fileName* finally uses *Slim::Utils::Unicode::utf8decode_locale* to
convert the string to UTF-8, if it is not already so. The code is:

 Code:

 sub utf8decode_locale {
   my $string = shift;
   if ($string  $]  5.007  !Encode::is_utf8($string)) {
   $string = Encode::decode($lc_ctype, $string, $FB_QUIET);
   }
   return $string;
   }

Because I'm such a n00b, I'm not sure what is happening here. I think
maybe the string is UTF-8 encoded, but not UTF-8 flagged, so
*Encode::is_utf8* returns false, then *Encode::decode* is used to try
to convert the string from the current locale (iso-8859-1) to UTF-8,
even though it is already UTF-8. The string returned by
*utf8decode_locale* is truncated at the position of the first accented
character. In my example, 15 - Björk - It's in Our Hands.mp3 gets
 converted to 15 - Bj.

The problem is not limited to the web interface, as in this example.
The same thing happens on the Squeezebox.

Does this help? Even if my interpretation is completely wrong,
hopefully this will help shed some light on the problem.

 Currently running SqueezeCenter Version: 7.0 - 17379 - Red Hat - EN -

[SlimDevices: Beta] Playlist editing

2008-02-11 Thread pippin

OK, here's another thing I missed: playlist editing has been changed
with recent builds and follows a different logic.

Now my playlist editor in iPeng does not work anymore (edit_playlist
doesn't seem to be a valid SC page anymore) so how am I supposed to
implement this now? Write completely new PL management or is there any
other option?

How do the default skins now handle this?

 don't get nightly builds.
SVN is the only way you're going to get daily differences, I don't
think they include subversion change lists in the deb package.

I went to 7.0.1 simply because when I chose 7.0 in testing, the
server's behavior reverted back to some annoying errors: gibberish in
the playlist, albums failing to sort correctly, and genres failing to
sort. Now, I didn't do anything special to clear S-server dpkg-wise, I
just did easy stuff in dselect.

I don't mind looking on SVN to see what changes are new and done, I
just don't know where to look!

[SlimDevices: Beta] Is there some easy way to see changes in daily builds?

2008-02-11 Thread millia

I admit I'm not a SVN/programmer kind of guy, and I gave up after 10
minutes of digging on the SVN server.

I'm currently on deb unstable, but holding with what I have, unless
there seems to be something newly fixed that seems apropos.

(Plus, you know, it just works right now, so...)

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Jumping inside currently playing file (trouble with FLAC's)

2008-02-11 Thread iPhone

Yulquen;267804 Wrote:
Just downloaded and installed SC7 on my work pc to
do some testing, before installing it on my fileserver.
I use Softsqueeze 6.5 installed at my work pc as playback device.

I have noticed in this and previous releases that when clicking
inside the progress bar to jump forwards or backwards in the
sound file currently playing, this only works with my mp3's and not my
 FLAC's.

If I try to jump inside a FLAC track, playback simply stops,
and I have to press play in either squeeze-center or softsqueeze
to get it going again (then starts from the beginning of
 file of course).

I have not tried other formats, as my library contains only
 FLAC's and mp3's.

I think its a really cool feature to be able to skip forwards/
backwards in a track, like standard software players.

Especially when accessing my collection from outside,
from work and at friends and such.

Have anyone got this working with FLAC's at all?

Thanks in advance for any answers.

How are your settings set for handling specific file types?
Native or Transcoded?
From the Slim Devives WIKI:
In the Slimserver/Squeezebox world, this can be an important
difference. The various models of Squeezebox can handle different file
types internally, so given (for example) an MP3 file can decode it into
music within the box. Other file types can't be handled within the
Squeezebox and are transcoded, i.e. decoded in the Slimserver into
another format that the Squeezebox does know how to handle (see also:
Transcoding). SB2/3 natively handles MP3, WAV, AIFF, FLAC and WMA
(except WMA Lossless): earlier models just MP3. See HardwareComparison.

Another significant difference for a Squeezebox is that you can
fast-forward or rewind with a format that can be played natively, but
not one that is being transcoded.

So, if you are transcoding files on your PC, then NO, you can not FF or
Rewind a FLAC file. You have to play them Native on the SB3 to use this
feature with FLAC files.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] SqueezeNetwork Beta

2008-02-11 Thread tamanaco

SHOUTcast is working... the SB3 is no longer hanging when SHOUTcast is
selected.

The Web interface of betaSN for the Favorites still not working
properly with more than 10 favorites.

To clarify, the issue with the order of the Favorites is in the SB3 not
in betaSN Web interface. When connected to betaSN I have 29 Favorites
listed in the SB3, but the first favorite added is still identified
as Favorite 2 and the last as Favorite 30. On the top right of the SB3
it reads the favorites correctly in order. 1 of 29 up to 29 of 29. The
betaSN web interface for the favorite has 3 pages of favorites listed
in order. Page 1 with ten favorites, page 2 with ten favorites and page
3 with nine favorites

Btw, on the Web Interface of SC7 I just noticed a Tune URL option...
is this a new feature that was added recently or was I not paying
attention?

different places.

 Did SC run before?
Never had this problem with 6.x versions, up through 6.5.

I meant: have you been able to access SC7 before trying to shut it down?
If it wasn't running, then it can't be shut down :-).

Disabled Symantec firewall; no effect. SC is running; I can exit SC; I
just can't stop it. It continues running.

can you telnet localhost 9090 from the command line, and get a clean,
black rectangle?

If you have subversion installed on your debian system (apt-get install
subversion if not) then just type the following command to see the log
output:

Code:

  % svn log -r17127:17388 http://svn.slimdevices.com/repos/slim/

using the appropriate version numbers. The output log is fairly self
evident. Or use kdesvn if you want a gui.

[PS: Hey slim guys, what are those empty version number changes all
through the repo?]
