Question: Which Transporter firmware should be default in 7.1?

- Firmware 37 (stable, no new features)
- Firmware 40 (unstable, new features)

Hi,

i have no problems* and never had any with FW40. So i've voted to keep
it the default. But as long as this version is available without to
much fiddling (editing transporter.version is no problem for me) my
vote is not really strong...

kind regards,
Markus

*just to make it clear: the way i use the transporter

[SlimDevices: Beta] Which Transporter firmware should be default in 7.1?

2008-04-30 Thread andyg

Question: Which Transporter firmware should be default in 7.1?

- Firmware 37 (stable, no new features)
- Firmware 40 (unstable, new features)

We currently include both firmware 37 and 40 in 7.1, but 40 is set as
the default. Since 40 contains a number of bugs, perhaps we should
make the default 37, and force anyone who wants to test the new
features in 40 make changes to the transporter.version file.

Note this only applies to the 7.1 nightly builds, we'll sort this out
for real by release time. :)

Because some people wanted to use the features in 40.

Perhaps these people need to be the ones who have to go to the extra
effort of changing the version file. Maybe I'll start a poll. :)

Agreed, but I think the question of why FW40 is still in 7.1 is valid.
It's never going to be released, so why not pull it now until its
replacement is ready for testing. It's certainly a barrier to people
testing 7.1 properly and generates a large volume of posts from
confused people. I now that a few find FW40 useful, but they

leave both .bins in the repository, but to default transporter.version
to 37 rather than 40?

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] SC7 trouble with Leopard 10.5.1

2008-04-30 Thread Sune

Hi again,

Followed the instructions on page 3 in this thread:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=45486&highlight=mouth&page=3

BUT I just moved my "SqueeseCenter" folder found in "application
support" instead of deleting it.

Then I

* downloaded the latest official release, got it installed, verified
that the server started as expected.
* Stopped it and updated it to latest nightly release and verified that
the server started as expected.
* Stopped it, replaced the new "SqueezeCenter" folder in Application
Support with the original one
* Restarted the server - NO SUCCES!
* Restarted the server again - SUCCES! Now all plugins and prefs seems
to back to what they were before

I did not reboot my Mac during the process.

Conclusion: It's probably the Cache giving Mac-users a headache.
Possible cause: Inproper shutdown of Mac (e.g. Power Failure)
Possible solution: Having a script that trashes the SqueezeCenter cache
at startup

Will now start checking up that everything works..AND add my
SqueezeCenter folder to my backup list :-)

Hope for a permanent fix for this problem soon.

/Sune

Nope :-(

And I cannot even re-apply the combo-update => my box is DEAD, and I
had so much hoped to show it off to my foreign friends during the
weekend. Guess I'll have to go through the basic cleaning of the
current installation. Hope I won't loose too much - I've spent hours
making it work like a charm - *sigh*.

My wife is now back to hating the thing and insisting on us getting an
AirPort Express instead.

Wonder what goes wrong...

I'm a bit stuck with this 7.1/Transporter firmware 40 bit too. I'd like
to try 7.1 but firmware 40 turns my Transporter into a mute too.

I guess I could try editing the transporter.version file... but I just
can't be fussed.

I, like Sean, have other things to do.

Firmware 40 came out a full two months ago, with immediate reports of
problems, but there's been no follow up beta firmware to date.
Apparently Sean is doing the firmware, but he's stated that he's busy
with other things.

Jim,

Please engage your brain before typing.

fw40 was an early release for testing, ie. to find problems. Well fancy
that - problems were found, so it won't be officially released. Ever
notice that Squeezebox firmware releases aren't always consecutive?
That's because some versions are not officially released. Transporter
firmware development is continuing and a new version will be released in
due course.

Wwould you care to tell us on what basis you arrived at the conclusion
expressed in your statement above?

You can edit the transporter.version file to tell it which fw to use,
then just find the right .bin and put it in the firmware dir.

It's happened again. Is it possible it's something in the build order

It's been pretty terrible for me. I frequently have to resort to
xilinx reprogramming in order to get my transporter to produce sound
and/or in order to get the knob working again.

Actually, enough is enough - can I force it to not use fw40? I need to
run the 7.1+ branches in order to test and develop and am normally happy
to take the rough with the smooth, but I'm fed up of not being able to
rely on my transporter!

I have the exact same problem with my Logitech Duet player. I have tried
different versions of the Squeezecenter 7.0 and 7.0.1. I have traced the
message log within the Duet controller and also tried to
debug the server without getting closer to the problem. The server
seems to crash with segmentation fault as soon as you start playing
your playlist. I'm currently running Squeezecenter on my Openfiler
v.2.2 NAS/SAN box, Linux kernel 2.6.19.7 and perl 5.8.7. I have logged
this case at Logitech Support but haven't got to many tips on how to
proceed with this issue.
