[SlimDevices: Beta] Controller firmware updates at 330am

2008-11-17 Thread SoftPhill

Dont know if this is an issue for anyone but me as i keep my XP PC
running 7.3 in my bedroom but i am having an issue with the controller
updates.

Basically the PC wakes up and then goes to sleep every 10 mins until i,
either, walk round the house updating controllers, or i turn the PC
off.

Not an issue in the day but quite annoying at 330 am UK time(when it
seems to happen)

Is this something others have experienced. I understand this is a
neccessary part of beta software but is there a way of stopping the
controller doing this behaviour?

This is very disappointing. I went to a lot of trouble to prevent
exactly this type of scenario. player.source=info and player.sync=info
logs should be sufficient to diagnose the problem, if you can recreate
it.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Playlist Mode - Party Mode

2008-11-17 Thread dean

I convinced Ben to add the dynamic playlist mode (not the party mode,
that was his awesome idea) based on the long standing frustration that
folks have when they accidentally hit the PLAY button when creating a
playlist and lose all their hard work.

The concept was simple: modify the behavior of the PLAY button when
Squeezebox thinks you are creating a playlist.

Here's what I proposed:

1. The ADD button continues to do exactly what it's done all along
plus...

2. The first time you press the ADD button, the behavior of the PLAY
button is modified to...

3. do an add-next (i.e. add the selected item to the playlist so as it
will be played immediately after the currently playing song), and not
clear the playlist and...

4. stay in this new mode until the user turns off the device, clears
the playlist, saves the playlist or explicitly turns off the mode (from
the settings or with the press-hold of the ADD button as a shortcut)

The behavior that Philip Meyer saw that caused the ADD button to be
different was not as designed.

I'd like to get more feedback on this once we get it working reliably.

I agree it's not ready to be turned on by default as it stands now, but
as I like to say, it's "good enough to complain about".

Thanks for your patience and feedback...

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Total Freeze With r3354

2008-11-17 Thread Mnyb

Now It goes a little further, I get stuck when pressing play.
I have to press left arrow a long time, to get to home meny.

Controlling other players works ok.

Trying to choose "controller" as player results in an forever spinning
circle with the text "connecting to controller" controller player is
not visible in SC either.

Reboot of SBC fixes it, as usual.

Good try a small step..

2008-11-17 Thread kdf
There was a checkin at r3385 on the jive-checkins list that mentioned
deviceid, which is critical to the connection in slimproto.

I'd expect that has at least some small influence on this problem, and
thus fixed when the next jive build comes along.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Careful SC 7.3-23940 and SBC r3384.....

2008-11-17 Thread Mnyb

My version of r3384 is acting really weird.

1. I could not choose the controller in choose player, when trying to
do so I see the spinning circle forever. It was visible there, but with
the old icon

2. Fixed that by untick and tick BETA audio playback, but then the next
hurdle, it
could not connect the "controller player" to squeezecenter ? duh,
controller could well control my other players with out problem.

3 did a restart after 2. then it starts to work again ? weird

I still have the "Audio Playback" option under advanced, that howard
seem to miss. and it is still working so i keep r3384 for now

I attach log if that helps.

Mine was the same as yours. I probably misled you. It was only the
playback on the SBC that was not working. All fixed now, though.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Careful SC 7.3-23940 and SBC r3384.....

2008-11-17 Thread Howard Passman

For me this is ugly, but for some of you, it's probably not an issue.

Dropped SC back to the previous version.

Then I ssh'd in to the SBC and put the r3354 in to the
mnt/mmc/jive.bin
Then restarted the SBC as per the instructions here for ssh
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/SqueezeOS_Upgrades#Firmware_Update_with_SD_Card

Then after the SBC loaded the old firmware and rebooted it asks to
upgrade to r3384 again. When it asks, go to your PC and go in to
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\SqueezeCenter\Cache and delete the r3384.bin file. Your SBC will
now quit asking for you to update to the r3384 and your controller
should now work as a player again.

Hope this helps. BTW, you can use a SD card to do this also, but you
still have to go in to the cache file and kill the bad firmware.

I can still play everything on my receiver after choosing it... just
playback on the controller seems completely hosed. Can't even play the
test tones. Can't choose a proper music source until I re-select the
receiver.

It's funny, the last three or so updates have reduced controller
playback functionality. At one time I could stream SIRIUS tunes to the
controller...

I'll just wait and play with each new version, I enjoy seeing the
evolution of the product, hiccups and all. I'm sure all the bugs will
be worked out eventually, although I may start saving the more stable
verions of the firmware :)

Sorry to hear you're having such trouble with your setup.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Pause / Unpause

2008-11-17 Thread Craig

Since posting the message I've realised that it was only happening on
the player in my study so I looked to see what was set different from
all the other players. The problem appears to have been having
'Screensaver when stopped' set as Date & Time screensaver. The date and
time saver however was not showing through MusicInfo which is my
'Screensaver when Playing' but was presumably intercepting the play
command.

Changing 'Screensaver when stopped' to MusicInfo has solved the
problem.

I've tried a factory reset, I've tried holding the up speaker button

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Internet Radio menu

2008-11-17 Thread ModelCitizen

I think it'd be very useful if users could decide their own menu
arrangement. The menu arrangement is never going to suit everyone and
the more that Logitech cater to new users and accommodate their
preferred service providers the more likely other types of users are to
find that the layout does not suit them.

The obvious answer is to enable users to arrange their own menus. For
the web interface this could be accommodated by a simple drag and drop,
creation/deletion folder/item system.

There is an open bug for the players and controller menu (but it does
not include the web interface, perhaps it should). Unfortunately the
item has been classed as a quite disappointing "enhancement" (i.e. it's
very unlikely to be implemented).

http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=9358

I'm quite frustrated by the current arrangement of the menus (let alone
the beta arrangement, which looks a lot worse). Last.fm is the only
Music Service that works for me. The only other ones I'm interested in
are not available in the UK. Hence, on the web interface I have *only*
Last.fm in the Music Services folder. On the Controller I have deleted
the Music Services menu item and put Last.fm on the top level.

However, for all UIs the obvious solution is to stick Last.fm int the
Internet Radio folder. This would be the neatest and most logical
answer, but this is not possible with any of the UIs as things stand at
the moment.

So what steps are you taking? I tried rolling back SC and the firmware

Using Windows Restore didn't and I didn't thinkit would, but it was the

Did not work at all for me. The home screen now only has "Now Playing"

If you go to "Music Source" you can't connect to any server.

I'm gonna roll back on the SBC firmware and see how it goes...

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] 7.3 Sync bug?

2008-11-17 Thread Phil Meyer
I have noticed a change in behaviour too with syncing under SC7.3.

I have two players synced - a Transporter and a Boom. I have sync settings set
to persist from power off.

Sometimes both players are both playing the music in sync, but the Boom is
displaying the power-off date/time screensaver. No button presses seem to wake
it out of the date/time screensaver.

I'm not sure how I get into this state - I've tried various things, but failed
to nail down when it occurs. I've seen it in this state a few times now though.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Problems with SB1 and 7.3

2008-11-17 Thread Craig

Here's the log as requested.

I started playback around 16:22 on the SB1 00:04:20:05:70:22
It played ok until the end of track 5 at 16:35 when I had to skip
forward onto track 6.
It then played ok until the end of track 6 at 16:40 when I had to skip
forward onto track 7.

After that I stopped playback and played the whole album fine on my TP
00:04:20:10:01:54.

The obvious thing that springs to my mind is that the flacs need
transcoding for the SB1 but not for any of the newer players.

Hope this helps

SqueezeCenter doesn't need any more tricky overloaded button functions.
The default should be to offer this, clearly labeled, in the usual
settings locations in the normal UIs. If you want to tell power users
how they can tweak the button mappings, fine. But please don't make the
remote control behavior more complex!

I think both variants are possible (I've sox version 4.1 here), but
it's important that --rate is not passed as format option (fopts) of
the source file (as in your first post, this would result in playback
in half speed).

if "RESAMPLE=--rate=%d" or "RESAMPLE=-r %d" then this should work:
[sox] -t wav - -t flac $RESAMPLE$ -

if "RESAMPLE=rate %d" then the effects option of sox is been used, and
this has to be passed as last parameter:
[sox] -t wav - -t flac - $RESAMPLE$

Though i don't know (yet) how those two resample options (the "builtin"
with --rate" or the effects version) differ...

kind regards,
Markus

There will be no change in current UI behavior when playlist mode is

In the current (7.2.1) controller UI, holding the add button (+) zaps
the current playlist entry, moving it to the zapped playlist.

I depend on this. Is it going to be maintained, at least in playlist
mode disabled.

In other modes, will zap be available, since it appears that add-hold
has be preempted for other uses.

And, for me, pressing play on a folder (or album - but I navigate by
folders) must continue to mean replace the current playlist with the
folder contents.

That would be a very smart move IMO, the more i think about it the more
i think is pretty strange. What was the idea behind it anyway?

Currently there is no way of keeping it on through a power off/power on

I'm going to suggest that we remove the dynamic invocation of playlist

Completely agree with Philip Meyer here.

This is going to cause such HUGE confusion for Joe Public (or Jo Bloggs
if he British ;)), i strongly believe to is must be disabled by default.
I can't see why anyone would want it invoked automatically, it should
just be a settings option.

To be completely honest, i'm finding this all very confusing myself.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Playlist Mode - Party Mode

2008-11-17 Thread Phil Meyer
>Playlist mode, not party mode, can be invoked dynamically via the add
>button, but not when it's disabled.
>
There's not much difference between the two modes, but what I meant was that
the normal behaviour is lost when someone presses add.

The wiki says:
Invoking Playlist Mode
Playlist mode is entered whenever the user hits the ADD (+) key on a
playable item.
It can also be invoked by going into Settings->Advanced->Playlist Mode
and toggling Playlist Mode to on.

I can't see how overloading the add button with a side-effect helps to solve
the original enhancement request. Guests will not know that they have to add a
track to the end of a playlist in order to enter playlist mode, and if you want
party mode, you still have to use the settings to invoke it. What's the
benefit of changing mode on the use of the add button?

It is also possible to turn back to normal mode by press-and-hold Add, which
usually adds songs after the currently playing track. So, in a party if
someone wanted to add a track to play next, this would turn off party mode, and
the next time something is played it would wipe the playlist.

Okay.

Maybe it is okay to leave as core functionality then.

37! Maybe they all went to the same party :-)

I've no doubt some people really want a party mode (not sure three modes
normal/playlist/party are required though). My main concern was the use of Add
to change the mode.

[SlimDevices: Beta] Windows Live Skydrive

2008-11-17 Thread xprezz

First of all sorry if this is the wrong place to post, but cannot really
find a place for suggestions.

For those of you that dont know it, windows live skydrive is a free
online drive for those with a windows live account. It has just been
upgraded to 25GB. Basically it functions like an on-line harddisk. So
my suggestion is integration into squeeze so mp3's hosted on ones
skydrive could be streamed directly to a squeezebox. Now I am aware
that this sort of functionality already is available through mp3 tunes,
but mp3 tunes is horrible in europe due to no mirror outside US.

So would it be possible to write a plugin for windows live skydrive and
is anyone up for the challenge?
