Of course I was always having trouble explaining to everyone to hit the
"+" key in the past so I'm thinking that I'll still be having trouble
explaining it in the future. The normal reaction is to hit play and
the expected result is to add to the end (like a jukebox). At least,
in my opinion.

Agree that this is a great improvement and really thank everyone for it
too.

[SlimDevices: Beta] SqueezePlay & Password Protection

2008-12-02 Thread elziko

I have now upgraded to SC v7.3 since I'm having a party this weekend and
want the Party Mode.

When I enter my IP address, it seems to change the IP address to the
machine name correctly but just sits there 'connecting' until finally
telling me it could not connect.

If I remove password protection from my server, it connects just fine.
Is this a known problem?

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Update on Party Mode and its status in 7.3

2008-12-02 Thread herts101

Very excited about this development - well done to all involved.

Played around with the Playlist mode today and have some thoughts
below:

- Love the ability to make a simple choice between setting a track to
play next (Play) or adding a track to the end of the playlist (+).
Should be really easy to explain to guests

- I wouldn't want to lose the play next option (maybe this could be the
differentiator in Party Mode - i.e. both Play and + do add to end). At
the moment, Party mode doesn't seem significantly different to me

- Don't like being able to switch the mode on and off using funny
presses of the + key. Too easy for a guest to accidentally switch off
by holding down the + button too long

- Doesn't work with MusicIP at the moment - these reset the playlist

- Like the suggestion to simplify the mode setting to Standard,
Playlist, Party.

But, even as is, this is a great improvement. Thank you.

I confirmed that there is an issue with squeezeplay connecting to a
password protected server. Thanks much for reporting it. I created a
bug for it:
http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=10196

I'll be working on a fix today.

So do I. I have not explored these Party Mode settings purely because I
find the naming of the current choices (well, current from three days
ago anyway) entirely non-illuminating.

Thanks guys, may give that a go.

I've now left my slimserver machine at someone's house and won't get it

If there's no release by the time I get it back, I'll probably try a

[SlimDevices: Beta] AutoRescan plugin drives CPU utilization through the roof

2008-12-02 Thread kolding

I've been using the AutoRescan plugin on Fedora 7 for a while now, and
in recent versions of SC 7.3, the plugin seems to send CPU utilization
to 100% where it seems to stay for quite a while. The plugin used to
work great, and I've only seen this on newer 7.3 builds. While the
utilization is high, access to squeezecenter via the web is pretty much
impossible. Not sure about other interfaces.

I'm currently running the 24179 build, but also saw this with the 24069
build. Latest version of AutoRescan, which has been stable since August
or thereabouts.

Last few lines of a log. I added a few songs to a directory, the scan
seemed to get kicked off at 8:46:43, and CPU utilization was pegged for
about 2 minutes, until 8:48:31, when LazySearch2 seems to get notified.
Scanner log messages were on DEBUG level, but no messages showed up
during the high utilization period.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] AutoRescan plugin drives CPU utilization through the roof

2008-12-02 Thread Stuart Hickinbottom
The clue is in the "Now performing cleanup" message in the log, which is
where the plugin asks SqueezeCenter to look through the entire music
database and see if any files have disappeared, and if so to remove them
from the library.

This is, unfortunately, a feature of the way I've implemented it.
SqueezeCenter doesn't have an easy way of just saying "check this
directory to see if any files have been removed", and it doesn't seem to
be possible for a normal plugin to initiate selecting scanning in a
separate process in the same way that the normal scanner runs (this is
why you'll get pauses in playback during this process).

I have had other reports of this, though, and it's definitely a problem.
I've an idea for a design change that would help, which I've documented
in my ticket here:
http://www.hickinbottom.com/autorescan/ticket/12

This has the advantage that the rescanning and cleanup would happen in a
different process and so you shouldn't see any delays in playback, but
the disadvantage that it's doing a complete "look for new and changed
music" which means it'll take longer for your new music to show up in
the SqueezeCenter database.

What do you think of that change? Take a look at the ticket and see what
you think.

I'm pretty sure that the bug, if there is one, is in my plugin and not
SqueezeCenter, though.

Stuart

[SlimDevices: Beta] custom-convert.conf and convert.conf

2008-12-02 Thread Patrick Dixon

I've been trying to get server-side 96/48 transcoding working, and I'm a
bit confused about how these files are used and their locations.

I'm on ubuntu and I have /etc/squeezecenter/convert.conf

I copied this to /usr/share/squeezecenter/custom-convert.conf for
editing, expecting this to override anything in
/etc/squeezecenter/convert.conf, but it appears not to do this.

So, is /usr/share/squeezecenter/custom-convert.conf the correct
location for this file, and if so, why don't entries in
custom-convert.conf files override entries in the default
/etc/squeezecenter/convert.conf? - which would seem the sensible way
for it to work.

This one's okay because PreventStandby is available for windows only.
This plugin should not be part of the Ready/NAS Package - maybe it's
removed when an offical version is released.

kind regards,

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] AutoRescan plugin drives CPU utilization through the roof

2008-12-02 Thread gharris999

Hey! I hadn't tried AutoRescan before. This is very cool! I updated
the install.xml to allow it to run with 7.3. No problems thus far.
Very clever. Thanks.

I seem to recall someone suggesting that a little more effort be given
to the nightly download page beyond a simple Apache directory listing.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] custom-convert.conf and convert.conf

2008-12-02 Thread JJZolx

That's how it's supposed to work. You only need to the entries that you
want to override or add in custom-convert.conf, not all of them.

I have no idea what the expected location is for custom-convert.conf on
linux, but I know that on Windows machines it's the same directory as
convert.conf.

This is now fixed, but see the bug comments for workarounds for other
related issues that will be worked on after the 7.3 release.

[SlimDevices: Beta] Problem with 7.3r3464

2008-12-02 Thread tubes59

I received a message tonight on my Duet Controller that update to
version 7.3r3464 was available. When I tried to install it, it came
back with the message "There was a problem upgrading the remote.
Please try again or contact support." I tried a few more times and
powered the remote on and off but kept getting the same problem
message.

Any idea of what's wrong or if I should wait and try again tomorrow or
later?
Thank you.

Try it!

Its the same menu as you see on the Controller. You either just click
on the respective menu item to execute it, or alternatively the use the
up/down keys to navigate the menus and right key to execute, and left
key to back up.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] AutoRescan plugin drives CPU utilization through the roof

2008-12-02 Thread kolding

That explains a lot. The curious question is what changed that this
wasn't really happening with earlier versions of 7.3, or earlier
releases.

You solution seems reasonable. I don't really know enough about
threading in Perl/SC to comment on how you'd implement it, so I'll
leave that in your hands ;-)

Hope it can be done reasonably, this is one of my mostest favorite
plugins.
