Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] New SqueezeNetwork Hardware for Testing

2008-02-24 Thread EnochLight

Ok I'm back again. Using the latest nightly with SqueezeNet Beta seems
to be working pretty solid right now. No crashes or disconnects for
the past week and things seem to operate pretty stable.

That said, I tend to connect directly to SqueezeNetwork (beta) by
disconnecting from SqueezeCenter first, as opposed to connecting to
Rhapsody or Pandora (etc) from SqueezeCenter.

[SlimDevices: Beta] SqueezeNetwork (BETA) down?

2008-02-19 Thread EnochLight

This started last night and is still happening this morning. I even
tried the latest nightly with no luck - whenever I try to connect to
Rhapsody or Pandora via www.beta.squeezenetwork.com it claims the
accounts are invalid. I have not changed anything on the website...

What gives? Am I alone in this?

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Slimserver beta 7 and iTunes playlists: missing!

2007-09-23 Thread EnochLight

I noticed an anomaly in today's build; think I should post this as a
bug?

Ran the setup wizard and chose to have Slimserver sync with iTunes. I
also have a directory of FLAC's that I synced as well. Anyway, upon
first install and scan, Slimserver found my iTunes playlists.

However, I went into Slimserver Settings and under iTunes, I deleted
the prefix iTunes: and did a complete rescan. All of my iTunes
playlists dissappeared.

I went back into iTunes settings and entered the iTunes: prefix again
and did a complete rescan. However, my playlists were still gone! So,
I restarted - and here's the rub - my iTunes settings under Slimserver
were gone! No more menu! Plus, when I selected the iTunes plugin
settings under the Plugins, it gave me a page not found.

Uninstalling and reinstalling Slimserver, and then rescanning, appears
to have fixed this. However, that's a pain to have to go through.

I thought dropping the iTunes: prefix just eliminated how they appear
in your Slimserver list?

most of my applications and drivers work fine in Vista, even in the

I'm liking Vista a lot, and expect to be using the release candidates

snappy even 5536 feels.

I digress; 6.5 has been in alpha/pre-beta for an eternity it seems and
with the impending release of Vista to the masses very soon, it only
makes sense to start testing the two together now.

There's a good number of users of Slim Devices products that are early
adopters - I think most of us who beta/alpha test are clear examples.
It's not unreasonable to push for compatibility between the two at this
stage in the game.

6.3.1 works fine on Vista, so it's reasonable to assume that it
shouldn't be too difficult to kickstart 6.5 - which is scheduled for
release around the time that the Transporter comes out.

For any/all Slim Devices peeps out there, Vista will be on my machine
at this point so if you need me to test any Slim Server builds geared

I realize that ben may be aware of this already, but the floating

As this happens on the PSP and my desktop computer as well, I would
surmise that fixing this bug will possibly fix it on the PSP's handling
of the Nokia 770 skin as well.

On a final note, how you see the Nokia 770 skin pictured below is
exactly how crisp it appears on the PSP's display. Thanks again Ben!

[SlimDevices: Beta] Re: 6.5b and Nokia 770 skin on the Playstion Portable PSP - comments coming soon...

2006-02-04 Thread EnochLight

OK, I apologize for the crappy pics but my digital is cheap and I had to
keep the flash off to avoid a major spotlighting effect from the PSP's
hi-gloss screen. Since the flash was off and I was hand holding my
camera, the shutter stayed open long enough for it to blur the shots...
:-(

I figure I'll post this review in separate posts for each pic so I can
add my comments to each one - I apologize if this irritates long-time
forum members but it will allow people to quote posts a bit easier.

Anywho, on to my review!

The first thing I must point out is that despite these pics, the screen
on the PSP is second to none as far as handheld gaming devices are
concerned - it's native 480 x 272 and very crisp. Text is normally
incredible on the PSP screen and icon/graphics are amazing - the
graphics/icons to the Nokia 770 skin are just as crisp on the PSP's
screen - don't let these pic's fool you!

You can setup the PSP's Internet browser to display one of three
settings: Normal, Just-Fit, and Smart-Fit. I have found that for the
Nokia 770, the Best-Fit option is..err - the best, in my opinion. ;-)
The Normal setting makes you have to scroll vertical as well as
horizontal since the Nokia 770 skin was designed for a resolution of
800 x 480; the Smart-Fit doesn't quite squeeze everything onto the
screen. Best-Fit works great, and the skin seems to scale well for it
- the icons move into place nicely. You are still required to scroll
vertically though by holding down the SQUARE button and the analog
joystick in conjunction (this is the PSP's mouse).

Below is the only shot I could get of the display that came out crisp
due to my lack of flash and caffeine induced hand holding:

As all PSP owners who use the Internet browser introduced in the PSP's
2.0 firmware know, entering text remains to be a pain in the arse. No
QWERTY keyboard option is, well, a huge handicap. Rumor had it that a
nice USB based QWERTY keyboard accessory was to be released by a
company called Logic 3 (Google it) some time ago. My guess is Sony -
being the archaic asses that they are - wont play nice with Logic 3 so
they're sitting on it until they do.

At any rate, placing your cursor above any text-enterable (is that a
word?) selections brings up the dreaded pencil:

Browse by Album Art brings you to the following sight. Note, loading
times while doing this takes a while - even with many of mine appearing
as the default ?-mark, we're talking in excess of 10-20 seconds while
the page loads.

Note, it is also possible that if you possess album art for everything
in your collection, your PSP's browser could run out of memory while
attemting to load it. Any PSP user who uses PSP firmware 2.0 to surf
the web knows what I am talking about. I have a 1 Gig memory stick and
for some reason it constantly runs out of memory while trying to load
certain web pages - it has 32 Megs of RAM but doesn't seem to utilize
any of your memory stick as a virtual drive.

That said, I would like to note that the Nokia 770's handling of browse
by album art works fabulously. It scales well and looks nice. Album
text would be nice but unrealistic in this setting (in my opinion):

I've also done a fresh install of XP and SlimServer 6.5b1. Same problem
 - doesn't start. I've reverted to 6.2.1 for the moment.

Just in case you weren't aware, the latest version is 6.2.2 (5724) -
it's a maintenance release that fixed a few bugs after 6.2.1...

You can get it right 'HERE'

Cheers!

[SlimDevices: Beta] Trying to run 6.5 - won't seem to start... suggestions?

2006-01-20 Thread EnochLight

I've done a clean reformat of my system (just went dual-core - WAHOO!)
and instead of installing 6.2 I decided to try the 6.5 beta and lend a
hand in testing.

However, it installs and starts minimized on my task bar but never
begins searching my library or appears to give me access. 6.2 took all
of a few seconds to initialize.

Is there something I am doing wrong with the 6.5 beta?

Cheers,

EnochLight

Yikes - that's a bit past my understanding. ;-) Thanks anyway; looks
like I'll stick with 6.2.2 instead...
