Inclusion list and exclusion list is the way to go ( IMHO ). But have the inclusion list at the top and the exclusion at the bottom if the user don't exclude anything it will works as it always has . Then the risk of confusing some less technically minded users are much smaller , if they do what they always done it will be bussiness as usuall , they migth not even notice the new option. Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Why many men with an equal number of trunpets?
Seems to finally work most artist gort pics 70-80% , lock-up could be a little smarter , but it's probably down to some TEN issue distinguishing variants on artists like different iterations of jazz bands for example . "Eric Bibb" works but not "Eric Bibb & Needed Time" Artist A & Artist B ican fail except in vary famous cases " Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris" works for example not other less known combinations. However the suggested "Elvis test" still fails :9000/imageproxy/mai/artist/elvis/image.png until i change elvis to Elvis :) Funny enough it is not case sensitive on all artists ? I first thought it was a because i have a Linux server but it's not consistent ? So in some cases if missing artists picture it could just be a missing Capital letter in the artist tag Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub. I have lately been offered an upgrade to both my Touch on my running install so they are regularly pushed . server and player fw are not always upgraded at the same time . Note that Touch fw includes a version of the server so it is actually bigger in size than the actual server , that's maybe a reason for why Radio,Touch and Controller fw is downloaded later but only if you actually have one . I still think some limited biugfixing is possible if it coincide with functionality that is shared with the UE version , or a service that is common with UE and mysqueezebox.com . Shared functionality may be parts of the scanner code, but not the sort modes that won't be used on the UE interface . Let's se if they open a bug category for UE ? Who knows . Sound reasonable ,but you have to ask sometimes , and even silence is an answer ;) which concur with your pow that not even the logitech folk knows.. Even if work has been slow there are some improvements in 7.8 a pity if not went official , but i'll wait if they commit some more time and do away some of the remaining bugs , as it EOL they donÂ’t have to be inventive just fix issues with the expected functionality . And some fixes may actually be needed in UE 10.0.1 for example fixing the track-art vs album-art issue or any scanner related bug will also benefit 10.0.1 this is plausible if they want a "simple product" scanner not crashing is an even more critical issue . And the Radio has never had any fw beyond 7.7.2 this is most unlikely to change i think ? as it is not user salvageable if it went wrong , Touch or controller can be saved with SD-card or USB stick . I have quite a lot of nightly RPM builds backed up . I'll almost always run nightly builds , but there is not much point if debugging input or other user input is not wanted any more , but i like 7.8 and would be happy to see a stabilised debugged version as the last official release :) I know that some web-UI centric users with an affection for perfect tags and dB skills prefer 7.5.x series more consistent presentation , there was after all a whole zoo of unresolved bugs in the web-UI presentation introduced by "onebrowser" . Those settings serves a purpose , if the delay is always and constantly the same, you only have to adjust it once . Also ther is cases when sync can't work without the help of this. For example many HT receivers with some digital DRC and eq etc , the processing will introduce a delay that can not be known to the server unless you set it yourself . There is some delay trough my processor and digital speakers that I adjusted for . But that can be more finicky than you migth like , from where should it sync ,you need to listen equidistant to all sources than also go to each room and judge how fluttery it sounds and make a compromise judged from where you listen mostly . Even if the sound comes out at the exact same moment in two players does guarantee subjectively good sync in all locations sound is not very fast, if you are extremely close to one player and crank up the volume on the one farthest away how does that sound to you ? But a reasonable compromise can often be found, it's often ok on not to crazy volumes so that the closest player dominates the sound and the other are synced enough to not interfere in an irritating way . The nightly build process seems to run smoothly for once , so new builds are churned out now and then . But what is it building ? As far as I can see for weeks/months on ends it building 1337855496 all over ? Is it that absolutely nothing has been developed in weeks/months ? Git does not provide non programers with any good insights ? It is a bit fractured and hard to follow. And why does it build when nothing is changed ? It gives the impression of activity when there is none ? If out if ideas, fix a bug or two . If we accept that Most of bugzilla is dupes bogus or misplaced support cases to a factor 10/1 You would still have 100's of real issues. The number of bugs is a bit misleading it includes fixed and invalid and duplicate bugs ,we don't have 17900 unfixed bugs :) then LMS would be classified as electronic warfare . Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Bugs in "Look for new and changed"
I've seen similar things over the years ( extra albums etc ). I think some of it are pure bugs and some of it are down to the mechanism used to detect changes . And I think some cleaning up inmthe dB does not work properly either ? I think LMS mainly uses the timestamp, but some of us including me try to not change timestamps while tagging to nut bungle the new music list . Then I *think* LMS tries to determine if the file size have changed, but some files have padding in the tags areas so that if you change the tag the file size do not change at all . A large enough change may be detected ? Some have written scripts that move the date a couple of seconds to get this to work better . I think I'll vote on the bug , you can surely find even more cases then you have described . So a catch all bug for better detection of changes is good . But how to improve if neither date or file size have changed ? I have one idea to go forward if LMS can detect that at least one file in an album have changed, discard all data on that album and rescan all the files in the album including cover art file . If the user have a reasonable organisation of the music LMS could even detect if anything in the folder with the album have changed size or something else ? Can the host OS provide info on file activity ? I'll bet Linux or osx can , so at least a simple mechanism for these OS can be designed ? This IS very similar to what always seen since way back . My amateur interpretation is that there are stale entries in the database and also stale images in the image database file . And that LMS thinks some of the new files are the old files for some reason . I f you do like this : 1. First remove the whole album completely -then- do a "scan for new and changed" is it still there , or is the album completely gone ? 2. If it's gone add the new version of the album an do another "scan for new and changed" Re long scan times, you don't have to be there and watch the scan for 5 hours do it while at work or sleeping ? Thoughts . You are aware of that embedded art have precedence over cover.jpg so as long as there is an embedded art tag it wins it does not matter if you have a file . I would make a tag change on all album files ( new an old ) so that they get the same time stamp . I would make sure that there is no difference In tagging re new vs old files , using mp3tag or puddle tag . Make sure that I embed the same art in all files ( with the exception of albums with track art, LMS handles track art very buggy , but that is another bug ) Or you sure this a new behaviour , it is very similar to the many other scenarios where you end up with double albums after a tag change and " scan for new and changed " . This usually fixes itself after a " clear and rescan ". I would say that " fixing " existing albums pretty much always gives you weird entries in LMS like double albums . Quite surprised that you have not seen this before ? But it is a good one as you found a bug where new and old file separate in two albums in some sort of predicable and reproducible manner, maybe it helps Michael to analyse this . If they are still giving you separate albums/no artwork after a "clear and rescan" I would suspect the tagging. If this is only a problem after an incremental scan , I would say it is LMS not entirely predictable " new and changed " scan. "New" is mostly ok ,the " changed " part is somewhat random . This worked like a charm for Touch and Radio but not for BOOM it was supposed to wake the server for the alarm , that did not work, so I pushed some other buttons to see if could trigger this no luck . I think that a common use case is that family members simply have different music files and taste altogether so by choosing your user you switch everything . Would not that simply be easier but the integrating things between users the more demanding stuff . I mean if user simply have their own cache and prefs folder locations, would not multiple users be like (re)starting LMS with another set of those . That would mean installing plugins for every user but also that users could have different plugins . Harder to do spawn LMS with different users at the same time ! on any platform, multiple instance is not unknown but this usually involve some knowledgeable trickery with bind addresses so that you can make the players see the difference . if this is done select source on a player could be select user too . Next big issue would be to stop family members from stealing each others players :) -- Mnyb Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub. Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Lms 7.8?
They need to work with the NAS vendors so that more offer Squeezeboxserver/LMS in their add ins . upnp/dlna is simply not good enough . In a dream world there would be a "super dlna standard" and every one could just pick and match media players and UI front ends and servers however they wanted and shop just any NAS . The background problem is that streaming media and internet radio and services is a bit imature . And strong actors like Apple are creating their own de-facto standards and have large monopolies of their own . Cell phones and sat-tv is more mature you can put in your sim card in any phone and chose almost any operator ? and it works . You don't need a special AT&T phone or special Nokia sim card . But you do need a special reciva chip for thier offerings or vTuner or mysqueezebox.com . And all the the different service vendors want their own apps and proprietary protocols . I don't see a really simple and user friendly products as long as the media situation is a mess . And what about bying and downloading content to a media server outside iTunes ? -- Mnyb Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub. Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Lms 7.8?
Well well yes the server should run all those programs to if you have ps3's and networked blueray players so it's a given . In that kind of context there is no way around a central server of some kind . This could be a powerfull NAS actually, sadly some poeple are using not so powerfull NAS for this and are disappointed that it does not work as expected But to actually use LMS for it ? there are a bunch of more suited apps for that . I do think that the media part of LMS should be scrapped , there are simply to many devices and odd requirements to cope with , LMS should be specifically for Squeezeboxes the one thing it is good at not also on the side be a me-too somewhat flawed video and picture server draining dev resources , there are bugs about it and questions every week and the devs use real time to track issues with smasung tv's or whatnot instead of some basic omitted function for a squeezebox . I think Erlands has piont re developing and function and then just abandon it LMS has a pretty lame facebook function you just post 3 kinds of preformed posts thats it , not even write you own comment ? It goes whitout a saying that either they scrap it or do something better about it ? How important is a blue logo with an F on the box ? that's basically what it is about. And should they really do facebook plugins with at the moment 17927 bugs most of them more important . Btw is there an updated road-map about what 8.0 is about :) with this new and positive agenda of hiring more devs , there must be a long term plan I know that no one is going to tell about future devices . Historically big leaps in development has been accompanied by new hardware . But as the current hardware is good for so much more I feel that there is a lot of room in Touch and Radio for more ? -- Mnyb Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub. And relatively cheap yes, but they need a serverless player anyway paying for the server several times in a multi room install make no sense . I don't think you actually pay for a server in Touch, I speculate that it was moores law again someone figured hmm just maybe we can shoehorn in a crippled server here let's try So a server free Touch 2 ( basically improved Touch ) and Touch 3 with some more CPU grunt ? Or actually a stand alone server , you would not call it " server", to frightening a music base station of some kind ( is not that what Sonos get away with ) no fan room for one 3TB 3,5" drive small, made in cheerful designed plastic maybe in white. -- Mnyb Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub. Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Lms 7.8?
The weird thing is that so much more could have been done ? There are so many omissions of "normal" functionality in music playing software ? The framework is mildly complex may take a tiny effort to come trough , but then what ? If the reward was higher more would thinks it is worthwhile to do . I'm thrilled that I can have a playlist with spotify tracks bandcamp tracks and my own tracks at the same time . And actually thanks to Triode and Pippin look for similar artist on spotify etc . Being old shool liking my own files I mostly explore with services I quickly tries to add interesting stuff as local files . And biography and lyrics . But a surprising lot of my favorite functions are third party :) thankyou But I would expect logitech to develop more music functions on thier own ? A football score screen-saver or wheather is hardly core functionality , let third party set the agenda here . But for example why must a plugin like playlist manager exist ? this is core functions . -- Mnyb Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub. Not all people do this . And finally does picasa account for filename changes and file changes aka tagging done by other software ?
