Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Is this a problem?

2007-12-17 Thread andyg

So you're streaming native FLAC and native WMA to the player? It may
help to enable player.source debugging as well.

BTW, this is a harmless warning, so don't spend too much time on it.
If the hash value is not found, as in your case, it will default to
16-bit samples.

What format of music files are you playing? This is the line in
question:

my $size = $pcm_sample_sizes{$track->samplesize()};

So maybe your tracks aren't having their sample size detected properly?

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Nightly 13Dec - Firmware update?

2007-12-15 Thread andyg

Thanks for the logs. I still can't reproduce this bug though. I am
curious about the extra SETD messages your player is sending, can you
recreate the bug and enable 'prefs' in your debugging settings?

Do these logs include when the circle animation stops? That is when
the server should be reading and sending the firmware file. But I
don't see the UREQ message either, which is what the player sends when
you hold brightness.

Is anyone else having this same problem?

Since you already upgraded you will need to use firmware 83 and change
the squeezebox2.version file to put your player back into the 'needs
upgrade' state. You can download 83 here:
http://svn.slimdevices.com/*checkout*/trunk/server/Firmware/squeezebox2_83.bin?rev=14252

I think I've fixed the bug and I built a new nightly build that contains

should be able to test this bug by forcing a firmware update by holding

anything.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Slacker support

Slacker is completely free, so no reason not to use it. The free
version allows 6 skips per hour and includes audio ads (not yet, but
they will add ads soon). There is also a premium version with no ads,
unlimited skips and an on-demand library of your favorite tracks.
Slacker also has some pre-built stations in common genres for you to
listen to without having to create your own station first.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] 7 won't start on Ubuntu

2007-09-18 Thread andyg

If they're not in core debian, they are in our repository, which I
assume you're using?

deb http://debian.slimdevices.com unstable

On CPAN they are:
JSON::XS
File::Next

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] 7 won't start on Ubuntu

2007-09-09 Thread andyg

Yeah I mean, I assume you're using the latest deb from unstable?

The bug was in slimserver_safe, see if your /usr/sbin/slimserver_safe
contains a 'sleep 5' line. Try increasing the sleep time and see if it
helps. The problem was there was no delay between checking if
SlimServer was running and restarting it. When changing users from
root to slimserver, there needs to be a delay.

A stream failure would stop as you described, but shouldn't blank the

2006-11-30 Thread andyg

It's the same story as before, I don't really know what to tell you.
All 3 streams are rock solid here, and stayed at a solid 8, 13, and 56
seconds buffered respectively for the short time I listened to each
one. This is largely thanks to your streaming server which allows a
quick startup by sending extra data to new listeners. I'm using a
1-second Buffer Secs value too.

Sorry to say, it still sounds like your connection is the problem. :(

When you say it 'turns itself off', do you mean it crashes and reboots
(does the SD logo appear?) or what? What firmware are you running?

2006-11-01 Thread andyg

I looked over the previous thread and I'm not sure I saw any indication
that you've tried the following things:

Other radio stations. Do they work? Here is a high-bandwidth 160kbps
station: http://207.200.96.226:8038/

What does your buffer fullness display show? In 6.5.1 it will be "XX
seconds" and indicate how many seconds of audio are in the buffer, i.e.
how long it would play if you killed the network. As a test you can
pause the stream and watch this value increase.

Have you tried increasing the Radio Station Buffer Seconds value under
Server Settings -> Network? Try 30 seconds.

There's no polling in UPnP, we receive multicast packets from all
devices on the network. Devices send out announcements every once in a
while to let others know where they are.

Yeah, so anything that even connects to the WMC web server will appear
here, try it from a web browser and see. It just defaults everything
to unknown. I suppose a fully-compiant device that advertises itself
as a media renderer will let WMC pull these details, but we don't do
that and it doesn't seem to really matter anyway.

[SlimDevices: Beta] Re: UPnP - Windows Media Connect 2.0

2006-09-06 Thread andyg

This was driving me nuts so I figured out the actual problem.

Windows Media Connect requires a certain order of XML elements in the
u:Browse element. I am not sure if this is required by the UPnP spec
or not. Anyway, it works now, however I don't think WM Connect
supports any normal media files, as I can't seem to get it to browse
through any of my mp3, ogg, or flac files. I guess it's only for WMA
files?

Also, it doesn't respond properly to M-SEARCH requests, so you have to
stop and start the sharing service every time you restart SlimServer.
Very annoying, I would recommend using some other UPnP server.

[SlimDevices: Beta] Re: New plugin: RadioTime

2006-08-25 Thread andyg

It would be great to see multiple streams. In general MP3 streams
should be preferred over WMA streams. The quality is better, you get
'now playing' metadata, and 100% of mp3 stations will work whereas some
WMA stations do not.

Perhaps you could organize it so that if a particular station has
multiple streams, you push into a submenu that lists format and bitrate
(if known), something like:

KUHB-FM ->
MP3 96kbps
WMA 20kbps

Or just leave out the lower bitrate WMA, as there would be no reason to
listen to it in this case, unless for some reason the MP3 stream was
down.

Also note that we support a bitrate attribute in the OPML, so you can
do:

Is there a way to browse by radio program yet? I didn't see a menu for
that.

[SlimDevices: Beta] Re: 6.3 - Rhapsody working?

2006-06-26 Thread andyg

Rhapsody sends a broadcast SSDP notify message which SlimServer picks up
and then registers the host and port number of the Rhapsody HTTP server
for all future Rhapsody browse and stream requests. I'm not sure I
understand you mean, but whatever you did to your firewall, I'd suggest
not doing it. :)

You can run with --d_plugins to see a message when SlimServer adds and
removes Rhapsody servers.

Timeouts and general Rhapsody error-handling should be much improved
now. Please let me know if you have any other problems.

I managed to crash my Rhapsody today and saw the long timeout problem.
I'll see about shortening the timeouts or adding some crash detection
so it won't be such an issue.

An "unable to connect" error usually means something could be wrong
with the Rhapsody app. Try restarting it or rebooting your Windows
box. If that doesn't solve it, can you post a --d_plugins --d_source
--d_directstream log file?

Ripped tracks used to work? Have you tried it on a real SB? Rhap on
Softsqueeze is unsupported since it cannot play WMA or encrypted WMA.
I never tested playing imported music, I guess I figured you could just
use the normal method to point SlimServer to your music, but I'll look
and see what's going on.

I assume your SUSE server is your internet router as well as
SlimServer? Configure your firewall to only be active on the internet
interface and not on your LAN interface.

Update to last night's nightly.

[SlimDevices: Beta] Re: 6.3 - Rhapsody working?

2006-06-24 Thread andyg

SlimServer should detect all servers on a LAN automatically soon after
they start up. If for some reason you are firewalling your internal
LAN connections, try disabling your internal firewall. There are
several standard UPnP ports but Rhapsody also starts up an HTTP server
on a random high port number that changes every time Rhapsody is
restarted.

[SlimDevices: Beta] Re: SB2/3 still won't stay synched

2006-06-18 Thread andyg

You can but most/all output is sent to stderr, so you'd need this to
redirect it:

>logfile.log 2>&1

--logfile is easier. :)

Hmm, I'll try to reproduce on Monday. To get a good log you can run the
following:

--logfile sync.log --d_sync --d_playlist --d_source
