bump. Hasn't anyone else noticed this behavior? I've upgraded to the

[SlimDevices: Beta] MusicIP mix not creating from songs in playlists

2008-02-28 Thread kyleki

On either my SB2 or SB3, going to "Music Library" -> "Playlists" ->
[right on a playlist] -> [hold play on a song] I get the menus to
customize my MusicIP mix. However, pressing right to create the mix
simply bumps the display and the menu doesn't change to the mix.

If I add just a couple more steps by: [press right on the song] ->
[right on album] -> [hold play on title] then it works properly.

Is there a reason that MusicIP can't create the mix from the reference
to the song from the playlist menu? In both cases, the SqueezeBox
displays show the MM icon in the upper right corner letting me know
that I should be able to use it as a seed for a mix. I'm also not
seeing any errors in the logs.

I've noticed this for the past few nightly versions I used. I'm
currently on: SqueezeCenter Version: 7.0 - 17665 - Red Hat - EN -
utf8

Thanks,
Kyle

Thanks. Apparently after upgrading to this morning's build (and not

[SlimDevices: Beta] Add a value to shortDateFormats?

2008-01-31 Thread kyleki

I personally prefer the following shortDateFormat when viewing dates:

Code:

q(%a %-m/%d) => q{WWW M/DD}

Any chance of this being added to the default Utils/DateTime.pm? I
currently have to put it in after every upgrade. :(

[SlimDevices: Beta] Permissions set by yum repo rpm

2008-01-31 Thread kyleki

The rpm installed via the yum repo always changes the owner of
/usr/lib/squeezecenter to 'root' which breaks a few things for me. I
end up getting the following permissions errors after every upgrade:

Code:

[08-01-27 17:00:43.5676] Slim::Networking::Select::select (245) Error:
Select task failed: Can't open /cookies.dat: Permission denied at
/usr/share/squeezecenter/CPAN/HTTP/Cookies.pm line 409.

To fix this, I simply execute:

Code:

chown -R squeezecenter.squeezecenter /usr/share/squeezecenter

Should the rpm be doing this for me or am I doing something wrong?

I'm also experiencing this. I'm running the latest build (via yum repo
- SqueezeCenter Version: 7.0 - 16284 - Red Hat - EN - utf8). I've
cleared the Firefox cache and also fully reloaded the page in the
browser by doing a SHIFT-click refresh. It looks like it's some type
of javascript function that's not completing and holds up the page from
being fully loaded.

This only started happening about a week ago for me.

I'm seeing the following error in my server.log file, but I'm not sure
it's relevant:

Code:

[08-01-15 11:51:40.9496] Slim::Networking::Select::select (245) Error:
Select task failed: Can't use an undefined value as a SCALAR reference at

True. I suppose I was over simplifying it in my mind not realizing
that the downstream scan stages would depend on when MIP finished its

OK, cool. As long as it gets fixed in the mix I guess. I just figured
that a fix for this specific issue would be easier than having all the
extra development overhead of adding a scheduler.

I don't think that bug's describing quite the same thing as it focuses
on wanting a scheduler for the MusicIP scan process. I, on the other
hand, just want a regular "clear and rescan" from squeezecenter to
first execute a MusicIP rescan operation, if it's installed. I don't
need the scheduler.

[SlimDevices: Beta] "Clear and Rescan" not clearing?

2008-01-06 Thread kyleki

I had a song (songA) on my filesystem that was a duplicate of another
song (songB) in a different folder on my filesystem. The id3 genre for
songA was set to '1', so I could browse to it in the web interface by
going to:  Music Folders -> Genres -> 1 -> Ozzy Osbourne ->
Miscellaneous.

Since I had the same song properly stored elsewhere as songB, I deleted
songA. Then I did a "Clear and Rescan" of my library expecting songA's
listing to be removed from SqueezeCenter. However, after the scan
completed, Genre '1' is still listed under Genres even though there are
no more songs with this id3 genre tag. Furthermore, the first time
after doing the "Clear and Rescan", clicking on the '1' genre shows me
'Ozzy Osbourne' and allows me to drill down to the "song", but of
course, I can't play it. ;-)

Interestingly enough, after drilling down to it once and navigating
back up to the top, subsequent navigations into Genre -> 1 don't show
any sub-sections and it stops here.

Is the "Clear and Rescan" not properly clearing all song information
from the database before populating it again from the scan?

I'm using the following:
SqueezeCenter Version: 7.0 - 15928 - Red Hat - EN - utf8 (installed via
yum repo)
Fedora 7

Awesome! I use the following plugins not on the current list. Can they

- 'WeatherTime'

I hope this repo is easy enough to maintain so it doesn't get too
overwhelming or stale. Having some sort of official "yumifizing your
plugins howto" would be helpful for plugin developers. Then they could
theoretically keep their own plugins updated in the repo.

Can you please point me to the debate where having the search box in
the interface was "clutter"? I, and others here, are trying to make a
simple and concise argument for why the search box should always be
visible.

Giving some respect to these opinions would serve *you* (and
SqueezeCenter, although I know you're not a slim employee) well at this
point. Why do you insist on such quick, road-block responses as this
instead of realizing there are a lot of valid points being made? Why
wouldn't it be easier to maintain code that doesn't include a bunch of
hide/show logic around a search field? That's just plain common sense
and shouldn't be up for debate, IMHO...

I'm having a hard time understanding how a little white text field that
sits out of the way of the main page is ever considered clutter by
anyone.

Having a search component readily available is a critical piece on
sites that have a lot of "items" to look through. When I go to
Amazon.com, I very rarely look for my item by browsing through the
categories. I usually use the search function to find it. Likewise,
when I'm looking for a certain song, I'd much rather just search for it
rather than going through the multiple clicks required for a browse.

How many times have you seen advice on these forums to "browse" for the
answer their looking for? *Never*. It's always "search". ;-)

I just updated to the latest rpm in the yum repository (20071230), and
the way the search box dynamically displays on a mouse-over of the
"search button" is a bit annoying. It requires you to mouse over the
button then *quickly* glide your mouse left and click to gain focus in
the text field. If you wait a little too long before clicking, it
disappears.

The search text field should always be displayed next to the search
button. It doesn't add "complexity" to the interface and doesn't make
it look messy either, IMHO.

I'm really confused why people are saying they don't like the 3D

slick look.

Also, I don't agree with everyone's comments on "too much white space
makes it complex". What about Google's homepage? ;-) However, I do
agree that the alignment could use a little adjusting. But seriously,
there are some pretty harsh words being used here about how "broken"
the new interface is when I feel it's a huge step in the right
direction.

I guess I didn't think about it because I felt clicking Music Library
-> Random Mix would start playing a random mix (like the squeezebox
interface does). I was looking under the "Settings" section for the
settings of this "plugin" and couldn't find it.

Any chance of putting the "Settings" button on the Extras page for this
one as an alternative way of accessing it?

Now that I know where it is, I guess it works fine. Hopefully my
intuition won't tell me otherwise when I need to find it again in 3-6

I also like the new interface. It's simple, slick, and more user
friendly. It's interesting to see how everyone views style
differently. ;-)

If these processes are left running then it's not working properly.
This was the whole point of bug 5620.

In any of your tests, have these processes been stopped along with the
slimserver one?

I would like to second this request. Having a yum repo would make

Likewise, I've now posted 'Bug 5956'

Perhaps this wasn't clear enough:

I also have zero problems doing a ping, nslookup, etc for any of the
domains that SC7 complains about. But, for some strange reason (I'm
leaning towards blaming the mDNS stuff currently), SC7 can't resolve
the names.

Code:

  Non-authoritative answer:
  Name: update.slimserver.com

I think you need to consider there's something wrong with the way SC7
is resolving names, not the DNS servers that are being used...

I did another clear and rescan and noticed that I could view by Albums
up until it started working on the playlist stage. From that point on
in the rescan process and once it completes, I encounter the behavior
above. I've only tested this in the Default and Fishbone skins so far.
Both exhibiting the same behavior.

I just figured out the problem. I had changed the uid of the slimserver

Sorry about the trouble and thank you very much for your patience and

I've now tried Default, Fishbone, and Classic skins. None of which
have an entry for the ExtendedAlarm plugin in the pulldown. Am I
looking in the right place? Here's exactly what I do:

In Classic Skin:
--
1) Click "Player Settings for Bedroom" link in the left frame under
"Settings"
2) It takes me to the "Basic Settings" section by default
3) Clicking the pull-down listing "Basic Settings" at the top just
under the "Home /" "cookie trail" link opens up a pull-down with the
following entries: Alarm, Audio, Basic Settings, Display, Menus,
MusicIP, Remote.
4) The only thing that remotely looks like something for the
ExtendedAlarm is the "Alarm" section, but going there just shows me the
standard slim alarm settings.

In Fishbone Skin:
-
1) Click "Settings" link in the upper right hand corner of the right
hand frame above the player controls.
2) This shows me the same thing in the left frame as the Classic Skin
did in step #3 (with a different skin look, of course). No
ExtendedAlarm option in the pull-down.

Are you sure? I'm referring to the plugin found here:
http://www.deane-freeman.com/slimserver/

not the standard alarm plugin that comes with SC.

I don't see any place in the Player settings to change any "Extras"
options. The only place with a reference to "Extras" is under the
Server Settings.

Thank you for your prompt response. Does this just mean that I can't
view or modify the settings for the plugins yet or that there is a
workaround? I looked all over in the Player settings link and couldn't
find anything related to the ExtendedAlarm plugin.

[SlimDevices: Beta] ExtendedAlarm plugin settings not available

2007-10-17 Thread kyleki

I thought I'd try out SC7 to do some testing. When I unzip the
ExtendedAlarm plugin into the /usr/local/slimserver/Plugins directory
and restart the daemon, the plugin loads and is seen on SC Settings ->
Extras. However, once I click the puzzle piece and try clicking the
"Settings" button, a new browser window pops up with a 404 error in
it:

404 Not Found: plugins/ExtendedAlarm/settings/basic.html

This html file can be found as
/usr/local/slimserver/Plugins/ExtendedAlarm/HTML/EN/plugins/ExtendedAlarm/settings/basic.html,
but it can't seem to be found by SC7.

I followed the suggestion in a different thread to clear the cache and
restart the server, but that didn't help.

What am I doing wrong?

[SlimDevices: Beta] Re: No 6.5 RPMs?

2006-09-03 Thread kyleki

Still no RPMs. :(

Is there an ETA on when we might expect to see them again? I've been
waiting for over a week to update my machine and it's been killing me.
;-)

In the meantime, would it be a good idea for me to do the following?:

1) Shutdown slimserver daemon
2) Copy /usr/local/slimserver to /usr/local/slimserver.copy
3) Uninstall slimserver RPM
4) Move /usr/local/slimserver.copy to /usr/local/slimserver
5) Un-tar the nightly tar to /usr/local/slimserver
6) Startup slimserver daemon

Or are the RPMs right around the corner so I shouldn't waste my time?

I just tried upgrading from 7458 to this morning's build (2006-05-27)
and slimserver won't start any longer. I'm getting the following
message in /tmp/slimserver.log:

Code:

'/usr/local/slimserver/MySQL/errmsg.sys' had only 461 error messages,
but it should contain at least 463 error messages.
Check that the above file is the right version for this program!

I've never used the MySQL stuff in my Slim installations and always
relied on the default database (SQLite?).

Please help!

No need to mention the experimental bit on 6.5; I am using it entirely
with this understanding. I just figured I'd mention it in case you
guys wanted to fix it, that's all.

I loaded up 7204 (April 29th) last night and it seems to have been
fixed as I can no longer reproduce it. Sorry about the premature
report. I just didn't see any other mention of it on these boards so I
didn't know if it had any visibility.

Thanks,

[SlimDevices: Beta] Undefined subroutine crash 6.5b1 7173

2006-04-29 Thread kyleki

My slimserver crashes any time I do the following from my SB2:

1) Load a saved playlist and begin playing.
2) Press "Add" to remove the currently playing song from playlist
3) Press and hold "Play" to save modified playlist
4) Press right to save to the same name (the name is already filled
in)
5) Press right again to confirm the overwrite.

After doing this, my SB2 screen goes blank and my server log shows:
Undefined subroutine
&Slim::Formats::Playlists::M3U::_filehandleFromNameOrString called at
/usr/local/slimserver/Slim/Formats/Playlists/M3U.pm line 147.

This has worked fine in the past and I'm not sure which build broke it
since I haven't used this "save playlist" feature in a little while.

Is this a known issue that's been fixed in the past day or so? The
build I'm running with is from April 27th; only 2 days ago. Should I
log a bug for it?

[SlimDevices: Beta] Re: Streaming over the Net allows external users too much access

2006-03-02 Thread kyleki

I may be naive, but wouldn't it be possible to support different port
numbers for the stream than the HTTP interface? This way, you would
only allow the stream ports through your firewall and block any HTTP
requests. The biggest downside to this, of course, is anyone listening
has no control over the music they're listening to, like a radio
station.

If you needed limited control, couldn't you put together a simple web
form using the HTTP or command-line interfaces?

[SlimDevices: Beta] Re: Alarms jumping songs

2006-02-21 Thread kyleki

Well, it happened *again* this morning and I may have a little more info
to help track down what's going on.

* I fell asleep to a playlist in "Shuffle by Song" mode last night
(~2000 mp3s in playlist) with the sleep timer.
* Alarm went off at 7:30am and started playing a random song from my
"wake_up" playlist (~75 mp3s in playlist) and the SB2 was still in
"Shuffle by Song" mode.
* After playing the song for about 6-8 seconds, the SB2 went into
"Don't shuffle playlist" mode and started playing the first song in the
playlist.
* After playing this song for about 6-8 seconds, the SB2 started the
first song over again.
* Once this happened, it played through the entire song and continued
normally.
* I had to manually place the SB2 back into "Shuffle by Song" mode.

Does anyone else use their squeezeboxes this way and *not* see the
problem? Am I doing something wrong?

Again, this is with 6.5b1-6308-Linux and SB2 FW33.

[SlimDevices: Beta] Re: Alarms jumping songs

2006-02-19 Thread kyleki

This just happened to me again this morning, twice. Yesterday, I
upgraded my server to 6.5b1 - 6308 - Linux which upgraded my SB2 to
FW33. I cleared the database and rescanned all my music (~10,000 mp3
files) which left the SB2 "Now Playing" playlist empty. When my
"Everyday" alarm went off this morning at 6:45, it played the first
random song in the playlist for about 8 seconds. Then, it jumped to
another random song in the playlist and continued to work properly.
Since I didn't want to wake up at 6:45, I reset the alarm to 7:30. At
7:30, the same thing happened with the first song being played for only
a few seconds before automatically skipping to the next one.

What can I do to try and debug this problem? Which debug flags would
help show me what's going on (I've never used them before)?

This message was placed in the log right after I upgraded yesterday:
2006-02-18 14:32:14.1451 Client not found for slimproto msg op: IR

And I just noticed this message from when I rescanned my library last
night for a second time:

[SlimDevices: Beta] Alarms jumping songs

2006-01-26 Thread kyleki

Has anyone else encountered their alarm starting to play one song, only
to automatically jump to another a few seconds later? Sometimes this
happens 2 or 3 times before my Squeezebox2 settles on a song and
continues playing normally.

It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does, it's very annoying.
It has occured with both a saved playlist and the RandomSongMix
plugin.

Any clues out there as to how I might be able to figure out what's
going on with my server/Squeezebox2?

I'm running 6.5b1 nightly 2006-01-26 currently, but this also happened
to me with the 6.2.2 branch of code.

Thanks,
Kyle
