You might want to vote for this feature request if you have not done so

Muso cannot handle custom tags (yet, apart from the TrackStat
integration), but otherwise I think it displays the information in the
SBS database in a better way than the web UI. Have a look at how the
artist page is structured into several sections. First, it lists all
the albums where the artist is the album artist. In the next section it
lists all non VA albums where the artist is a track artist (duets and
guest appearances etc.). Then it lists all VA albums where the artist
is a track artist. The last section lists all albums where the artist
is the composer. Only the relevant tracks are shown in each section.
All information about album artist, track artists and composers are
shown as well as rating and track, album and disc length. You can by
one mouse click sort the list ascending or descending according to year
or album name. You can choose to show all tracks alphabetically. You can
play/add all songs by the artist, one song, one album or one disc in a
multi disc album.

All this was much improved during development so if you checked out an
early beta I recommend a revisit.

Another vote for muso.

I especially like that muso is able to show, really large, all cover
art (back, inside, booklet, CD, etc.) images stored in the same folder
as the files of an album. Very handy.

I made this feature request some time ago. I still think it is a good

As I said before, in this case the album artist is not shown in the

compilation tag).

This is on 7.5.3, i.e. MySQL. When I said track artist I meant an
artist (only) appearing (alone or with another artist) on an album with
a compilation 1 tag (and no album artist tag for the cases I checked). I
do not know what contributor role the artist has been assigned in the
SBS database. I have never understood the difference, if any, between
the artist and track artist roles. In genres I never really browse the
artist list, which I find superfluous, but rather go directly to all
albums (or use the shallow CB genre menu).

I have set the option to show only songs in the selected genre for an
artist.

The two examples I just checked with an artist only appearing on one
track on an album with an album artist set, one album with compilation
1 set and one without compilation tag, did not show up in the
appropriate genre artist list. Thus, it seems like only (what I call)
track artists show up in that list along with album artists on all
albums, with or without compilation 1 set. An album artist (a poet,
Nils Ferlin) only appearing as an album artist on one compilation 1
album (and as composer on several albums) showed up in that list but is
not shown in the standard "master" artist list.

This is all correct. But I have VA albums with songs/poems written by
poets that are not album artists themselves and I want them to show up
in the artist list so that I can easily find all versions of the poems.

The genre behaviour I am sure of (at least I see track artists from VA
albums; I have not checked for track artists appearing only on normal
albums). I have also compilation 1 set for all my VA albums.

I do this for tribute albums and similar. I would like the album artist
to show up in the artist list and the album to show up under VA.

I have noticed the compilation 0 behaviour and thought that the
different handling of 0 and null values was a bug. With AA and
compilation 0 the track artists were shown in the artist list (as well
as the album artist, if I remember correctly).

If an album has both an AA tag and a compilation tag, the album artist
will not show up in the artist list (at least not if you have set this
list to show only album artists). I have not tried your second example
but my guess is that there will be a VA entry in the artist list as
soon as one album has a compilation tag.

In the standard Genre/Pop menu I get a list of all track artists (not
just album artists).

Thanks, that did it.

I scanned my +115k library and 9,548 duplicates were found with the
default setting. When I clicked show duplicates SBS stalled (music
playing stopped, mysql at 50% CPU) and I left it that way overnight. No
change the morning after so I had to force SBS to quit. The same
happened when I after a restart of SBS tried showing the duplicates
again.

When I checked the show duplicates .txt file in the beginning of the
scan it worked and reported duplicates that were not duplicates (it was
perhaps only half a page of data then).

Log file is attached.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Need help to verify duplicate detection

2010-09-03 Thread vagskal

I just tried the plugin with the default setting. I only get Unable to
calculate checksum error messages. The web UI reports as many
duplicates as there are files detected. The .txt file for viewing the
duplicate files is empty.

I guess there must be something wrong.

No, since Frank Sinatra is not the track artist. For me it is enough if
I can find tribute albums under the artist celebrated although that
artist is not an actual contributor to that album.

I am doing this (i.e. setting an album artist for a VA album) for
tribute albums by various artists, Motown Celebrates Sinatra has for
example Frank Sinatra as album artist to have it show up under Frank
Sinatra as well as under VA.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Scanner Problem 7.4.2

2009-11-21 Thread vagskal

I got the same error after installing the new AVG Free 9.0 version.
Excluding the whole SBS cache directory in AVG did not help. I then
uninstalled AVG and switched to Avast instead. After that, scanning
works again.

Mp3Tag, or Foobar 2000, has been recommended, see around post 26 above.

I am quite sure that doing just this will not work when erland wants to
remove ID3v2 and keep the Vorbis comments.

An Mp3Tag expert recommended cut and paste tags for this situation in
the Mp3Tag forums:

Nope, that did not work either. Before deleting (or cutting) MP3TAG
reports "FLAC (FLAC ID3v2)" and after it reports "(ID3v2)" and no tags
are visible. After an undo (or paste) it is all back to how it was from
the beginning. I have set MP3TAG to delete all tags för mpeg, including
ID3v2. - I do not know how to use Foobar 2000 for this. Foobar only
reports the Vorbis comments and I do not know how to delete the ID3v2
part in Foobar.

Anyway, this was a useful thread. Andyg, may I ask what SBS will store
for album artist if there are conflicting TPE2 and TXXX ALBUMARTIST tags
in a mp3 file and the option to treat TPE2 as album artist is selected.
I ask because I found out that J. River MediaCenter automatically writes
both those tags and I may have altered only the TPE2 tag with other
software.

Thanks for the reply! I will definitely not do a wipe and rescan at
this time then.

Anyone know of a reliable tagging software - other than MP3TAG, which I
cannot get to work in this respect - capable of removing only the ID3v2
tags from flac files?

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] bug 8380 - read all mp3 tag versions

2009-10-27 Thread vagskal

I hope this is not too off topic since it relates to reading mp3 tag
data (ID3v2):

In the release notes for v. 7.4.1. I saw this:
> Re-added support for ID3v2 tags in FLAC files.

Could someone please explain what this means if a flac file contains
both Vorbis comments and ID3v2 data. For example, what happens if there
is a Vorbis comment ALBUMARTIST and a TPE2 ID3v2 tag with different
content?

I ask because I have some flac files for which MP3TAG reports that they
contain also ID3v2 data, but I cannot see the ID3v2 data in MP3TAG or
get rid of the ID3v2 part
(http://forums.mp3tag.de/index.php?showtopic=10330&st=0&gopid=40909&#entry40909
and http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=474060&postcount=28). I
am afraid that SBS now will read the ID3v2 data I cannot control.

An option to inspect which tags SBS is aware of would be welcome.

[SlimDevices: Beta] Firmware: Failed to download

2009-10-24 Thread vagskal

In my server.log (SBS 7.4.2 r28987 on Win XP) I get error messages like
this all the time.

Code:

  [09-10-24 13:14:49.1105] Slim::Utils::Firmware::downloadAsyncError (557)
Warning: Firmware: Failed to download
http://update.mysqueezebox.com/update/firmware/7.4.2/jive.version (404 Not
Found), will try again in 160 minutes.

I guess it is because there seems to be no .../7.4.2/... directory
yet... The Controller works OK though with SBS (I do not use SN).
