Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] New MySqueezebox.com (test.squeezenetwork.com) site layout
I just looked at the NP interface of Squeezeplay beta (see pic). Maybe the same or very similar layout for the SN Remote Control will work. This way there is consistency across Squeezeplay, the Controller and the SN Remote Control. No need to get used to the different players layouts that currently exist across the "official" interfaces. The track info in Squeezeplay scrolls across the top, but the album name can use a smaller font to fit long Artist/Album names. +---+ |Filename: RemoteCntl2.jpg | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=8176| +---+ -- tamanaco tamanaco's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4620 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67501 ___ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta

Yep, same here. _I_ have to say that I like the new layout much, much better than the old one. The old one was very crowded and I never really found my way through it. The new one is light, looks good and is actually pretty simple to navigate. I especially like the players overview. There may be some quirks but many less than before. Seeing that we're actual human beings, and not just some faceless corporation, we really appreciate that. ;) One thing I should point out to you guys: - For the first several weeks after launch, the majority of site visitors will be A) first-time Squeezebox owners who know nothing about our system other than what's on the box or in the Quick Start Guide (assuming they read it). A fair amount of education needs to be done regarding "Apps," and yes we're proud of them, and yes they are displayed pretty prominently on the home page. B) (NON-BETA TESTER) existing users who will suddenly wake up one morning and see a brand-new menu structure on their Squeezebox, with little or no explanation as to what the heck is going on (we are telling users there has been a "major upgrade" and to visit squeezenetwork.com. SN.com will redirect to a "what's new" page before sending them along to this new home page). So in both cases, the new home page is sort of the introduction to our "new" system and what the deal is with apps. Unlike you guys, most of these users will have no idea the range of things we now offer. The website won't stay this way forever. We'll get through xmas season, the traffic/sales will die down a bit, and most people will be familiar with the new system. At that point we'll definitely tone down, alter or even remove the bug "hero" area at the top of the home page. But for now, yeah this is a big change, and yeah we want to emphasize that with a large/prominent top section on the home page. If I'd known what functionality would be supported at this point when the design started, this feature might look quite different than it does right now. - The original design was much more compact (Just the album cover area with the transport control overlays and artist/album info). And, even when the design gets refactored, it will still be less than full-page size. The idea is to give the typical user an easy means to navigate away from the website while keeping the Web Remote Control within easy reach (the "pop-up" behavior keeps users from needing to manually open a new tab/window; the smaller size makes it possible to have the Remote open next to another browser window or application at the same time). - We definitely plan to add design and functionality improvements going forward. The redesign is just a new foundation; we can still keep building and making design improvements going forward. -- mweldon mweldon's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=20047 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67501 ___ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta

I don't really get this design. You're working within a small browser window, so if you need more room to display text and artwork without overlaying them, just make the window bigger. Also, the NP text being overlayed is much larger than it needs to be. The layout of the undocked window design from the default skin in the web interface makes more sense. A couple more minor styling issues: The 'Account Settings' and 'Change Password' forms don't use the same styling as the rest of the site, where each setting name is in bold text. There should be a little more space between the player 'Disconnect' and 'Delete' buttons. I also think the contrast between the disabled, grayed out buttons and the enabled buttons could be better. I might be in the minority here, but I also use SN to manage a remote SB3 that I gave my mother last year. She uses the SB3 exclusively with the Squeezenetwork as it'd be very difficult for her to manage her own SC server. Whenever I find an internet station or a services station that I know she'd like I can add it to her favorites remotely. I set the SB3 to use the largest font so that she can navigate her favorites menu easily and select the stations I have added for her. Sometimes I can quickly turn on her SB3 and tune it to the same station that I'm listening and spare her the trouble of having to navigate the menus to find the station herself. I might upgrade my SB3 to a Touch in the future, but I don't think the new Radio or the Touch would be a good fit for a user like herself. -- tamanaco tamanaco's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4620 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67501 ___ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta

Maybe is just me, but the only reason I visit SN is to interact with the player and view the info of the currently playing track. In this new design the Remote Control "appear" to be an after-thought. If I try to open it directly in the browser in full screen via http://www.test.squeezenetwork.com/player/playerControl the resulting layout in full screen is not very pretty. I'd have preferred something similar to the Slacker Web Player http://www.slacker.com/ As it currently stands the Player UI is a bit too simplistic and leaves a lot to be desired. Probably because is not finished yet. I know that the SN Home Page is there to advertise the availability of partner's services, but as a current client once I add the Apps and customize the settings per player (a rare event I hope) what's the incentive for me to visit the SN Home Page?... I was surprised that a.) it didn't crash Safari on iPod Touch, and b.) the animation on there was quite good too. I find myself using my netbook increasingly often, and very, very few netbooks have screens wider than 1024. The latest crop are actually smaller: 1024x600 used to be the norm, but now some major vendors are shipping 1024x576. Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] New MySqueezebox.com (test.squeezenetwork.com) site layout
Besides the little to large scrolling icons I think it's looking good. Much better than the old design a quantum leap I say !, it's functions is very well thought out too. I'm very pleased with it If you want criticism, imho the design is slanted at presenting "the new exciting offers from our partners" The main focus for me is that I want to use and admin my players, a little vague but it's the "feel" I get. And now in the spirit of this tread ;) I relieved by the fact that logitech realizes that they have invented the only shade of green that hurts, so they have removed much of the "logitech green" it from SN layout thank you. How about color themes to the web-UI for SBS sans that green ? -- Mnyb No it can NOT be controlled with iTunes Mnyb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4143 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67501 ___ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta

Hmm, what browser? Granted, I don't have a 1024-width screen (1280x1024) but it looks great to me. I'll try it on my netbook and see if it's usable at all. I've never bothered to look at the new SN redesign but now that I did, it really looks slick. What people expect of web sites is changing rapidly and shiny, slidey, roundy is "in" now -- providing it is usable. Seems to be working, at least on my system. I hope some of that polish moves back to the squeezebox server themes over time, where appropriate. Firefox 3.5 and Chrome (linux) here. [SlimDevices: Beta] New MySqueezebox.com (test.squeezenetwork.com) site layout
1. The Home page looks like it was drawn with crayons. Everything is gigantic. Logos, icons, fonts. A little too much white space also, which combined with the large page header and the giant scrolling service icons pushes the main page body down (and probably off for some people) screen. The other pages are fine in their font and icon sizing, but again the white space and large header take up too much space. I find myself scrolling some pages up a little to see the main content. 2. The pages are set in a fixed width, but it's about 30-40 pixels too wide to fit on a 1024 pixel wide display. You shouldn't have horizontal scroll bars at that size. -- JJZolx Jim JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67501 ___ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta
