Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Windows Firewall Inbound Rules

2011-07-16 Thread Mnyb

Do you keep the latest one ?

Afaik some firewalls and antivirus programs would consider a new
version of the same program a new program .
So the firewall rule would only apply to the exact version that where
installed or if you manually create rules, only to the exact version
you created it for.

However if SBS is autocreating rules it should also on install remove
old rules regarding squeexeboxserver, squeezecenter and slimserver et
al.

So me thinks that the creating of new rules is ok but it is the removal
of old rules that is missing ?

For every new nightly I install there is a new entry in the firewall
inbound rule. I think that you are right about removal of the old
rule(s).

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Windows Firewall Inbound Rules

2011-07-16 Thread JJZolx

Boy, that got a lot of attention.

Squeezebox Server's Windows installer is one of the worst, slowest, and
_dumbest_ Windows installer that I've ever used. I've installed
enterprise accounting packages in less time than it takes for the SBS
installer to do an update.

It's too dumb to check that things already exist and update them only
when necessary. Instead, it uninstalls and then reinstalls things like
Start menu items. It's probably doing the same thing with the firewall
rules, and either not checking or else unable to gauge the success of
interim operations.

[SlimDevices: Beta] Windows Firewall Inbound Rules

2010-09-15 Thread PSSO

Every time I install a new nightly (or the same nightly twice) the
installation creates a new entry in the Inbound Rules of the Windows
Firewall.
If I delete all but one of the entries things are still working fine.

Is this a bug?
