Here is what is installed on my music server.
Not sure how I got that VC 2010 package; looking at the dates Soluto
looks lika a candidate.

Also notice that SBS is still in the list; installed LMS ontop of it.

Both issues sorted with todays build.
- The installation performs uninstall to remove SBS, then install LMS
- The VC runtime warning did not appear.

2011-09-13 Thread frank1969

Just located the possible file in scanner.log - and the reason SEEMS to
be that file + path name had 251 characters - is there a new limit in
LMS that hasn't been in SBS? For SBS the file was fine ...

Tried to scan only the directory this file is in - scanner crashed.
Shortened the file name to about 220 characters - scanner ran fine.

Just running a full scan but it seems very much that long file name let
the scanner crash.

Maybe You could have a look at this? Thanks!

How long file path does SBS see ?

Is it drive letter or UNC ?

\\something\music... vs :C\music

Could you hit the windows 255 letter limit that way ? just a thought ?

It is the same that I see; the crash is in the classical section of my
library; with their notorius long names.

Longest path+name in the directory is 245

e:\music\Classical\Mahler, Gustav\Klaus Tennstedt\Mahler; The Complete

Worked fine for 7.6.x.

Hmm do you run SBS as a service requiring you to use UNC paths in the
SBS settings making it se 13 more characters ?

I know it's weird I had win pgms write file names to long for the files
to be moved to other drives.

It is a win limitation ntfs itself accept longer names and so does
linux and consequently many NAS boxes .

It can be strange when you write the file from a shorter path , and
tries to read it from a longer . Or rip with an OS that does not have
this limit MacOS or Linux but use windows as server and many other ways
to get it this way.

When ripping configure the ripper to not place to much info in the file
name . You have tags for the meta information .

I have no idea why it worked before ?

I don't know that much about windows programs, I know some can go
beyond that limit I don't know if it's good practice

http://vlaurie.com/computers2/Articles/filenames.htm

To be on the safe side 244 characters are suggested, I confess I don't
understand half of it

Shortened the path for my complete Mahler collection and the scanner are
still running.

Conclusion:
- Both internal and external scanner crash when path+filename is to
long. This should be handled with a nice error message in log letting
the scanner continue
- Filename and path unchanged and it worked in 7.6.x... something
changed in LSM?!
- During installation the C++ runtime complains because a newer version
is installed
