I think the search input bar could always be displayed in the header - no need to be clever and show/hide it with mouse-over. In some cases it could hide the page's title or require wrapping. Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] New Default skin
I'm mainly speaking about the addition of the OPML browser amd the direct editing of Favorites. Both functions are too confusing and unwieldy for the home page, Isn't the OPML browser optional, must be turned on in the Favorites plugin? And there's no direct editing of Favorites in the main menu. Editing of Favorites, whilst a necessity in my opinion does not sit well on the home page. You can't edit any other function on the home page like this so the edit icon on the Favorite title is unexpected and very easy to miss. Oh, you mean that button is direct editing? Again, I think this editing functionlity is best kept in Extras. So instead of having the Favorites item have a direct link to the edit page, you'd hide it in Extras? 1) Is drag and drop going to be implemented on the Remote menus? In the player settings? That's a good idea. But to make it complete this would need a lot of work (dragging new items to add, existing to remove them, too). So I'm not sure this is going to happen in 7.0, or whether we'll just limit it to sorting. Would be handy. Or did you mean dragging menus using the remote? ;-) 2) I'd be happier if Favorites.opml got saved in my Preferences folder. Currently mine is being saved under my Cache.. so if I delete it I loose my Favorites (I know it should be saved in Playlists.. and I can't see why it hasn't, as my playlist folder is writeable, but this seems the wrong place too). I think Playlist is the right place. Do you see any error message to why it can't be written there? Is the playlist folder within the music folder? When you do this I think it also would be good to consider moving some stuff into cmdwrappers and the other component template files which are re-usable. Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Favorites
I'm intruigued to know how it works though. The url added to favorites looks like db:album.titlesearch=IN%20RAINBOWS for Radioheads latest album. Yes, it's a valid URL type. Also, I went to a Greatest Hits album (one of many with the same album name), and indeed the link looks like db:album.titlesearch=GREATEST%20HITS. When I play this favorite, it correctly only plays the one Greatest Hit album, not all songs on any greatest hits album - how does that work? That's a limitation of using titles instead of IDs. But IDs wouldn't survive rescans... But then, can a Greatest Hits album be a personal favorite?!? ;-) There appear to be other places in the web UI that don't currently have add/remove favorites icons. Eg. Search results. Will have to check these. I've also noticed that if I go to an album display (Home Albums Greatest Hits), the favorite icon is always an add action; I never see the - for remove from favorites. But Windows is still an open request: http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1943 The server log file seems to suffer from a similar problem but grows more slowly (was a mere 0.25gb). I am logging at the default level and it can only be two or three weeks since I did a full reinstall of SC so it appears to grow pretty fast. Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Artist counting on album info screen
Joking aside, I don't understand your comment. Artist and albumartist are different contributor types. And as they aren't identical neither they're three different in this case. It's probably related to the VA searching issue I'm currently trying to understand: if I have a compilation with an album artist, and a track artist is identical to the album artist, they show up once. But if there's a track artist which is different, they show up twice. It thus makes sense to consider them different contributors. However, if Elvis made a guest appearance on one track on an Elvis Costello album where Elvis Costello is defined as the album artist on each track, or Elvis Costello happened to be the name of the Band that Elvis played in, then the count of the artists on the album should be either the number of artists on the album, or 1 for the album artist. Either way, but not both! What about the composer? Would you consider him a contributor or not? Maybe only the wording is wrong and we're not talking about Artists here, but Contributors. Or the count is wrong as it does not only count the Artist, but the other contributors too. Anyway we change it I'm sure people would complain, as eg. classical music often isn't catalogued by the artist (solist? orchestra? conductor?) but by the composer etc. Michael ___ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/beta
Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Scanner: Full clear and rescan doesn't clear
The log file had reached 1gb and was too large to look at so could get no info there. Please delete that file and try again. Or at least move it somewhere else. My library contains 1500 flac albums and I've noticed that when I action a full clear and rescan SC7 becomes unstable (locks up) for a long period of time before it starts actually scanning my music folders. I am guessing that it's clearing the database cache during this time. I think it's clearing the artwork cache, which is a bit more work to do than zapping a db table. Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Mapped network drive Windows UNC music path problem
Perhaps my attempts at humor were not understood or appreciated. Ahm... I interpreted it as a parody of what will be going on in our support department, sorry. Your _question_ has been drowned in too much humor, I guess. Yes, I do have my files on a network drive. Win XP? Yes. As a service? Um... I dunno. But it worked before. Can you start/stop SC7 from the tray icon (bottom right, left to the clock)? Then it's in application mode. If you don't see menu items to do so, then it's run as a service. Which means it's run _before_ you log on to Windows. Thus it doesn't know about your mapped drives (because they aren't mapped yet, and because it's not _you_ running it, but the system user). In SC7 there's a tool in the SqueezeCenter Start menu entry to change this behaviour. Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Artist counting on album info screen
ALBUMARTIST is imho mapped to BAND, as does eg. mp3tag as well. mp3tag is my main tag editor. The author did change a recent developer build (v2.39h) to make TPE2 map to ALBUMARTIST. However, this change was reverted a couple of days later (v2.39i). ALBUMARTIST is a TXXX frame. They are two different things. TXXX means no standard tag. It's whatever you want to call it. Create a MYVERYOWNTAG and it will be stored in TXXX. mp3tag is imho mapping ALBUMARTIST to BAND (TPE2) because it doesn't officially exist. See second (edited!) posting: http://www.anytag.de/forums/index.php?showtopic=6667 However, most software maps considers BAND to be the album artist for grouping and display, rather than a contributing band. Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] How to stop SC7?
I found Component Manager. Just to be sure: it's the service manager you need. Is it possible to run SqueezeCenter the way it was in version 6.x, controlling it from SlimTray? The short answer is: no. The long answer can be found in a thread where we were discussing pro and contra running SC as a service. As on Vista the user can't manage services any more we already had removed it from that menu in the case the user was running Vista. Now we decided to do it the right way, removing all those conditional menus, as it failed for some users on XP as well. It's a step backwards for some, but leads to less confusion for those encountering the issue (which often are less than power users). a Windows forum, but after reading about running SC as application vs service I'm not any wiser. Service: can't access your mapped drives, can't be managed by non privileged users, not at all in Vista; but it starts without the need to log on. App: need to log on, but sees the system as you see it, with all the mapped drives etc. I often have this MIP/SC startup order issue (and have read a few others do too) and would prefer to just start the two applications myself.
