[Bf-committers] Addons DXF-export and DXF-import ported to Blender 2.8x - commit rights question

2018-12-21 Thread Remigiusz Fiedler
Hi all,

I have just finished the initial port of DXF scripts to Blender 2.80
beta, and would like to commit it but without luck.
Do my commit rights from 2014 (mig...@gmx.net) have to be updated first?

[Bf-committers] missing contact to webmaster on blender.org

2018-02-08 Thread Remigiusz Fiedler
Hi,

I wanted to report about broken link on https://www.blender.org/download/:

https://www.blender.org/download/Blender2.79a/blender-2.79a-rc-windows32.zip
evaluating to:
https://ftp.halifax.rwth-aachen.de/blender/release/Blender2.79a/blender-2.79a-rc-windows32.zip

instead of:
http://ftp.halifax.rwth-aachen.de/blender/release/Blender2.79/blender-2.79a-rc-windows32.zip

Though I didn't find a dedicated link to webmaster on blender.org.
It seems there is no such information across the whole website.
Would it be possible to fix this?

Thanks,

[Bf-committers] Blender 2.71 needs VC2013-Redistributable on Windows

It seems Blender 2.71 does not run on older Windows (tested on XP)

We have to update the advise on the download page to:
If Blender reports an error on startup, please install the Visual C++

this is strange, but even with VC2013-Redistributable installed I am

[Bf-committers] replacement for DXF-importer script

2014-06-08 Thread Remigiusz Fiedler
hi,
a new DXF-importer based on dxfgrabber library is under development
by Lukas Treyer:
https://bitbucket.org/treyerl/io_import_scene_dxf/overview

He has been working on it since December and with minimal support from
me he was able to complete it quite well. I am going with him over
bugfix iterations and can confirm it very good level of completeness
and stability.
Lukas is going to continue the development and support bugfixing in
the future too. This is great!
I can recommend his version as replacement for the official (very
limited) importer for the next Blender release (2.71) and I will
upload it to main repository if you agree :)
DXF importer manual page on blender wiki will be updated shortly.

thanks

[Bf-committers] vrbuilder - valuable critique on Blender as a tool for architectural visualization

Hi,
just found it and would like to share with you:
this is a recently started blog with in-depth critique on Blender as a
tool for architectural visualization:

The most valuable thing is that he speaks about it in wide context.
I think the ideas listed there are worth to be discussed.

I suspect you are referencing this specific post...

No, I am referencing the whole blog, there are thoughts and ideas
spread all over.

I think some of his new user onboarding points are interesting
opportunities for improvements, though I'm not so on board with his
improvement ideas. I think most of this may be better discussed
 somewhere

I think the first place to discuss his ideas is his blog, not this mailing list.
Later, for summary I can add a new section to
http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Dev:Source/Development/Proposals/ArchiProject
or an extra page dedicated to Blender 2.6x exclusively.

Addons and translations were not intentionally excluded, just I didn't
get round to adding yet (will try do by next release),
then all previous work done will be added to the credits back to revision 1.

Re: [Bf-committers] Make Parent - shouldn't it work differently?

2012-09-21 Thread Remigiusz Fiedler
Hi Bartek,

there is a non-exposed(a shame!) feature in parenting routine:
For non-inverse-mode press Shift-Ctrl-P instead. This creates an
alternative parent-child-relationship where child-objects exist
entirely in parent coordinate system. This is the better choice for
CAD purposes for example.

Re: [Bf-committers] Make Parent - shouldn't it work differently?

2012-09-21 Thread Remigiusz Fiedler
oops, haven't read your post to the end

There is of-course the option to parent objects using Shift-Ctl-P. This creates
proper relation between A's transform properties and its visual
 transformations,
but it as well moves A to B's location and it's not always the desired
 result.

no, unfortunately not - it produces different results
I roll it back
- this works!

but parenting with
shift ctrl p
produces not exactly what we (CAD people) need:
it transfers child object to parent's coordinates system inclusive
child's xyz-orientation but dropping its xyz-location vector

Re: [Bf-committers] API: How to get a list of running scripts?

2012-04-12 Thread Remigiusz Fiedler
how about incrementing a global variable each frame?
Can a new instance wait one frame and then actually launch if the
value of the variable hasn't changed?

my scripts are triggered by Redraw not by Frame change, so i have
thought about time stamps and delay value checks, but it is not
reliable, because the idle periods may be unpredictable long.

Anyway, seems like I'm the only one responding to this thread, and I'm
in no way an expert... Have you tried to ask main developers in the
 IRC directly?

asked Campbell, and the answer is, 2.49 API doesn't support this.
Though it should be easy to extend - i have to look at
Blender.Scene.getScriptLinks() method.

As I've learned recently, in 2.63 (or maybe even 2.6+), there are
 bpy.app.handlers.scene_update_pre and
bpy.app.handlers.scene_update_post -- these event handlers are invoked
each frame (not sure if this behavior will persist, though). It's
possible to get the list of the handlers, so I guess in recent Blender
versions your idea can be implemented.

i am keeping my eyes on 2.6, but awaiting significant moves in UI+API
area after bmesh integration at first.

Re: [Bf-committers] API: How to get a list of running scripts?

2012-04-11 Thread Remigiusz Fiedler
Dima,
yes, i meant Python API,
and particularly 2.49 API.

Global variables (like Blender.myvariable) are perfect for
script-to-script communication but there seems to be no way to
update/delete them when the script cancels unexpectedly (by
user_cancel or by errors).

2012/4/11 Dima Glibitsky dima.g...@gmail.com:
Do you mean the Python API? Seems like it's not possible yet... But I
guess in your case, you can just have a global variable in the script
(or add some property to a WindowManager) and set it to True/False
 accordingly.
