Re: [Bibdesk-users] Selection window blocks the text

2007-10-15 Thread Christiaan Hofman
This cannot be solved. The completion list should be visually linked
to the item you're completing.

Re: [Bibdesk-users] Empty citation display window

2007-10-15 Thread Will Monroe
Thanks, Adam. After I updated Bibdesk using the link you provided
(http://bibdesk.demokratia.org/beta) everything worked fine. I can
now see the citations in addition to the group counts on the left pane!

I have a question though. I only download new versions of Bibdesk
when prompted by Bibdesk itself. Do I need to change something in
Bibdesk to ensure that I am downloading the correct updates? I've
never seen any setting in prefs to do that.

Also, FYI...

> - Does the problem occur if you try a different user account?
Yes, the problem did occur under other (even admin) accounts.
> - Do you use any hacks (e.g. APE)?
Not sure what APE is but I did install GCALDaemon http://
gcaldaemon.sourceforge.net/ I am not sure why it would effect the
display in Bibdesk though.
> - Do you have anything in ~/Library/InputManagers?
I didn't even have this directory.
> - Did the problem start after a software update?
I did install a firmware update from Apple for my Mac Pro.
Unfortunately I do not recall whether the problem began immediately
after that or not.

Thanks for your help. Bibdesk is a wonderful tool!

[Bibdesk-users] Feature: open imported references

2007-10-15 Thread François Briatte
Dear all,

When I import references from PubMed or the ISI, I generally open them
afterwards to edit the keywords and fit my own list of keywords, or to
tweak the cite-key.

I do this systematically; could a preference be implemented to open
the record of imported references immediately after import?

I solve this problem by creating a smart group called "imported
today" and another for "imported today or yesterday" in case there
are things I haven't got around to correcting/fixing. I suppose it
won't work if you do more than one import-session per day.

Indeed I do several imports per day, adding references along my
readings. I also have "Added J-0" and "Added J-1" groups!

Since you share my experience, do you think this feature would be relevant?

Make sure you have checked the "Edit imported publications after..." box in
BibDesk's General pref pane, and then drag-and-drop your references from the
search results to the Library (or other) group instead of using the "Import"
button. You'll then get an editor window for each pub.
