Hi,

disabling auto-save seems to solve my issue indeed. I had never realised it was
on actually!

Thanks,

I did not press ⌘-S or clicked File > Save though. Definitively not. You wrote
auto-saving above. I was not aware Bibdesk was doing that. Auto-saving the .bib?

[Bibdesk-users] Would there be a way to disable auto-completion in fields?

2024-04-24 Thread Luc Bourhis via Bibdesk-users
Hi,

when I create or edit an entry, auto-completion is very slow. I get the beach
ball for many seconds. Is there a way to disable the auto-completion? I don’t
really need it: I import 99% of the record from a file or the clipboard. I
don’t see any way to do that in the Preferences. Perhaps with the “defaults”
command? For the record, I have a library with 4000+ entries.

Best wishes,

Luc J Bourhis

Hi,

I see, thanks. Unfortunately, I have enabled Reduced Transparency in System
Preferences > Accessibility > Display, so changing the Desktop background
cannot change anything on my machine. But indeed disabling that, and setting
the Desktop background as entirely black increases the contrast between the
numbers and their background. I don’t know if there is any connection but Mail
displays more legible count badges.

Best wishes,

Luc

[Bibdesk-users] Barely legible count badges

Hi,

I have just noticed that the counts are barely legible. I am sure it was ok a
short while ago: I have now 1.8.15 (6104), and MacOS 11.7.4.

[Bibdesk-users] Mathjax in HTML templates?

2022-08-27 Thread Luc Bourhis via Bibdesk-users
Hi,

I am wondering whether the rendering of HTML templates allows Javascript to
run. I am talking about the window showed in the picture below. If it does,
then I want to try to add Mathjax to the template to render equations nicely.
And hopefully faster than the TeX preview.

[Bibdesk-users] Smart group for incomplete publications?

2021-09-30 Thread Luc Bourhis via Bibdesk-users
Hi,

I could not find a way to make such a group. As it stands the Database > Select
Incomplete Publications is not that useful if one has many of those in the
database: opening all the selections is too much whereas keeping only one
selected to open it means one has to do the search again and again. I thought
of using a Script group but I could not find a way to select incomplete
publications with AppleScript either.

Best wishes,

Luc Bourhis

Hi Christiaan,

actually, it does work fine sometimes but other times, I just get a blank
document icon instead of a proper thumbnail. Sorry, I should have mentioned
that! I did not spot a relevant difference between the PDF for which it works
and those for which it doesn’t. I’ll pay more attention.

Re: [Bibdesk-users] Thumbnail after adding PDF and autofiling

2020-07-18 Thread Luc Bourhis via Bibdesk-users
Hi Jason,

sure. My script takes a DOI from the clipboard, then add a new record as well
as grabbing the PDF from sci-hub. The latter part is done with a Ruby script.
Unfortunately it sometimes fail, in which case, I just open the sci-hub page in
Safari, and then I get the PDF manually, and drop it in the newly created
Bibdesk entry. You could easily edit my script to always do that. Here is the
Applescript part. Notice that I rely on the Applescript library _string. It can
still be found thanks to the wayback machine at
https://web.archive.org/web/20170816081647/http://applescript.bratis-lover.net/library/string/

I have a similar script automatically creating entries from an arxiv number
(this is a preprint server very popular with mathematicians and physicists).

Luc

[Bibdesk-users] Thumbnail after adding PDF and autofiling

2020-07-13 Thread Luc Bourhis via Bibdesk-users
Hi,

I have an AppleScript executing the following statements

add (POSIX file pdf) to beginning of linked files
auto file

It works perfectly except that the thumbnail is not generated. I am talking
about that which appears in the item windown and in the right panel of the main
window. I get a generic white document icon instead. Right-clicking on it and
choosing “Reload” does create the thumbnail fine. It would be nice if the
script was able to do that without my intervention!

Version 1.7.7 on MacOS 10.14.6.

Best wishes,

[Bibdesk-users] Feature request: remove file on disk when removing link

2020-06-12 Thread Luc Bourhis via Bibdesk-users
Hi,

it would be sweet if BibDesk would propose to remove the actual file on disk
when one removes a link from a record. It happens every now and then that
either I filed the wrong file, or more often that I want to replace a preprint
by a later version or the published one. Currently, I have to remove the link,
add the new one, then use “Reveal in Finder” and remove the old one. A bit
tedious.

Best wishes,

[Bibdesk-users] Crash with applescript on 1.7.5

2020-04-02 Thread Luc Bourhis via Bibdesk-users
Hi,

the attached Applescript, which has worked fine for over a year, now
systematically crashes. I also attached the stack trace. That Applescript
relies on some Ruby script I haven’t attached. Please tell me if you want that
too.

Best wishes,

[Bibdesk-users] Auto-completion when adding new fields not working properly

2019-04-11 Thread Luc Bourhis via Bibdesk-users
Hi,

When using the menu Publication > Add Field…, and start typing the field I want
to add, the auto-completion does not quite work as it should I think. The first
character typed triggers a completion but then it does not adjust on the
subsequent typed characters. I often find myself to add Crossref for example,
and I always get Chapter filled in that field. Please watch the movie here

 if it is not clear.

Best wishes,

Luc J Bourhis

[Bibdesk-users] BibLaTeX new fields

2018-07-14 Thread Luc Bourhis via Bibdesk-users
Hi,

I use BibDesk with biber to generate the TeX preview and it works great. The
only annoyance is to do with the new fields allowed by BibLaTeX. Case in point
for me: the article entry type. I use it to file preprints, and I then use the
fields “eprint", “eprintclass" and “eprinttype" (or their alias “primaryclass"
and “archiveprefix" for arxiv compatibility). They do not appear in the
dropdown menu brought by “Add Fields…” and I therefore need to type them. Is
there a way for users to add fields to that menu or is that something only you,
the author, can do? If the latter, could you consider adding the BibLaTeX
fields? Perhaps not by default but by first adding a checkbox in the
preferences to let the user request that feature.

As always, thanks for your great work,
Best wishes,

Luc J. Bourhis

Re: [Bibdesk-users] Thumbnail generation broken on High Sierra

2018-07-03 Thread Luc Bourhis via Bibdesk-users
Hi,

Oh, I see! Somehow the %e disappeared from the file name template used by
autofile. Looks like I did something stupid while moving the settings to the
new computer…

Thanks a bunch!
