There is a male Dickcissel continuing to sing from an uncut hayfield south of

Directions: Mud Street/Fly Road to Campden Road. Go south to the end. Turn
right (west) on Twenty Mile Road. Pass both the Comfort Farm houses and barns
on the left (south) The field driveway is across from the last barn and before
the hydro towers that cross the road. There are quite a few Bobolinks,
E.Meadowlarks, Savanna Sparrows, and Kingbirds too.
The Red-headed woodpeckers have relocated this year to the small woodlot
right in the Village of Campden. They are using a backyard feeder at 3578
Campden Road (not visible from the road) but I have seen them perched in the
dead trees just at the back of the driveways there.

2013-02-10 Thread Nancy Smith
Good Morning! The Red-headed Woodpecker is still visiting the feeder at 3196
Campden Road. He appeared to be caching peanuts in a tree just north of the
house, returning regularly for more than 10 minutes until I left at about 10:45
this morning. Just north of there on the corner of Bethesda Road there were at
least 10 Lapland Longspurs with a small group of Snow Buntings and Horned
Larks. There were also a couple of Titmice visting my feeders at 2939 Campden
Road ( just south of the Woodpecker location ) Nice birding on a fine
morning!

Directions: QEW Niagara, exit Victoria Ave. ( Reg. 24 ) Vineland, head south,
up the escarpment to Fly Rd. ( stoplight ) turn rt., then go left on Campden
Road. Once out of the village, Bethesda Road is the first "country" crossroad.
Check the roadsides for the Longspurs. Continue south to Young Street, 3196
is the first house past there on the west side of Campden Rd.

[Ontbirds] Red-headed Woodpecker-Vineland

2013-01-10 Thread Nancy Smith
Hello and Happy New Year Everyone! A Red-headed Woodpecker has been coming to
my neighbour's feeder at 3196 Campden Road , Vineland, apparently for almost a
week. I saw him for the first time this morning at about 8:30. The feeder is
easily seen with binos on the front railing of the home and now there is a
hanging suet feeder as well. The homeowners, Judy and Marvin are friendly but
not birders and do not want the bird disturbed so please observe only from the
road. This spot is just east of the Hamilton circle according to the great map
provided by Peter Scholtens, but assuming his territory includes the small bush
to the west of the house, he's probably sometimes a Hamilton bird! lol
These birds did breed in this particular bush this past summer! Enjoy!

Nancy Smith RR#l Campden Rd., Vineland

Directions: QEW Niagara, exit Victoria Ave. ( Reg. 24 ) head south through
Vineland, continuing up the mountain, at the light turn right on Fly Road then
left on Campden Road. The house is on the west side of Campden Road just south
of Young Street.
