Re: [Blind-Computing] follow up to MSE question

2010-01-18 Thread David
Hello there;

when MSE is protecting your computer, when you go to the system tray, you
should see, computer protected.
when the MSE scan is in progress, you should see, scanning.

maybe, you didn't save the changes when you went to the change scan
schedule link.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Question for David griffith

2010-01-18 Thread David Griffith
Sorry I have only just seen this post.

The question about converting password protected PDF documents depends on
the level of protection in the PDF documents. The crucial issue is whether
the PDF is set up with rights to print the document. If print permission is
enabled then this conversion method should work. If print document is
disabled it will not. The easy way to check is to see if you can print the
document. If you can then you should be able to select the Microsoft
document Writer and you will be away.

Hi David griffith,
On the matter of converting PDF documents you mention using Microsoft
office. My question is does this work with password protected documents?

God bless,

Re: [Blind-Computing] Locating and Removing Headings in Word 2000

2010-01-18 Thread David Griffith

You can do this by using the format button on the find replace dialogue box.

1 . press control H for find and replace.
2. Press alt M to bring up more options.
3 . tab to the format button and then cursor down to style and press enter.

Now you will be in a special find replace dialogue box where you can select
the style attributes . If you cursor down you will find all the available
heading styles.

Hope that helps.

Good Evening,

Could some kind person please tell me how to locate and remove all the
headings in a Word 2000 document? I seem to have inadvertently created them

and would like to clean up the document. There shouldn't be any headings at

all.

I'm running JAWS 9 and 10 and XP Home with SP 3.

Re: [Blind-Computing] system to go

2010-01-18 Thread Chris Hallsworth
NVDA portable works under Windows 7, with the exception that programs
that require higher level access than the standard user account will not
speak. They will however with the installed copy. They will also speak
if you set the notification level of user account control to 0% and
restart your computer. It's this user account control that can force
programs to run at a higher level. But I don't look at this as a
disadvantage as I'm a main JAWS user but use NVDA as a backup.

I am afraid this is not correct. The best that can be achieved on an XP
machine is a start up auto play dialogue box which should have start NVDA
highlighted. Pressing enter though should start NVDA.
Users of Vista will often have problems if Vista attempts to scan the USB
pen. Generally the advice is to use Narrator to try and get around this to
start NVDA from the USB drive.
I have also heard that the NVDA portable start up does not work in Windows 7
but I have no direct experience of this.

If you want a guaranteed startup of NVDA without the need to press any keys
this can be achieved by putting the portable NVDA files and the relevant
autorun.inf on a CD. I have successfully accessed several vista machines
this way . You do not have to do anything, just put the CD in and wait for
NVDA to start. This can take a little while, depending on the speed of the
machine.

What I ment to ask is concerning the portable versions. If I have them on a
flash drive, do I just plug in the flash drive and then it will start
talking? This question is in reference to NVDA?

Pretty similar to JAWS.
You can try it by going to
www.satogo.com
One difference is that you must be connected to the Internet for it to work.

[Blind-Computing] My Normal.dot May Be Corrupted

2010-01-18 Thread Margaret Thomas
Good Afternoon All,

I have 652 ~WRL*.tmp and ~WRD*.tmp files in My Documents and I think
normal.dot may be corrupted.

I performed disk maintenance this morning and all 652 were still there still
there afterwards. I deleted normal.bat and all of them are still there.
I've rebooted more than once. I'd like to try to get this straightened out
before upgrading from Office to Office 2007.

I'm running JAWS 9 and 10 on XP Home with SP 3 and would be extremely
grateful for any solutions for getting rid of these pesky critters.

Thanks,

Margaret

Hi,

Have you tried simply deleting all of the files including normal.dot? if
normal.dot is deleted, then you reopen word, a new file will be created.
