Thanks, but I turned this setting off before I received any email. I always
prefer my messages to pop up in a separate window. Wow, I can imagine how
much worse it could have been if this is considered an improvement!

I urge all Windows Live Mail users to call freedom Scientific Tech Support
and let them know about your struggles. Let them know that Outlook is not
your prefered email client and you would like for their supplied scripts to
work proply.

I mentioned a setting which makes the Live Mail work much better but I
left out a step.

Don, I'm sorry about that.

1. Press Alt V for the View menu:
2. Press L for the Layout submenu:
3. Locate the check box for the Reading Pane and uncheck that box.
4. Tab to Okay and press Enter to close the menu.

Mike,

Is this for xp users?

I kind of don't have the same thing showing on the task bar as you said
here..

Would this work to get rid of the, safely remove hardware item that no
matter how many times I go through that thang to safely remove hardware and
I get the bling sound telling me it's ok to safely remove hardware, but
there it stays in the system tray, never leaving..

Here are a couple of things which have improved with that simple change.

1. When you press the Delete key, the message disappears immediately as
it does with Outlook express.
2. The view now goes directly to any message when you click on the

Those 2 improvements alone, were worth the effort.

As you recommended, I minimized all applications, shut down Windows Live
Mail, restarted Jaws and the difference was remarkable.

Yeah, this comes up occasionally on this list. Freedom Scientific has
paid little attention to fixing the Windows Live Mail scripts that are
just modified Outlook Express scripts. They just say it should be taken
care of in the update later this month. They would not even take down or
listen to specifics. I hope they at least do not throw out my email,
listing my issues. That was in January!

I think your current annoyance is due to the fact that JAWS sees the note
portion of the message as a browser and switches to the virtual cursor.
Before you type, press Space to turn on Forms Mode. It gets worse,
because JAWS gets confused if you switch to other windows and back to
continue typing. It may still be in Forms Mode or it may decide not to
let you do anything! If this happens, I just minimize all windows with
Windows + D, and unload JAWS and restart JAWS again.

For some reason, JAWS 11 is unusable with Windows Live Mail for me. JAWS
10 works much better on my computer. I switch to 10 just to read my
mail.

Suddenly, and here's the issue, when I tried to read what I had just

Finally, I gave up and shut down the computer. I'm using Windows 7 Home

2010-03-28 Thread John_Justice
My comments were a simple, harmless observation not intended as
criticism of you or Rick. However, I just learned that Verizon, at least,
will now require both a cell phone program and a data program on many of
their newer multi-functional models. . Rick's point is noted. Yet I have
little time or inclination to bother the "management" regarding such a
non-confrontational issue. I was thinking of quoting Shakespeare here but
it would serve no purpose other than to twist a tiger's tail.

Hi John,
This is something that, according to the list guidelines should have been
sent to the management team,
but since you posted it here, I will answer here, and then we will bring
this one to a close on-list.
If the discussion pertains to cel phones being connected to the computer
for setup or data transfer, then it is computer related.
However, if the discussion is focused on the use of the phones themselves,
it is off-topic for the list.
There are many devices these days that could be referred to as computers
of

sorts,
but they do not fall into the guidelines for this list.
People using those types of devices, should seek out lists that are geared
for that type of discussion.
Blind-computing by design, is limited to the personal computer and it's
peripherals
and this in itself covers a very wide range of topics.
The guidelines will stand as is.
Thank you for your input, and if anyone has questions or concerns about how
the list is being run, then contact the management team.

Rick,
With all due respect, today's cell phones such as the ATC Ozone are
definitely Windows based and many carriers now require that you arrange
for a data service as well as a cell phone service. As such, may I
suggest that you might want to consider expanding your definitions to
include these types of phones since they are definitely computer related.

does with Outlook express.
2. The view now goes directly to any message when you click on the relative
folder.

I switch to 10 just to read my mail.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Using Talks

2010-03-28 Thread Moderator

Hi John,
This is something that, according to the list guidelines should have been
sent to the management team,
but since you posted it here, I will answer here, and then we will bring
this one to a close on-list.

If the discussion pertains to cel phones being connected to the computer
for setup or data transfer, then it is computer related.
However, if the discussion is focused on the use of the phones themselves,
it is off-topic for the list.
There are many devices these days that could be referred to as computers of
sorts,

but they do not fall into the guidelines for this list.

[Blind-Computing] SOUND CARD CHOKING

2010-03-28 Thread John_Justice
For the record, I'm using a Sound Blaster 5 USB sound card and an HP 550
notebook computer. When I used the e-mail program or sometimes, even document
software like word, my Jaws chokes up and doesn't pronounce the complete word
or doesn't say anything at all. here's what I have tried so far.

1. When I use the computer on its internal sound card, it seems to work fine.

2. I tried changing the USB to make sure that it was linked to a 2.0 port but
that made no difference at all.

What could be causing my sound card to choke like that?
When I use the Say All command, that doesn't happen. It occurs only when I'm
typing in data.
Is there some kind of Jaws setting I should change?

6. Tab until you hear the list-contacts.

7. Arrow up or down to select the recipient-name you want from the list of

Re: [Blind-Computing] system tray icons

2010-03-28 Thread John_Justice
Anna, the system tray icons usually disappear when the program they are
referring to is no longer active. You may already know this but the system
tray is simply a sub-window which shows the computer operator exactly which
programs are currently active at any one time. The contents of the tray
changes regularly.

Is hide inactive icons checked at all? If so they should be unchecked.
It's in the taskbar page of taskbar and start menu properties, accessed
