People using those types of devices, should seek out lists that are geared for that type of discussion. Blind-computing by design, is limited to the personal computer and it's peripherals and this in itself covers a very wide range of topics. The guidelines will stand as is. [Blind-Computing] SOUND CARD CHOKING
For the record, I'm using a Sound Blaster 5 USB sound card and an HP 550 notebook computer. When I used the e-mail program or sometimes, even document software like word, my Jaws chokes up and doesn't pronounce the complete word or doesn't say anything at all. here's what I have tried so far. 1. When I use the computer on its internal sound card, it seems to work fine. 2. I tried changing the USB to make sure that it was linked to a 2.0 port but that made no difference at all. What could be causing my sound card to choke like that? When I use the Say All command, that doesn't happen. It occurs only when I'm typing in data. Is there some kind of Jaws setting I should change? [Blind-Computing] WINDOWS LIVE MAIL WHIGS OUT
I was wondering if anyone else has had this experience and can give me some pointers. I have recently downloaded Windows Live Mail which is supposed to be the modern equivalent of Outlook Express. On Saturday, I opened the program and tried to read and respond to my messages as normal. But everything I typed got scrambled and ended up in the strangest places. Normally, when you respond to a message, your reply is entered at the top of the page and after you have finished typing, the earlier message appears immediately below what you have typed. Suddenly, and here's the issue, when I tried to read what I had just entered, part of the message was in one place, while other sections appeared somewhere else. If I can put it mildly, it was maddening. Finally, I gave up and shut down the computer. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium, Jaws 11 and an HP Professional notebook Model 550. does anyone know what could cause that kind of situation? Re: [Blind-Computing] adding to start menu
Kim, that is true of Windows XP but I don't think it applies to Windows 7. In the case of Windows 7, I believe the correct link is "pin to start menu" or something like that. Re: [Blind-Computing] system tray icons
Anna, the system tray icons usually disappear when the program they are referring to is no longer active. You may already know this but the system tray is simply a sub-window which shows the computer operator exactly which programs are currently active at any one time. The contents of the tray changes regularly.
