Re: [Blind-Computing] Digital Talking Book Player - Library Guide intext format

2010-05-05 Thread Bill Gallik
Did you all know that if you do not insert a book cartridge in the player
and push ANY of the buttons the function of said button is described in
detail for you?

And, again if you do not insert a book cartridge, if you press the play
button and keep it pressed for several seconds the user guide will be read
to you?

Just thought you should know -- if you don't.

[Blind-Computing] settings for student word and other questions

2010-05-05 Thread lloydfuge352

Hi,

Recently I purchased the student Word program and am having trouble with it.
1 are there settings which would make it easier to operate, where could I
find such suggestions?

2 when I try to open files made in word pad, this program tries to open them
and is very slow at it; is there some way to turn this student Word program
off when I am working in Word Pad?

Thanks for any help and for any direction to a tutorial on this program.

I am using XP, and Jaws 11.

Thanks,

Lloyd

I've been shopping online at Shoprite for several years. Although I had
minor problems on and off, I've always been able to solve them by trial
and
error and getting help from this list. Now, I've encountered a problem and
I

don't know if its a JAWS problem or the website. When I get to the home
page, I can click on a link to take me to the next page where I again
click

on a link which takes me to the Shoprite in my area. Now, that's where the
problem comes in. No matter what link I click on, e.g. log-in, shopping,
etc. I go nowhere. When I place something in a search box and press the
go

button, I find myself still sitting at the go button. I'm so frustrated
because I can't get my order in for this week. I used the site last week
with no problem. Can some one please help with some suggestions. If it's
the
site, how come I can get to the third page, but no further. Any help will
be

greatly appreciated. Thanks.

[Blind-Computing] Acronis or Norton?

2010-05-05 Thread Peter Torpey
I want to purchase a program for making a disk image/backup of my computer.

I've been using Acronis True Image, but this isn't very JAWS friendly. I'm
wondering if the Norton Ghost program (or whatever it is) will work better
with JAWS.

Thus, should I upgrade to the newer version of Acronis or jump ship and
purchase the Norton version? Perhaps there is another program which does
this?

I realize that Windows 7 has an imaging program, but you can't pull isolated
files from this backup - Only the entire image can be retrieved.

Thanks for any advice.

Hi, Francis,

I just went on the site and didn't have a problem going down the links. It's
possible that it could be an issue with Jaws. I'm using an older version of

Re: [Blind-Computing] Blind Cooltech Website

2010-05-05 Thread Jacob Kruger
Just tested/tried it out, and it worked alright with windows XP, jaws 11 and
IE8, but when I hit jaws key + F7 to bring up a list of links on the
homepage, I see there are like 1435 links on that page, so it's possible
it's just taking a bit long to populate the virtual buffer on your side...?

Try letting the page load for a little longer and see if it starts reading
page automatically itsself, and try things like initially tabbing link to
link before hitting that keystroke, and then just wait a little while as
well.

I have been trying to access the Blind Cooltech website for a couple of
weeks now and find that I cannot scroll through the links. My JAWS program
seems to fail or the speech takes a long time to come through. Has anybody
on this list had the same problems?

If you are using Windows 7 then an image backup facility is available
right out of the box and is fully accessible. It's part of Backup and
Restore Centre. It was made available in Vista, but only in Enterprise
and Ultimate. Now it's included in every edition of Windows 7.

I've heard Image For Windows works great with JAWS.
I have not tried it myself though.
I don't think Norton Ghost is accessible, but I've not tried it.

I want to purchase a program for making a disk image/backup of my

computer.

I've been using Acronis True Image, but this isn't very JAWS friendly.

I'm
wondering if the Norton Ghost program (or whatever it is) will work
better

with JAWS.

Thus, should I upgrade to the newer version of Acronis or jump ship and
purchase the Norton version? Perhaps there is another program which does
this?

I realize that Windows 7 has an imaging program, but you can't pull

isolated

files from this backup - Only the entire image can be retrieved.

Thanks for any advice.

Oops, I just read the original thread, and sorry for mentioning Windows
7's image backup feature.
