Re: [Blind-Computing] am I aloud to ask computer relayedquestiononthis list

2010-06-16 Thread Hamid Aitouznag
That's a clear symptom of a virus residing in your system. Unfortunately
this kind of misbehavior is caused mainly by some kind of malware
planting an autorun file in your machine; i bet all your drives not just
the C drive will behave the same way. Sometimes, you can remove the
autorun files manually, however, most of the times, you can not do that,
you need to get a good antiVirus or antiMalware to do that for you.

Note that autoruns are spread out mainly via USB drives, so be very
careful using them on your system.

I've been using a great program which is called autorunRemover and it
made my system really safe from those autoruns for a very long time.

Good luck!

By the way, you still can open your drives by tabbing once while in the
list view of My computer to the address bar, then type the following:

c:
presse enter
press shift tab once, you'll land on the list view of your c drive. It's
just a way to get around the autorun file not being excecuted.

Re: [Blind-Computing] can someone please help me regarding my laptop and the C:drive.

2010-06-16 Thread Hamid Aitouznag
First, when you get the dialog asking you to choose which program to
use, arrow down to internet explorer and tab till you reach a checkBox
that says: always use this program to open similar applications or
something like that, check it and tab to ok and press enter.
If the drive opens, press alt+f4 to close it again and retry opening it.
If it opens without any problems then you got it! otherwise, proceed
again with the above steps and this time while in the list view of the c
drive, go and display the hidden files in the folder options dialog
under tools.

Then, check if there is a file called autorun.inf and remove it
manually, do the same with all your drives and restarte the computer. if
the problem persists, then you need something more accurate like a nice
antivirus and/or antimalware, personally i have been using
autorunremover and microsoft essentials for my system's security and
have been working quiet fine on my machine...

Hope that helps...

Re: [Blind-Computing] "windows Security Alert"

2010-06-16 Thread Ishe Chinyoka

Hi,
To remove the notification from your system tray, simply go to the control
panel, Taskbar and Start Menu properties.
On the Taskbar page, tab to "Notification Area Hide inactive icons": make
sure that this is checked.

Tab to "Notification area Customise..." and press the spacebar.
From the window that will appear, you will see a list of all icons that are

appearing, that once appeared and those that may appear on your system tray.
Move to the one that's bothering you: when you are at it, you will hear its
text or string spoken, followed by something like: "hide when inactive".

Here, press your right arrow: a group of options will pop up.
Move to one of the options like "always hide" using your down or up arrow
keys.

Since you want to remove this text, I assume you will choose "always hide".
After this, Tab to OK to close this window; tab to OK once again to close
the Taskbar and Start menu properties dialog.

Hope this helps a bit.

Cheers

Re: [Blind-Computing] Finding the total run time of a group of songs

2010-06-16 Thread Patricia

Are you using windows media player?

Maybe look in the library or think in the burn menu. I never saw so many
things before. I did come across a statics button it was a drop down and had
to press alt v to see what it had, there was something prertaining to videos
and how long they have ran, which I had 100 something checked.
I know this is probably useless information for you, but hmmm, thought all
that was kind of interesting if I had any inklin' as to how to do it,lol

It restores your shell32 dll file if it was corrupted. It just registers
all shell32 DLL according to their factory settings.

I am glad it worked for you.

Re: [Blind-Computing] regarding my computer

2010-06-16 Thread Ishe Chinyoka
The question of which antivirus works best for you is controversial, but I
think AVG is not that bad. I assume you refer to its accessibility by
"working".

Why not first try their free edition before considering buying one?
As far as I can tell, almost every antivirus that claims to work does so
based on viruses that it detected. One antivirus may detect some common
viruses but fail on less common ones: such an antivirus program is not
reliable. But then it seems as if all antivirus programs are like that.
Just try it and see if you like their free edition: but best computer
practices are better than antiviurs programs. After all prevention is better
than cure: an an antivirus program should be just to help you with cleaning
some pests, but avoid risky behaviour in the first place.
Such actions as downloading and installing files, opening flash discs,
running executable attachments, opening macros in Office documents, etc, are
some cases. These are necessary actions but then do them on files from
trusted sourcess. As for discs, for instance, you may consider disabling the
autoplay and autorun feature on your computer.

Take care

what I like about eudora at least for me, is when I am in my mail box
and I want to read the message I hit the tab key and I am ableo to
read it fine and dandy.
however, if I hit enter to open it. I get allot of rubbish like mime
number or whatever and a ton of other junk.

Can I have it sit to where I like it?

Re: [Blind-Computing] JSay verses jTools

2010-06-16 Thread Bill Gallik

Annette,

Have you considered using a secondary sound device for your JAWS output?
For example, you can buy a Turtle Beach USB sound device and configure JAWS
to speak through that device. I'd suspect that you could then use
headphones with the USB sound device to listen to JAWS while the native
sound card would be free to process Dragon input.

The Turtle Beach USB sound device is quite reasonably priced -- around $15
or so.

Hi,
Here's what I do using my current opporating system.
I focus on the song of choice, remove focus from the song by pressing CTRL
space bar or the F 5 key.
Now with the selection removed, I press the windows application key
to activate the menu and arrow down to sort by and right arrow into the sub
menue.
I then press enter on the more dot dot dot choice and arrow down and check
all of the appropriate boxes of details that I would like to be announced
and one of them is length. I tab to the ok button and when I arrow to a
song, I press jaws key eight to read current line or capsloc I to read
current line and it will read the details of the song that I selected in the
more dot dot dot option under sort by.
