The context menu, and normal menus work fine in 0.86, but, yes, in 1.1 that
downloaded just now, they don't seem to be really usable at all...

I asked this question earlier in another group. the response I recieved is
not only is it menu driven but it is also easily navigated by the
application key which pulls up the context menu. I uninstalled it because I
thought it was inaccessible. I have not had the opportunity to reinstall
and check out the context menu choices yet. HTH

I've downloaded VLC, but cannot seem to get around in any menus. How
exactly should I go about playing a DVD? I have XP Pro and use JAWS 8 or
10 depending on what program I am trying to use.

Thanks,

Hello all!
Want an accessible DVD and media player? Look no further than VLC Media
Player! You can select what part of the DVD you want to play simply by
using the VLC Media Player menus. No inaccessible DVD menu to navigate;
just select what you want from the user interface. You can even select
an audio described track if you have one.
You can download this free and open source program from
www.videolan.org. It even works with Windows 7 so you don't have to use
Windows Media Player, which is good but does not have an accessible DVD
player.

Enjoy!

[Blind-Computing] help with recording, vista

2010-09-12 Thread Elaine
Hi guys

Could someone please tell me how to hear what I'm recording in vista?

I had to format my computer and now cant appear to playback anything from line
in.

I know there was a way as I had it set up before, but cant seem to figure out
how to do this.

can any one help?

I've managed to set goldwave up to record but now all of a sudden it's stopped
recording, I've checked the cables and they are plugged in, so I need to know
if my computer is picking up any audio.

thanks in advance

Yes, Magic and ZoomText can allow you to point to text and have it spoken
out. If you do not need screen enlargement, take a look at products put out
by Premier Software at URL:

Readingmadeeasy.com

I think there is another product called Text to Speech. These are both
products that are designed for people who have learning disabilities.
Another product to check out in this same category is WynnWizard from
Freedom Scientific.

Re: [Blind-Computing] updates ready

2010-09-12 Thread David

Hello there;

if your hearing updates are ready for your computer,
navigate to the system tray,
insert+f11,

you should see the updates are ready for your computer.

you can either,

enter on the updates,
or, you could use the tab key, and tab until you hear, double click, just
press enter.

now, you will probably land on the express install,
however, if you wanted to check to see which updates were available, you
could tab to the custom button, press enter.

now a list of updates would be shown.
by default, they're all checked.
once you've read all the updates,
tab install. enter.

hope this helps.

 Hi Pete;

Try doing the following in IE. IE7 & IE8 might vary a little bit but,
 once
you get in there you'll gitur done.
In IE do an Alt+T, down arrow to pop up sub menu, If pop up blocker is
active, then hit enter to inactivate pop ups. This setting is a toggle.
There are other settings in this menu if you need these additional
 settings.
 Hope this helps. Take care.

Yes, the numeric key lock should be off but, the slash, left mouse click
button, that Chris is referring to is directly above, / on top of, the
numeric 8 key. Hope this helps. Take care.

Hi Yvonne;

Chris meant the " slash " key. It is on the top row of your number pad.
Here is how your top row of your number pad is layed out from left to
right.
1. First key on the left is your num lock key, this turns your number pad
on
/ off.
2. The 2nd key from the left is the slash key. It is called the num pad
slash key by keyboard help. This key is the same as clicking the left
mouse
button.
3. The 3rd button from the left is the star key. It is called the num
pad

star key by keyboard help. pressing this key is the same as clicking the
right mouse button.
4. The 4th / last key from the left is the minus key. It is called num
pad
minus by keyboard help. This key activates the Jaws cursor.

Hope this has helped. Take care.

[Blind-Computing] Intermittent Sound On Youtube

2010-09-12 Thread Gerald Levy

Hi listers. Lately, I have been experiencing intermittent sound on
Youtube.com. Whenever I listen to a song or video, the sound will start
playing for about 20 seconds, then pause for about 5 seconds, then resume
playing for another 20 seconds or so, then pause again and so on. I experience
this problem with both IE 8 and Firefox 3.6.9 using XP Pro and JAWS 9. Once in
a while, a selection will play from beginning to end without interuption, but
this is uncommon. For a song that lasts two and a half minutes, there will
typically be three or four interruptions. Has anyone else experienced this
problem and have any idea how to fix it? Thanks.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Excellent DVD Player!

2010-09-12 Thread Don Marang
I think all VLC users and potential users should send an email to VLC to let
them know it is great software, but it's accessibility is not consistent
between versions. Let them know which versions work reasonably well and
which versions are useless. In VLC, the interface seems to be architected
to be separated from the functionality. I think they have several interface
skins that they switch around and tinker with for each release. For our
community, it would be nice if they provided an accessible skin that stayed
accessible and probably consistent in each version. Of course, there needs
to be an easy way to select the accessible interface.

Do you have a copy of the accessible 0.8 version available to share if it is
not on the standard download webpage? Posting a link to a file in your
DropBox or SendSpace.com would work.

Hello all!
Want an accessible DVD and media player? Look no further than VLC Media
Player! You can select what part of the DVD you want to play simply by
using the VLC Media Player menus. No inaccessible DVD menu to navigate;
just select what you want from the user interface. You can even select
an audio described track if you have one.
You can download this free and open source program from
www.videolan.org. It even works with Windows 7 so you don't have to use
Windows Media Player, which is good but does not have an accessible DVD
player.

Enjoy!

Font Size On-The-Fly

When you're working on a document, it can be tedious to constantly have to
adjust font sizes manually. Or perhaps you're working on a project with various

needs, you can easily increase or decrease font sizes in Microsoft Office
applications. Highlight the text and press CTRL-SHIFT-< to make the font

[Blind-Computing] creating powerpoint presentation on blindness, what about windows movie maker?

2010-09-12 Thread heather kd5cbl
Hay guys, I am creating a powerpoint presentation on blindness for meet the
blind month in October. I was wondering if anyone has or know where I can
get a hold of the logo of the NFB with the outline of the person with a long
white cane. I wanted to use it when talking about the NFB. I could not find
it on their site anymore and there used to be a stock photo somewhere but
cant find it either! I thought of scanning my pen with kurwzeil1000 but, it
look distorted. Any ideas? Also I wanted to know if any has experience
with windows movie maker for presentations? I listen to one while in school
and wondered if it was easier than jaws with powerpoint? Apparently you can
do voice over for the presentation instead of trying to remember what the
slides are. Thank you Heather
