Yvonne If you don't use any of the additional keys on your keyboard then you could uninstall the netropa software. But before uninstalling make sure you have the driver cd for your keyboard just in case you find that any key doesn't work for any reason, then obviously you would need to re-install. Re: [Blind-Computing] My Defrag program question
Hi Jim; Below is information I found that will answer the question about the error message. wrote in message news:Email removed for privacy... I am running Windows XP Home, SP3. I recently tried to install a program (MyDefrag). When the setup program had finished installing I got an error message as follows: "Unable to execute file: C:\WINDOWS\system32\Schtasks.exe . . . The system cannot find the file specified." I have searched my C drive thorougly, and the system32 file in particular, and I do no have "Schtasks.exe" on my computer. Do I need this file? Where could I obtain a copy? I have spent a good deal of time searching the web and the Microsoft web pages, but I have not been able to get a definitive answer to my questions. I ran system file checker to no avail. Thanks Schtasks.exe is a Windows file that, as its name implies is needed to run scheduled tasks. Presumably that defrag program you installed has scheduled a task to run a defrag at some intervals and when that is called for you get the message. You should have a spare copy in the folder C:\I386 (if that was installed) or, if you updated your Windows to a later service pack, the most recent version will be in the folder C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386 Search your hard drive for schtasks.exe, but to ber sure you find all instances, first, in Control panel, folder options, view tab, Check show hidden files and folders uncheck hide extensiuons for known file types uncheck hide protected operating system files (answer yes or OK on any warning message) cclick apply, OK. Then in Search, more advaced options, check the first three boxes. If you find the file copy it to your system32 folder. wrote in message news:Email removed for privacy... In my first reply I forgot to mention that if you cannot find the file on your drive, you should be able to copy it from the I386 folder on your Windows installation CD (assuming you have that). wrote in message news:Email removed for privacy... Toying with the program, I have an interesting thought. Looking at the recovery options there is an automatic function and you can designate a backup disk file. If this would work as I think recovery could be two step process that would bring you up to the previous evening. First I would make backup dvds on a monthly or by-monthly schedule and a hd backup nightly. I have been toying with the backup to my second hd drive and set the program to turn the computer off when finished. I have been doing this about 11:30 PM. Now my thought is with a crash use the dvds as David described. Now follow with an automatic recovery from the last hd backup file. I think it would work but do not want to do a recovery until actually required. Any thoughts? --- Please visit my home page, it is motivational, educational, inspirational with a touch of humor. Dave asks: "you said you had problems with your windows mail, what were the problems?" There are two issues here: 1) My original Windows Mail component (I presume) lost a key DLL because it couldn't interact with my account(s) information. When I'd try to send an e-mail it would just hang forever (or so it seemed) and would eventually tell me (the OS I presume here) that the program was going to respond. It then asked me if (the OS again I presume) if I wanted to repair the problem. To which, naturally, I eventually answered in the affirmative. Then . . . 2) This no good, damn excuse of an e-mail client (Windows Live Mail) was downloaded and installed on my PC in lieu of Windows Mail (Outlook Express). Then if that wasn't bad enough, I got an innocent enough message one bright morning asking me if I wanted to upgrade my Windows Live Mail; to which, naturally, I answered in the affirmative. Now I have this absolutely crazy interface, can't get to my contacts data, can't do all sorts of things that I used to be able to do like forwarding an e-mail message as an attachment (unless I save the targeted message as a file and attach it to a new message that way).
