anything for I. E. There weretwo updates that I was never notified. One for
silverlight and the other the sp1. Am I missing a setting somewhere? I am
using win 7 32 bit.

[Blind-Computing] Is anyone a MAC user

2011-02-27 Thread Linda Mumford
Is anyone out there a MAC user? I need to get a new laptop computer and I have
read that the MAC comes with it's own screen reader, that Apple automatically
updates it, and there is no fee like JAWS charges for its new software
versions. What I don't know is:
1. Is the MAC user friendly for a blind person?
2. Is there scanning software that is compatible with the MAC (I currently use
Open Book, but this is not compatible with the MAC.

Any and all advice including pros and cons would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Linda Mumford

Agreed there is no fee like jaws charges. However a Mac book is quite
expensive. In the end right now at least it is comparable to buying a
windows based machine and jaws. The speech however is very good. I have a
sighted friend who has an older one and it sounded good when she tested it.

 Hi John;
 1. Press Windows key + R, to open the run dialog box.
 2. Type "msconfig", without the quotes, into the run dialog box.
 3. Press Control + Tab, until you land on the Startup Page. After
msconfig
is opened I'm pretty sure it is 5, controltabs.
 4. Arrow down this list but, pay really close attention to what Jaws
reads

to you. I would suggest that you slow down your reading rate.
 5. If you find the item you are looking for, and it's checked, press the
 spacebar to uncheck it.
 6. Tab to okay, press enter, & press yes on reboot the computer.
 7. When the computer restarts, it's going to read some message about
selective starting mode. Tab 1 time to " don't show this message "
checkbox, press the spacebar to check this box, & tab 1 more time to okay
&
 press enter.

 Hope this helps. Take care.

Now that you found the msconfig, alt tab until you hear start-up. arrow
down to the program you want to remove and uncheck the box. note: be
careful
not to uncheck any windows components or things you're not familiar with,
because you can remove important files that makes your pc run.
After you've unchecked the program you want to remove, tab down and hit
ok. It will then ask you to reboot.

Thanks for the explanation. At least I now know what it relates to. I

As for Silverlite...It seems to be an optional update for Windows that,
according to some on another List, does not seem useful for JAWS users.
