Ok, if you look in control panel, for something like sound and volume
adjustment, that might do it, but can't remember offhand the name of something
to put in like run dialogue, but you can also double check the system tray icon
listing - jaws key + F11 to see if the icon for volume control is in there,
etc., but if you go via the control panel, then there's a checkbox option on
the dialogue - and might have named it wrong since been a little while since
last specifically looked for it in XP - that tells windows to display one in
the system tray, but anyway.

If you want, you can however try using the run dialogue - windows key + R, and
then in there, type in sndvol and hit enter, and think it will also bring up
sound/volume control/mixer.

[Blind-Computing] networking windows 7 with XP

2011-08-15 Thread David Ferrin
I've got the deal where by I can network either read only or read / write
directories on windows 7 with XP. It crossed my mind yesterday to try and
figure out if it is possible to only share selected directories with certain
systems. For example only share a specific directory with my lap top and the
same with my XP tower. This would be in effect a further step toward locking
down the network. Granted my router has a 20 digit password so anybody who gets
in there is pretty sharp so far as that goes. I just wondered is all if that
were something possible.

This is probably why they offer entire courses in networking and the fact is I
am flying in the face of the unknown.

If anybody out there has further information regarding this subject please
share it so to speak. I might just post the documentation I already have on the
server for others to benefit from.

2011-08-15 Thread Jacob Kruger
Although doesn't really count, I have relatively recently connected someone's
windowsXP PC to my windows7 64 bit machine using a crossover/twisted pair
network cable, and on both machines we specifically just made sure they were
both using TCPIP, with the same subnet mask, and assigned them relatively
similar virtual IP addresses (not too sure that's the right terminology, but it
means made one of them 192.168.1.100 and the other 192.168.1.101 since those
are IP addresses that don't really get used in real world), and then on both
machines, selected a specific folder and on something like tools menu in
windows explorer told them to render as shared, and made some changes to
sharing permissions, and then we could copy files backwards and forwards using
something like run \\machineName\folderName on both of them, but this was a
rather temporary, quickfix idea and don't honestly remember too many details,
but, think it was making use of TCPIP4 or thereabouts, and it did work, but
anyway.

Interesting approach, unfortunately that wouldn't be practical here because
of the physical layout of our house. This is just something I am trying to
take to the next level although I don't need to do it at this point. I

I'm so happy to hear that other JAWS users are having trouble with the new
Pro Super Anti-Spyware! It installed the new version several days ago when
I checked for updates after it hadn't done the usual daily scan for a couple
days. I was finally able to schedule a daily scan for my preferred time,
but I couldn't tell it to let me do manual complete scans when I wanted and
not to do them automatically. The closest I could come was to let it do
them one day a week.

Does anyone know if with version 5 (Pro) for the item to quarantine and
remove items does it remove them or put them in the quarantine vault so one
can double check them before removing them?

I was able to get the new Pro version to work with JAWS 10, but it was a
bit easier with 12.

If you use the link for the old interface, will SAS still update new
definitions etc.?

  Thanks,

  Hi David,

The SAS 5.0 version is somewhat accessible, as we have both found out, but
only if you are running Jaws11 or 12. It is not accessible with any
earlier
versions. Also, we have both learned that about the only part that is
accessible is configuring scanning & programming schedules, but even doing
these tasks' takes a lot of work using both the Jaws & PC cursors & left,
  right, up, & down arrowing.
Hopefully they will make the rest of the Interface accessible
as well.

Take care.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Changing Default Line Spacing In Word 2010

2011-08-15 Thread kimsan
Look in the home ribbon under line and paragraph spacing. If you would like
to get there quicker, when in word press alt H followed by K.
After arriving to the line and paragraph spacing, shift tab until you hear
line spacing options... and press enter.
You will now be placed in a spin box where you can change it. Use your up
and down arrow keys until you get to what you want, which in this case is 1.
After making the selection, tab to the save as default button and press
space bar. An ok button will pop up so press jaws key B to read the message
of the dialog. If you do not feel like reading the dialog message, I will
tell you what it says. It will ask you if you would like to make the change
to the current document or for all documents. So, tab from the ok button and
the radio buttons will be there for you to select. After you arrowed to the
option you wanted, which would be the one where you want it to apply to all
documents, press enter or tab to the ok button and press space bar. you can
now ride off into the sun set happily.
If you would like to confirm the changes, press jaws key F or alt H followed
by K. When doing the latter, you should arrow up to 1.0, which it will land
there by default and if it says checked, then you are good to go.

Take care.

2011-08-15 Thread Mike & Barbara In Arcadia
Hi Bob,

I believe it's the Malwarebytes program that is being asked about. Take
care.

I have just installed the Malware program to give it a
whirl. I was prompted to register or decline (chose the
later) I see there is also a choice to purchase and then
register? How long does the trial version last or is this
the type program where the free version works well but the
paid has more bells & whistles? The initial quick scan
  produced a clean report

  thanks
  Al

Take care.

My current default for line spacing in Word 2010 seems to be at about 1 and
a half or maybe even two. Where and how can I get my default set to one?

Re: [Blind-Computing] windows media player

2011-08-15 Thread Rosemarie Chavarria

Hi, Yvonne,

I'm not sure how to help you with the thumb drive issues but if I
remember correctly, you go to set access and defaults to make windows
media player the default player. I think what you do is hit space bar on
the customize button and then check the box for making windows media
player your default player.

Hope this is somewhat helpful.
