Re: [Blind-Computing] Spellchecking in Notepad
Sure thing. It's something I had to learn when I took the job of writing prayer requests and emailing them out for my church. I told them that I would take the ministry, but that I would need to upgrade to a full form of my speech program jaws, and that I needed a smell checker because I couldn't spell to save my life. One of the men on the board, a banker said, well, I think we should buy this for you. I laughed at them and said, no you don't. You don't realize how much jaws is going to cost, why don't you just buy the word program for me and that will be plenty. When in outlook express, and in a message body which you are composing, you just hit f7 to spell check. I think that's right, it's either f5 or f7, but I think f5 is check for messages, while f7 is the spellcheck command once you have word installed, it just uses words capabilities. Of course, I'm out-dated with windows xp, and all, so I don't know what you have going on there. [Blind-Computing] Editing a Contact in Windows Live Mail 2011
Good Morning, I didn't have any problem editing the contact information in the address book in Outlook Express, but trying to do it in Windows Live Mail 2011 on my 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium machine using JAWS 12 has me wanting to bang my head on the desk. I'm hoping some kind soul might be able to provide some instructions. I've been pressing Control-3 from the message list view and arrowing down to the contact I want to edit. I've tried using the edit contact in the context menu that comes up after pressing the Windows application key and edit contact in the ribbons. The other day I managed to get to where I could edit the contact's name, but, for the life of me, couldn't find a way of editing the e-mail address. I couldn't even edit the name this morning. I've spent over four hours trying and have thrown in the towel. There's probably something very simple that I'm just missing and will kick myself all around the block when I learn the secret. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Margaret For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

Re: [Blind-Computing] Editing a Contact in Windows Live Mail 2011
Graham, Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! That did the trick! Being able to edit contacts brings up a couple of follow-up questions. I think I heard somewhere that using nicknames, especially where there were multiple contacts with the same first name was a good idea in WLM 2011. I did a couple in the contact information and the nickname seems to be listed before the first name. I'm not used to hearing it this way and was wondering if there is a way of hearing them after the first and last names for the contact? It isn't a big thing and I can learn to live with if it's the way WLM2011 works. It's minor compared to the other problems I have at this point. Of much greater importance is that when my tech got my Outlook Express address book into WLM2011, it is all scrambled up and some items don't have names and only have e-mail addresses, or are missing last names, have nicknames and addresses, but no names and other problems that will need fixing. I've heard that this is a bug in WLM 2011. I've got complicated instructions that are supposed to at least semi-automatically unscramble the contact list, but there are less than 60 names and some of them are correct, so I thought I'd try correcting it manually. The way the contact list came out I don't recognize some of the items since they only have e-mail addresses. Is there some fairly easy way of getting my Outlook Express address book into a text or .doc/.docx document or something so I'll have the names, e-mail addresses, and nicknames (if any) for a contact in one line and can easily figure out who is who and get it on the windows 7 computer? Hello Mike, Notepad does not have a spell checking option. If you are a Jaws user, you can use HJ pad. HJ Pad is a text editor that is shipped with Jaws that does have a spell checker. Re: [Blind-Computing] Editing a Contact in Windows Live Mail 2011
I may have found some instructions that will allow me to have my OE address book as a text file that I can use to manually unscramble my WLM 2011 contacts list. From a Dummies Daily e-mail from Oct.23, 2001: You may be wondering whether you can print a copy of your Outlook Express Address Book. Not directly. But you can create a plain old text list of the addresses from your Outlook Express Address Book, and print that text document (or copy the text document into a word processing document, fancy up the formatting, and then print it). 1. Choose File, Export, Address Book. The Address Book Export Tool dialog box appears. 2. From the list of options, select Text File. The next dialog appears, asking where you want to save the exported file. 3. Click the Browse button and find the folder where you want the file and give it a name. The next dialog box appears where you can select which fields you want to export. 4. Put a check mark next to each field you want to appear in the text file. At a minimum, you probably want the person's name and e-mail address to appear. Whatever fields you choose will appear in the text file separated by commas. 5. Click the Finish button. The text document awaits you in the folder you created it in. If I can do it, I think I'll be able to attach it as a .txt file and send it to myself since one of my e-mail addresses is usable on both the XP Home and the Win 7 machine. My external drive may be my friend if I can get it to cooperate in the project. Margaret Earlier, I wrote: *** Graham, Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! That did the trick! Re: [Blind-Computing] Editing a Contact in Windows Live Mail 2011
Hi Margaret, What I do to save my Outlook Express address book as a, .TXT file, for my own purposes, not for importing or exporting is., as follows. 1. Open your Outlook Express address book. 2. Tab 1 time to get into the list of entries. 3. Press, control + A, to select all. 4. Open Notepad / a new Text file, paste the contents from the clipboard into the text file now, name it save it. Doing it this way for personal use is simple it only copies the fields that have information in them. You can navigate the text file with your arrow keys or, use the Jaws find feature to find a specific entry. Hope this helped. Take care. [Blind-Computing] goldwave question
Hi, I'm not going to pretend I use gold wave but I am fixing to teach myself how to use it based on tutorials from the blind-computing site. However, I just wanna do something real quick before I dive into the mp3's and internet research. Is it possible or duable to use gold wave and take a song where the only time they sing is during the chorus and the main part is instrumental out? Wht I mean is the song plays, the chorus plays, then you hear just music until the chorus back. I just want the part where there is no singing, so I can use it for a ring tone. I hope that made sense. If that did make sense, if it can be done, how do I do it? Thanks. For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

[Blind-Computing] MS OutLook 2010 trick
Hi I just figured out the coolest keystroke for JAWS 13 and MS OutLook 2010. When one opens the MS OutLook 2010 program one problem is knowing how many messages are in a folder. If one presses insert plus page down it reads the bottom line of the screen. This line tells how many messages are in the folder and how many of these are unread. During a send and receive it lets you know how many messages are being downloaded. I hope this information helps someone. God bless, Mark God Loves you! Re: [Blind-Computing] Editing a Contact in Windows Live Mail 2011
Windows Live Mail seems to be a very different animal. I've encountered what I thought is exactly what you're running into except that I started using Select All in any given field, cutting it out, then saving (pasting) the contents of the save to a notepad session. Then, going into Notepad and pasting that data to that application, I was able to edit the particular field at will -- but you need to leave your cursor in the Windows Live Mail contact edit at the location where you got the editted info in the first place. Then, from Notepad, make desired changes, Select the new value and cut it from the Notepad session and returning to Windows Live Mail to paste the new information in that field. The other thing you mentioned is you're having difficulty getting focus on the correct contact; seems you are there but when you go to select edit another contact comes up, right? Well, just keep bankging on the SPACE Bar, and repeatedldy route the JAWS Key to the PC Key and visa versa. I don't know which try works, but it seems to get true focus on the correct contact.
