Re: [Blind-Computing] WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO MICROSOFT SECURITY ESSENTIALS
Bob, Thanks for the prompt response. My main computer is a 64 bit system. Could that have anything to do with this? I just found that I still have Microsoft Security Essentials on my 32 bit laptop. I imagine that confirms what you said in your message. The odd thing is, I couldn't find the program on my C drive. I guess I'll have to download it again. Thanks again. Recently, when I tried to use my Desktop shortcut to reach Microsoft Security Essentials, I got a message indicating that the link was no longer valid because the program had been deleted or moved. I checked on my main C drive and there was no folder for that program, even in the 86 folder. Yet, something is still scanning my system regularly and there are links indicating changing the scan schedule, full or quick scan and so on. The only thing I can think of is that Microsoft replaced Security Essentials with something else. It seems to be working but that does concern me a bit. My research indicates that it has been replaced by something called Windows Defender. Is this right? Does anyone know anything about this program? I thought that it was just a basic anti-virus program at one time but there seems to be anti-malware elements and the virus definitions are being updated. Any help would be most welcome.
