[Blind-Computing] Free avast update with jaws?

2012-06-03 Thread Carliss
Listers,

I updated from avast6 free version to avast7 free version, and it appears
that jaws doesn't work with avast7 free version. please let me know if I'm
right about this?

I don't know, maybe free avast version6 is the last free version that will
work with Jaws. If that's the case, maybe I'll go back to version6. I'm
also open for ideas.

Thanks to all.

Carliss

Hi Pedro,

I don't use a laptop computer but, i have read somewhere that there
might be a button or switch that turns on your wireless card.
Hopefully someone will expand upon this & get you pointed in the right
direction. Also, what brand / model laptop is it? Take care.

 Hi all. I just purchased a 64 bit laptop which has Windows Seven. I
am not able to go online with this machine but have no problem doing
so with my
32
bit desktop machine.
 Could it be the router?
 The routher I am currently using is set up for hard-wired and
wireless connections but prior to this, I have only used the wireless
connection with a Mac.
 I should also say that I've had this Net-gear router for several
years; long before 64 bit machines came out.
 Any thoughts on this matter would be appreciated.

[Blind-Computing] Programs In Windows 8

2012-06-03 Thread Rick Justice
For those interested in Windows 8,
Keep in mind that this is the Consumer Preview,
but I have tried the following programs, which seem to work just fine,
considering that the latest build of Jaws is not designed for Windows 8.

ClassicShell3.50
Replaces the Metro UI with the classic Windows UI.

CleanUp451
Clean up utility written for XP, but also works in Windows 7.

LockNote
For creating password protected text files
No surprise that this works, it doesn't take an install.

replicator3.6.8.
Karen's replicator, for backing up files,
which was written for pre-Windows 7, but works anyway.

I have a utility to remove the Metro UI from Windows 8 and replace it with
the Windows 7 UI,
but haven't been able to get it to work so far.
The above listed programs with the exception of the program to disable the
Metro UI, can be found on the directory page at:

Rick Justice

[Blind-Computing] Bookshare-related questions

2012-06-03 Thread susan
Hi listers,
I may ultimately have to go to Bookshare with this one, but thought I would try
on the list first. I’m basically wondering how to best read Daisy TTS
books.Since the Victor software is no longer being developed and since I don’t
really like the one TTS voice I have, I’m not sure whether it is better to add
the other voices or to try to use the Amis player. I have actually downloaded
the Amis player to experiment and find that it does not seem to recognize Daisy
books with the newer .bks extension, though it found the titles I saved with
the older unpack tool. Hope this makes sense. Would appreciate any help on
sorting this out.

Re: [Blind-Computing] reinstating windows clipboard

2012-06-03 Thread susan

David,
I had basically tried your suggestion without result. I finally resorted to
a system restore and the regular clipboard is now back. By the way, a Google
search on this topic proved very frustrating since all the posts I found
showed how to get to the office clipboard even when it was implied that the
intent was to reverse the process. Ah, the mysteries of these beasties,
smile.

Hello try this;

1, open MSWord;

2, alt+h=home,
3, now tab until you hear;
Office clipboard,
Press the enter key this should turn it off.
If you however press the spacebar,
You will see some different options.
Or try;
While in word,
Alt+h=home,
Now down arrow until you hear;
Office clipboardmenu,
Press the enter key.
This should turn it off.

Let me know if this helps.

Does anyone know how to use Google Drive on the web to see your files?

Hi Nam,
 I have found that on some websites with drop down menus that I need to
use the JAWS cursor in IE 8 to access the menu. Now then, when I installed
IE 9 the drop down menu could not be found with the JAWS cursor. Other than
that IE 9 works wonderful with JAWS 13.

Another way would be directly in Winamp: go CTRL+P to preferences, arrow to
"file types", then by tabbing you'll find various buttons to select all,
audio only, video only etc; so press the "all" button and that should select
all supported files.
