Re: [Blind-Computing] Google Chrome question
Hi Brad I'm testing Google Crom out right now and it is awesome. It works very well on Facebook. - Original Message - From: "Brad Dunse" To: Sent: Thursday, April 11, 2013 5:30 PM Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] Google Chrome question I've noticed that earlier versions of Jaws reads things V14 won't. I wonder if that is the issue? Jaws cursor reads absolutely nothing on the screen. I might have to call tech support to find out why. So far, I really like Chrome's responsiveness. I actually had to use it today. I needed to update my extentions, which wouldn't update just by pressing enter. You might already know this, but you can force a link to open by pressing control+enter, or shift+enter. On 4/11/2013 3:27 PM, Brad Dunse wrote: Thanks Ariel. Are you able to use the Jaws cursor to read the screen if needed? Maybe with Chrome it's not necessary, but with the other browsers there's been times I needed to click a button or right click a link where the enter key and apps key respectively wouldn't' execute. I haven't had any problems with it. It's my everyday browser. I've used Firefox before, but I don't like it. It's sort of slow at times, stops working, other times JAWS stops responding. IE was alright, but I wouldn't go back. I'm quite satisfied with Chrome. On 4/11/2013 1:10 PM, Brad Dunse wrote: Thanks for your reply. Part of the problem though of running older browsers is vulnerability to security issues. My last computer found its death by nasties that got in, not necessarily form a browser security hole. At any rate I'm not too in favor of leaving any holes if possible, even at the cost of some accessibility. Firefox works "some of the time" without hanging, but it's unpredictable. I could try looking to see if I missed removing any add-ons other than my security software add-ons and see if that helps. I actually used Chrome today to finish placing my on-line business orders and it ran flawlessly ;D. Very responsive and stable. Explorer crashed no less than 5-times in a half an hour. I use to swear by Firefox, my wife too. She was directed by the IT department at work to use Chrome as it is the most secure and stable at this point. Granted she is sighted, but I know there are folks using screen readers with Chrome, apparently successfully. I had the same issue with Firefox, but it's pretty much history for me at least until bugs are worked out, so I don't much care at the moment. Any help on Chrome tweaks or tips are greatly appreciate
Re: [Blind-Computing] blackboard assessability
Hi when I was in College I used blackboard and it worked fine with jaws which was about 5 years ago. - Original Message - From: "Jamie Seeger" To: Sent: Thursday, March 21, 2013 8:49 AM Subject: [Blind-Computing] blackboard assessability Hi, I am thinking of going back to school to obtain a master degree on-line. I see many of the universities use Blackboard to host their on-line content. I am wondering if this interface is accessible for one using a screen reader? I am using a windows 7 home premium 64 bit system. I have Jaws, System Access, and NVDA as screen readers I can use. If the program is accessible are there any tips in navigating the program? I thank you for any information in this matter. Re: [Blind-Computing] Flash
Hi you don't need to unload jaws. I have had this problem before uninstall your adobe flash player that you currently have and then reinstall 11. - Original Message - From: "Deb Caldbeck" To: Sent: Wednesday, February 27, 2013 3:27 PM Subject: [Blind-Computing] Flash Using XP SP3, JAWS 12. Was installing Flash 11 today. It got to the 50% mark and then told me to close the following programs. I closed IE 8 and Outlook. I then retried, and it insisted I close the program. Gave me a graphic number but not the name of a program. When I hit insert, alt, delete it says the install Flash is the only thing running. Do I have to unload JAWS? Never have had to before.
