Re: [Blind-Computing] Reading Tables in MS Word with Jaws

2012-10-03 Thread Nikolay Todorov

Hello,

Firstly, I am not a JAWS user, but since I am with low vision, I use the
keyboard alot.

So say you go to cell A1 (row 1 column 1) and want to move to the next cell,
you press the TAB key. When you reach the last cell
(last row last column) and you press a TAB key, Word will open a blank row
for you bellow the last one, with the number of cells equal to those

of the last one.

The left and down arrow key are not of an use because it doesn't move a cell
to the left or down, just a character left and a line down.

If you have trouble using the TAB key due to a key confilict you may use as
well (alt down=tab and alt up=shift tab) for the tables.

Nikolay

Hi
The MS Word document is an application form. Thus, I am wondering if
one can then fill in the form in Excel, and copy it back in to the MS Word

Thank you.

Personally, I find using tables in word to be awkward and tedious. My
solution is to go to excel and open a new worksheet; go to the table in
word

select all and copy (Control a, Control c); then paste this into to the
excel workbook you have opened. The same table you had in word will appear
in the columns in your excel worksheet. I find an excel table far easier
to

use then a word table.

Then when I put the student version of Office 2007 in (which

Re: [Blind-Computing] Dos Command

2011-09-09 Thread Nikolay Todorov

Right,
that is even better, because you can later review the file and read it
carefully. What is also possible is to activate Notepad or another text
editor correctly installed by typing its name followed by the file name as a
parameter.

For example
c:
cd \
dir out.txt
notepad out.txt

or

help out.txt
notepad out.txt

What it does not do with me, it doesn't bring me directly to the notepad
window, I should go there by ALT+TAB.

Oh yes, and remember you can still use the symbol to redirect output to
something like a text file for later review, so, something like:

help commands.txt

would in fact send all that output to a text file in the current directory
called commands.txt which you could then review later.

Hi Mike,

thank you very mach for your nice words. A technical note if I may say, it
is not DOS it is windows command prompt commands we are talking about. True
they resembel DOS once because Windows is an OS next to DOS. However, there
are more than DOS commands, I mean some that were not present in the DOS
times for example move whiche moves a file from place to place or simply
renames files.

In order to make sure you know how a command acts you may also type
COMMANDNAME /?
for example
move /?

Here I list some commands that were defenately not available in DOS
Ping ip address/host name checks if another device with passed ip address
or host name is present.

Tracert ipaddress/hostname shows the root to reach a device
Xcopy source location target location copies a folder with all its
contents to the target. Available in DOS as an external command.

and mach more.

Re: [Blind-Computing] tables in word 2003

2011-09-08 Thread Nikolay Todorov

Hi everyone,

I am afraid there is no function that may convert a table from a portrait to
a landscape page.
Here is how it owrks: if you create a new talbe the width of the table is
set to be equal to the wriable area of the page.
That setting is made just at the moment you create the table. If you modify
it, so change the width of a column / cell, the talble may
be smaller than the writable area or may go into the margin. So if you
change the layout of the page so go from A4 to A5 or A3 or to
letter format, or from portrait to landscape, that doesn't mean that the
table layout will be automatically changed.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Managing notes and course material

Hello All,

I am going to be taking a training later this week in which I have been
given the very large document of course materials in an accessible PDF.
The
course instructor quickly moves through the material sequentially but
only
talks about specific items in the material that are either new, or best
support the topic being discussed. I would love to be able to follow
along
in the PDF and then be able to make notes that correspond to the item
the
instructor is highlighting. This is an annual training that I am
required
to attend each year, so in the past I've tried following along in the
PDF
and then ALT+TAB to write notes in the open Word doc, and I've also
tried
not even bothering with the PDF and just taking notes in the Word doc.
The
problem is that I can't match up my notes with the information in the
course
material. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can read through the info
in
the PDF and be able to take notes without leaving the program displaying
the
PDF. I've got access to a Windows 7 64 bit laptop with JAWS 11 and 12,
a
Verizon iPhone and an iPad first generation. I do not have a Bluetooth
keyboard for my i-devices, but if that is all I am missing to make some
app
work, a trip to the apple store could be worked out.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Annette

Re: [Blind-Computing] templates using word 2003

2011-07-07 Thread Nikolay Todorov

Hi Yvonne,

I answered also a message about templates, but my description was not so
detailled. Having yours, I will just update point 3 a bit

which, I think may be even more detailled:

3. In the Save dialog box, navigate to the save as type combobox, and
choose the item labelled: Document templates *.dot.
Now go back to the box labelled File name and give a name to your template
and than hit ENTER.

Remove point 4, of your description, because hitting enter means clicking
the save button.

I think an easy way to activate your template is to open your windows
explorer, go to
the location you saved it, select it and hit enter. Word will open with a
new document that is based on the template.

Nikolay

Subject: [Blind-Computing] templates using word 2003

hello
not sure if it was this list i wrote to regarding how to set templates for
use in m s word 2003 using xp.

but someone sent me a step guide to which i followed.
however i no longer have the email so no idea who sent it.
but i do have the information saved as a word document.
anyway the person who wrote said this
1. Create a document you wish to use as a template

2. Click Save or use the Ctrl + S shortcut key

3. In the Save dialog box, navigate to the templates folder (the path is
generally C:\Documents and settings\user name\Application
data\Microsoft\Templates)

4. Click Save

To create documents based on this template, select New from the File menu.
In the New Document task pane, click on General Templates. You should see
your document under the General tab. Highlight it and then click OK.

You can also open the template from the Program menu in Windows. Simply
click New Office Document. You will be presented with the Templates dialog
box, from which you can select your document on the General tab.

One of the benefits of creating a template using the preceding steps is
that you can easily make changes to the template. Opening the document
from Windows or by using the Open command in Word will open it as a
regular document, allowing you to make changes that will then be reflected
in the template.

Note: This applies to Microsoft Word 2003 running on Windows XP. If you're
using Office 2007 or Windows Vista, find out how to create Word templates
quickly

now this is what i did and got these things of which i am not sure what
they are or what they do.

1 press alt f for foxtrot

select new and press enter

then these appeared

some tabs of which one said templates on office online the other said on
my computer, i presume this is the one i want so i press enter.

i get the following message spoken by jaws
blank document
using the right arrow key i get these spoken by jaws
xml document, email,webpage,
pressing the down arrow i get these two announcements
blank document and yvonnes headed letter.
i presume yvonnes headed letter is the template i wanted to create
i press enter and a new document for editing is there to type what i want
in to.
now what are thos ones mentioned above for and how do i delete the empty
blank document?
and last but not least what happens if i type something in to yvonnes
headed letter and i save it
when i press at f and select new if i go to yvonnes headed letter will the
document be blank or will it contain the text i saved.

any help on this is gratefully appreciated
thank you

Yvonne

I see nothing against it, besides, that mailling should be done only form 1
version due to different ways the MAPI32.DLL works.
If you install more than 1 outlook for that reason, you will be left with
none mailling possibility, which is really bad.

I have 4 Office version at my machine, but I know how to handle them. If the

Re: [Blind-Computing] templates in word 2003

2011-07-04 Thread Nikolay Todorov

Hi,

You start making your template in MS WORD 2003, just as you start a normal
document. At any moment, when you would like to save it

you choos to save it as Word template.

There are two main purposes of using templates, 1 is to predefine a document
layout and a text you want to use more than once in
your documents. The second reason is to have macros (Repeating actions, or
even small programs) you want to apply to the documents you make.

I guess you want to use it for the first described reason. If so when you
open your windows explorer and select the template, just hit the
enter key and you open a new document based on that template. The changes
you make here, will be saved on the document, the template remains

as you created it.

If you have further and more specific question, please ask them.

Re: [Blind-Computing] My computer is slow to boot up

2011-06-22 Thread Nikolay Todorov

Hi Dan,

Would you be so kind, to mention which operating system your computer runs?

I will say how you may find out that using Windows XP:
1. Press the windows key and go to the run command.
2. At the combobox labeled open, type msconfig and press the enter key.
3. By pressing the Ctrl+tab go to the tabpage labeled Startup
4. Here you will find a column listbox with the following items for each row
containing a process that starts:
4.1. Status/item - that is a checkbox followed by the name of the process
that is starting.

4.2. Command - points to the location and executable that is started.
4.3. Location - point to the registry key that contains the info about the
process.

By pressing a space bar you may either stop or start a process, depanding on
the value of the leading checkbox.

By activating the ok button the changes are saved.

I would definitely advise caution when disabling items in msconfig if the

any startup items or services that I may need more information about.
Particularly, some services are absolutely needed for normal operation and
disabling them can cause undesirable problems.

Hi Dan,

and last try if you will please.
1. Go to start menu and than select run
2. On the combobox type %userprofile% that is the environment variable that
will guide you to your home folder in documents and settings

3. Here select the start menu folder
4. And here select the programs folder.

Now you see the structure of your programs submenu displayed by explorer
in a folder and file way where the folders are submenus and the files the
shortcuts to your programs. If you have not find the desired programs here,
that means that they are really gone.

To make sure you see the entire content of your programs folder I'd advice
that you temporarely unhide your hidden folders so you miss nothing. In case
you don't know how it is done please say it and I will write it in a
seperate email.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] What Font is most often used in Documents?

Dear Friends,
I want to set my Word 2007 Normal Template, and want to set the font to
what is most often used in general office Correspondence.

May I ask you what font do you use and suggest?

I know Times Roman is most often used in email and such, and JAWS reads
that so well, but what about Correspondence to Sighted People, sort of
like in a Official Capacity?

Thanks for your help!

Re: [Blind-Computing] Corrupt Jaws12 mirror display drivers.

2011-05-25 Thread Nikolay Todorov

Hi,

I think what goes on with you, is that your video adapter drivers are
corrupt. To make sure what I say is true, please check the

current screan resolution, it should say 640 x 480.

If so, please reinstall your video device drivers, (do it with care, if you
are absolutely sure you may handle that), than reboot the

machine and than start dealling with JAWS.

That description is for Windows XP, if you are running Vista or Windows 7,
you screan resolution may differ than 640 x 480, but should be the

lowest possible.

Regards,
Nikolay

Listers,

Okay, I blew it this time

I was having problems with Jaws so I uninstalled everything including the
mirror display drivers in device maniger. I reinstalled Jaws at least,
three times but I'm getting a message saying, some thing like, the mirror
display drivers need to be repaired. So, how is that done? I've
rebooted

the computer as I was told by Jaws to fix the problem, but thatdidn't fix
it. That too, was done several times. This is Jaws12 I'm dealing with,
and

I did a full repair by installing the latest build of Jaws, and still
nothing!.

If anyone knows how to fix this, please, tell me. Jaws isn't quite right
with out those mirror drivers.

Thanks to all!

2011-05-25 Thread Nikolay Todorov

Hi,

That's true it really sounds like Windows 98 resolution, however if a video
device driver is corrupt that is exactly the reslution that pops up.
I had this effect, when via add/remove programs remove the video
intercept of JAWS 12, I mean I had sach a case.

Hi Nickolay,
The screen resolution that you gave sounds more appropriate for Windows
98.
I believe the recommended resolution for Jaws and Windows XP, is 1024 by
768,

that is what I have been using since XP came out.

Re: [Blind-Computing] I am changing my email on outlook doesn't let mesend to my wife.

2011-05-03 Thread Nikolay Todorov

Hi Jim,

I have seen this problem once and I will offer this solution, though I am
not really sure if the case is identical.

1. Go to Outlook main menu.
2. Go to TOOLS and than pick up OPTIONS
3. By pressing control tab, go to Mail format tab page.
4. From the combobox labeled Compose in this message format, choose HTML.

You may try with the thre formats, I suspect you are using plain text, but
in Outlook 7, in rair cases that is a bit of a problem

Hope that helps
Nikolauy

Outlook won't let me forward anything to my wife. I am running outlook
2007,

on a windows 7 machine, 64 bit, with jaws 12, latest update. What would
prevent me from sending forwards to my wife, and when she sends anything
to

me, it goes in my junk mail folder. Jim

Re: [Blind-Computing] program sounds

2011-04-30 Thread Nikolay Todorov

Hi Rick and Anna,

You may look for those WAV files also in the personal settings location, if
they exist.

Here is a way to look there:
1. Go to start menu either by pressing the ctrl+esc or windows key
2. Go to run, activate it and at the combobox shown, type %appdata%
3. Press enter and you will be posisionned in your windows explorer in your
application data folder.
4. Try to find out the folder of your virus protection software, open it and
look for the mentionned WAV files, if they exist.

Please note that the options written in quotation are in English and are
subject to local lables depanding on your Windows language.

Have a good weekend!

Hi Anna,
Well, I was hoping that they used individual files, and we could have
tried raising the volume in

Windows Sound Recorder at least.
Sorry, I'm fresh out of ideas at the moment.

Hi Anna,
Here is something you can try:
Locate the folder for your anti-virus program, which should be located in
C:\Program Files
Open the folder, and look thru the files and see if you find any .wav
files

If you do, let me know, and we will go from there.

Refering to IE9, does any one know a key combination to access the download

Hi Bill,
If IE9 shows up in uninstall programs,
then simply uninstall it, and the system should revert to IE8.

So long as we are on the subject, how can one go back to IE 8?

I installed IE 9 and find it obtrusive at best, can I simply uninstall it
and then reactivate IE 8 or must I first download a copy of IE 8?
