and last try if you will please.
1. Go to start menu and than select "run"
2. On the combobox type %userprofile% that is the environment variable that
will guide you to your home folder in "documents and settings"
3. Here select the "start menu" folder
4. And here select the "programs" folder.
Now you see the structure of your "programs" submenu displayed by explorer
in a folder and file way where the folders are submenus and the files the
shortcuts to your programs. If you have not find the desired programs here,
that means that they are really gone.
To make sure you see the entire content of your "programs" folder I'd advice
that you temporarely unhide your hidden folders so you miss nothing. In case
you don't know how it is done please say it and I will write it in a
seperate email.

I used to be able to arrow down through the programs menu and unused
programs would show up. Now, however, this is not the case.

Is there any chanse that your Windows shows up the recentlly used programs
firstly. I mean that if you go to
Start -> Programs, at first the most used programs show up? However if
that
is the case, by pressing the down arrow key, your submenu will show all
programs.

I have the start menu set to classic view and many programs are missing.
They are however, showing in the control panel. I tried changing the
start
menu to the XP view and some are still missing. I have no Microsoft
Office
items and some others which I'm not even sure about.

under Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel?

I'm running XP Home. Normally I use desktop shortcuts to open programs;

I happened to check my start menu and noticed that several programs are
missing. I've check in both the control panel and in documents and
settings
to make sure everything is where it's supposed to be. I tried a system
restore in safe mode but the programs are still missing from the start
menu.
I would appreciate any help or suggestions for fixing this.
