[Blind-Computing] The new Skype 4.0 useable or not with JAWS 10

2009-02-23 Thread Petro T. Giannakopoulos

The new Skype is out and is it useable with JAWS 10 and with no scripts? I
currently use Skype 3.8 with no scripts. From what I read the layout has
changed (buttons) and the sound and video has been dratically improved. Did you
uninstall Skype before installing this version? All I need Skype is to make
calls and not the other features like chat, send a file is not important to me.
Any information is greatly appreciated.

[Blind-Computing] Windows Firewall issue person had

2009-02-20 Thread Petro T. Giannakopoulos

I never seen an update for the Windows XP firewall unless he/she did the
service pack update and I think it was done when jumping from SP1 to SP2. This
big update enabled (turned on) the Windows firewall. If he/she was told to
download this update via a popup or message on the screen or via email, it was
fake. Spyware or virus attack. I am only telling you what I think here.

[Blind-Computing] More on Image For Windows 2.24

2009-02-13 Thread Petro T. Giannakopoulos

Tech support tells me that version 2.24 for Image For Windows is almost
identical to version 2.++ except for treeviews list they have changed for
source and target and they said it could be manipulated with the keyboard the
treeviews. They also confirmed it was still the same when it comes to doing the
reload process with the DVDS or CDs and that they just added a button for
closing the optical tray on the last step of the reload process. You can
install this program on 2 computers if purchased. For David who did the
podcasts on Image For Windows did you use a wired keyboard or a RF based
keyboard (no wires)? Reason is what will happen if the user is using
RF/infrared keyboard will the keyboard work when PhyLock kicks in? Tech support
has not answered this for me yet.

[Blind-Computing] Image for Windows questions

2009-02-08 Thread Petro T. Giannakopoulos

My guess here is that most blind users were using Image for Windows version
1.xxx because if you go to the website for this product you will notice they
have Version 2.24 made available on February 7, 2009. So can a user use this
new version with a screen reader? They have a 30 day treal. Anyone willing to
test it? Thank you.

[Blind-Computing] Recuva 1.23 slim is still accessible with JAWS 10

2009-02-07 Thread Petro T. Giannakopoulos

Downloaded Recuva 1.23 slim version and it works with JAWS 10. The slim version
installs no toolbar. Less junk the better. I was originally using version 1.09.
The interface has changed is much better now. Read the user guide. Only
negative I found in my brief testing and this was the case with the older
version I had is the listview list of files it found there is no idea if an
item was checked or not in the list. After it does the scan for you all items
in the listview box are unchecked. Pressing spacebar selects that file for you
or arrowing down to that file highlights/selects it for you but if you move
away it is unselected if you use your arrow keys. If it told me checked or
unchecked/unselected it would be much better. The other thing I noticed is the
files I recovered for fun here were not the actual files pertaining to the
actual file manes. For example the recovered file was computer-show.mp3 but
when listening to this file it was a sports show
instead. The files I recovered were from a memory card - compact flash card. I
read that its better with NTFS file system instead of FAT file system which is
the memory card types file system format. No problem. This is a good tool to
have around just in case you accidently delete something you need. File
download is only 870 kb.

[Blind-Computing] Norton AV 2009 with JAWS

2009-02-06 Thread Petro T. Giannakopoulos

Still using Norton AV 2006 with subscriptions to the virus definitions. Not the
internet security suite. Has anyone tried out the Norton AV 2009 product with
JAWS 10? I know some of you are using AVG 8 and Nod32 2.7 or 3.0 out there but
what about Norton AV 2009? I also use Windows Live OneCare and Nod32 om my
other computers. Windows Live OneCare will be no longer around by the end of
the year. I have no issues with Symantec who make Norton products. They work
for me so that is why I am asking about Norton AV 2009 if it can be used with
JAWS. I also heard that the PC Tools AV product is useable but that is all. Let
me hear what you use there please. Thank you.

[Blind-Computing] Recuva 1.23 with JAWS 10 accessible or not

2009-02-06 Thread Petro T. Giannakopoulos

Still using an older version of Recuva which I found on the blind-computing.com
site. Do any of you know if the current version Recuva 1.23 is still useable
with JAWS 10? It's a good handy program to have around if something gets
deleted from your hard drive that you need to recover. Recuva site is
http://www.recuva.com

Piriform also makes CCleaner. That's with two letters C's in C C l e a n e r.
