Re: [Blind-Computing] need recomendation for a good pc sharing program
Hello Melissa, Depending on the files that you want to copy there should be no problem copying the files from one windows computer to another. If the files are of a specific kind of file, Microsoft word 2007 or Excel 2007 and you are copying them to a computer that only has Microsoft word 2003, you might have to download an update to allow the older version of word to read the newer version, but other than version issues there should be no problem copying from one computer to another. You can just copy the files to a USB drive and transfer the files that way or if this will be a routine procedure it might be worth getting a router HTH, - Original Message - From: Melissa Tucker melissatuck...@att.net To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Sent: Tuesday, January 03, 2012 7:33 AM Subject: [Blind-Computing] need recomendation for a good pc sharing program I'm running windows and would like to move or copy files from one to another. any suggestions on a program running windows xp. both computers running windows pc. Hello Lloyd, I would suggest that if you can afford it, to purchas a Link-sys router, instead of bothering with cross over cables. By using a router instead of cross over cables you will have faster file transferring and both computers will have access to the internet. I am not sure of the other routers, but a Link-sys wrt54g router is pretty easy to setup and will allow your local area network (LAN) to be expanded later when you out grow the two original computers. Andre, I am uncertain why you had to reboot to get Jaws to speak again. I am still using a 32 bit version of Windows, but I would have guessed that your control-alt-j hotkey would have worked. If it does not, well no harm, no foul. /* @echo off rem kill / start jaws :_begin if /i %1% EQU K goto _kill if /i %1% EQU /K goto _kill if /i %1% EQU S goto _start if /i %1% EQU /S goto _start if /i %1% EQU /? goto _help goto _help :_kill rem stop jaws 11 C:\Program Files\Freedom Scientific\Runtime JAWS\11.0\JFWKill.exe goto _end :_start rem start jaws 11 C:\Program Files\Freedom Scientific\JAWS\11.0\jfw.exe goto _end :_help echo Jaws [ /k /s ] echo where /k = kill / unload jaws echo /s = start or restart jaws echo . :_end cd \ */ The batch file is currently setup for Jaws 11 on Windows 32. Re: [Blind-Computing] External Hard Drive Question
Hello Donnie, Here are two ideas that might help you with your external hard drive problem. 1. It may be a power problem. You can purchase an external hard drive enclosure from almost any where that sells computer parts. Once you get the external drive enclosure, take the external hard drive out of the current enclosure and put it into the new one and it might work. 2. I have heard that if you have a faulty drive, you can put it in the freezer for a while and some times this lets the drive work long enough to get your data off of the drive. I have never needed to use the freezer idea, but I have put old drives into drive enclosure kits. If you go with the drive enclosure kit idea, make sure that the kit will match the type of drive you currently have. Re: [Blind-Computing] guide
Hello, Guide is not a new program, it is however a new acquisition by Dolphin The Veterans Affairs Blind rehabilitation centers and Visual Impaired Support Team Coordinators (VISTC) have been issuing Guide for around the last three years or so. It was made by a company from England and first offered in the U.S. by the company, Electronic Vision Access Solutions (EVAS). http://www.guide-evas.com/ I am not sure what Dolphin is charging for Guide, but the V.A. was paying around 750.00 per license. Guide is a real good program for what it is meant for. Many older or disabled Veterans do not want to learn how to use a computer, but they want to be able to write and read email from their family and friends. Guide provides access to email, internet access and word processing in a menu type structure, very similar to the start menu in Windows XP. Each menu option can be spoken and each option usually takes only one or two choices to get to where you want to be such as composing email or reading email. From a tech support point of view, Guide is a lot easier to support than either ZoomText or Jaws. ZoomText is the magnifier of choice for V.A. supported Veterans and Jaws is the screen reader of choice. Hello Listers, I have been trying to create a home office network. But it's isn't working like I thought it would. Will some one please tell me stet by step, just how to create a home network? I have Vista Ultimate on both notebook and PC. I did know to put the same workgroup name on both computers. Because I'm using vista, I got my brother to make sure that printer sharing is on, files sharing is on, I don't want password sharing on so that is off. I forget the exact wording, but we set both machines to be able to find each other, and thay are? But when I find the other unit, I can't get in to it. In other words both computers are seeing each other however, I can not get in to them. The PC will find the notebook, and the Notebook will find the PC I need help here, I've been trying to get this done for quite awhile now. If there's a tutorial, or documents, some kind of instructions, tell me where and how to get them and I will do so right away, I need this network for my office immediately. Thanks to all! Carliss I really do believe that someone out there have done networking with Vista even though windows7 is so much easier to work with. Re: [Blind-Computing] Another question about video intercept
Hello, It sounds like you might have tried to install the video intercept more than once. I would try to uninstall the current screen reader and the video intercept and start over. There might be an issue with having more than one screen reader on the system. In that case you might have to uninstall both screen readers. Then install jaws first. Then if you have to install the other screen reader. But from the information that you have given, I think that by uninstalling the current version of jaws and reinstalling the video intercept you might have some success.
