Here is a tip I ran across on another list that I thought might come in
handy for a lot of us.

Dealing with lights on your router, modem or other device.

For Lisa and others who may be concerned with knowing the status of
indicator lights on a router or modem, I can determine which lights are on,
off, or blinking with a light probe. Independent Living aids has one for
twenty-three dollars and change. They work well for a number of things. I
use my probe to tell me about the lights on various cooking devices such as
a rice cooker, foreman grill, and many other things. It will find lights on
those little cube shaped power supplies that plug into the wall; the
blinking light on the victor stream;  the light on the computer speakers;
and a host of other things I can't bring to mind just now. Just a thought.

Hope this helps. Take care.

Yes, that is so true. We have a modem from Clearwire and all five lights
need to be blinking before we have a strong signal.

Rich has a light probe and it works perfect.
We also use it for lights in the house if they are left on or not and that
probe is a life saver especially when you are paying the electric bill.

I have used the vOICe in the past to check if lights etc. are on, and it
also has a colour filter mode to let you only scan for certain colours, and
while it needs either a computer with a webcam or a suitable mobile phone to
run on, it's free:

This light probe sounds like a handy little gizmo, but what kind of
batteries does it use? I have discovered that many of these devices come
with button-cell batteries which are sealed inside and thus impossible to
replace. So if the batteries die after a few months of use, you would have
to buy another light probe, right?

Yes, these probes respond when they detect light and are silent when no
light is detected. There are also probes that vibrate instead of making a
sound. So if the light is blinking, the probe will respond with beeps or
vibrations in the same pattern as the flashing light. Some color
identifiers are able to work as a light probe as well.

In the case of a flashing or blinking light, does the probe
give intermittent audible beeps to indicate such versus a
solid tone to indicate a light that stays on?

Yes, that is so true. We have a modem from Clearwire and all
five lights
need to be blinking before we have a strong signal.
Rich has a light probe and it works perfect.
We also use it for lights in the house if they are left on
or not and that
probe is a life saver especially when you are paying the
electric bill.

Hi All;

Here is a tip I ran across on another list that I thought

might come in

handy for a lot of us.

Dealing with lights on your router, modem or other device.

hi folks, thought of this a while back, and then saw this

post and

realized
I was right, it will work, so passed it along! elf -

For Lisa and others who may be concerned with knowing the

status of

indicator lights on a router or modem, I can determine

which lights are

on,
off, or blinking with a light probe. Independent Living

aids has one for

twenty-three dollars and change. They work well for a

number of things. I

use my probe to tell me about the lights on various

cooking devices such

as
a rice cooker, foreman grill, and many other things. It

will find lights

on
those little cube shaped power supplies that plug into the

wall; the

blinking light on the victor stream; the light on the

computer speakers;

and a host of other things I can't bring to mind just now.

Just a

thought.
Lois Goodine.

Hope this helps. Take care.
Mike
