[Blind-Computing] Removing Avast
Can anyone tell me the steps for removing Avast anti-virus? I have a friend who would like to install MS security essentials instead, but I recall when I removed Avast there was a hidden part that had to be deactivated or the program would not uninstall completely. I think I just need a memory jog, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
Re: [Blind-Computing] Removing Avast
Hello you have to go to settings and then go to trouble shooting then uncheck the box called self defender. Then it asks you are you sure say yes. Then go to the avast webcite and download the removable tool. I have the tool I can try to send it to you if you want. - Original Message - From: Dan Murphy mwe...@roadrunner.com To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Sent: Sunday, June 05, 2011 6:42 PM Subject: [Blind-Computing] Removing Avast Can anyone tell me the steps for removing Avast anti-virus? Re: [Blind-Computing] Removing Avast
Hi. I don't know if it would work because it says something about booting windows in safe mode, and that would mean no speach, but now I remember the part about unchecking that thing in trouble shooting, so maybe she dan try that, then just try uninstalling it in the add/remove dialog. - Original Message - From: angelina stabile angies...@verizon.net To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Sent: Sunday, June 05, 2011 7:08 PM Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] Removing Avast Hello you have to go to settings and then go to trouble shooting then uncheck the box called self defender. Re: [Blind-Computing] removing avast
Hello. I am not sure how to use avast, but one thing you can try is booting your computer into safe mode, and then try to remove the program. However, you may need sighted help to do this, because you will not be able to use your screen reader. To boot into safe mode, press the F 8 key while the computer is booting. From the advanced boot options menu that appears, you will need to go to the safe mode option with your arrow keys, and press enter. After your computer boots into safe mode, try removing the program. There may be a better solution, but as I am not familiar with the Avast software, this is the only solution I can think of at this time. You could also try removing the program manually, but this process can be complicated, and dangerous if you delete the wrong thing. Have a good day. Re: [Blind-Computing] removing avast
Another thing to try is to open task manager and find avast running process and stop it. You can also probably do this with something like end it all. Once it is closed removal should be easy. -Original Message- From: blind-computing-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:blind-computing-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Joshua Klander Sent: Friday, April 29, 2011 2:42 PM To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] removing avast Hello.
