Re: [Blind-Computing] Switching Windows 7 to Classic View
hey all, why not install the clasic shell? something that you may get by searching through the search engines? -- From: "Scorpio Forever" Sent: Wednesday, July 07, 2010 10:27 AM To: "blind Computing" Subject: [Blind-Computing] Switching Windows 7 to Classic View Hi All, I've tried and tried, but to no avail. I am running a Toshiba L500 laptop with Windows 7 64 bit edition home. I am trying to get Windows to appear like Classic Windows, but for the life of me, I simply can't do it. I should also say that I'm using Jaws 11 latest build 64 bit edition. I've gone and sought out the Microsoft Technical bulletin on how to do this, but some of the steps they're suggesting just aren't there. A perfect example is how they tell you to switch to the classic start menu. They say to go to the Control Panel, then to appearances and personalization's, then to the personalization link, then to taskbar and start menu properties, then to the start menu tab, and on that tab, you're supposed to select classic start menu. Well, first and foremost, the appearances and personalization link isn't there, and while the personalization and taskbar and start menu properties links are there, this selection to choose the classic start menu is simply not there. All I've got on that tab is a customize button, and a few other things, like show recent programs and recent files checkboxes, and one other thing, but like I said, I've gone through the entire thing, and nothing is thee. So, does anyone have any suggestions? I've also found that the start menu has two icons for Internet Explorer, one for 64 bit, and another stating just Internet Explorer. I figured out that it's the second one I want, but there isn't even one on the desktop. I've got other icons like computer and control panel on the desktop, but the important ones like Internet Explorer and a few others I was looking for just aren't there. So, can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Please? Thanks. Re: [Blind-Computing] Switching Windows 7 to Classic View
Hi Scorpio, You have answered your own question really. There is no classic Windows like there was in Vista or earlier. You are stuck with the Windows 7 look and feel. The only thing you can do is change the theme to Windows Classic. This will remove the desktop from the alt+tab list, as well as turn off things like aero that we don't really need anyway. But that is all you can do. Sorry.
