[Blind-Computing] java and Jaws

2007-09-13 Thread Larry Stansifer
Hi folks,

What are the features and benefits of having Java installed
on my machine?

I read through the Jaws and Java blurb in the popular
applications section of Jaws, searched both blind computing
and jaws-users and couldn't find much.
I am using Jaws 8.current, IE-7 and windows-XP home.

Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

Regards

Larry Stansifer

The only benefit I know of having Java on your machine is to run programmes
written in the Java cross-platform programming language. Hope that helps.

Is there any way to tell if a web site employs Java?
What is the downside if any to having it installed?
Is this something that I need to load and unload each time I
visit a web site?

Hi Larry,
No real downside to having it installed,
and when it is necessary, it will be used by the application requiring it.
No user interaction required, unless you choose to update it.

No. Any website that requires Java will run the Java applett, providing the
Java software is installed in the first place. Hope that helps.
