Re: [Blind-Computing] Excel 2007 | Totaling - New Rows Are Added

2010-05-07 Thread Cliff Smales

Hello, Bill:

I don't use the same excel program as you, but I think the method is the
same.

To total a row of cells, write thefollowing formula:

=Sum(c10:c15)

The addition of additional cells, rows, and so on, comes under your Insert
option

Hi,

How can I total a group of cells in one column, c10:c15) and be able to
insert new rows above row 10 and not affect my formulas.

When I insert new rows, my formula does not change when the group of
cells gets pushed down and the cell number changes. I would

like it to adjust as I add new rows to the top of the spreadsheet.

I am using the formula,
=sum(c10:c15)
Is there another formula I can use that adjusts after I have initially set
it?

I am using Excel 2007 and JAWS 11.

Thank you,

Bill

Hi Cliff,

It adjusted my formula as I inserted rows above my column I was totaling. I
must have done something incorrectly the first time I
inserted new rows.

Thank you,
Bill

Bill:

I have a confession to make: I'd read about the technique but had only used
it for the first time this evening.

Quite a learning venture for us both. I'm glad I could be of help. Excel is
one really great program.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Excel 2007 | Totaling - New Rows Are Added

2010-05-07 Thread Bill Gallik

Bill,

I've encountered the same problem as you. When you set up the formula --
SUM(C5:C10) -- and then insert another row ahead of Row 5 the value in the
new C5 is not reflected in the sum. I tried this at least 4 times with
the same results.

Here's how I would go about doing this, I would employ a NIL cell at C4 (or
C5 if there's some reason you can't use Row 4 and then use the formula -
SUM(C5:C11) - and then as you insert row above Row 5 the formula will
automatically adjust to increase the last cell of the formula to reflect the
new row number it occupies. In other words, C11 will become C12, then C13,
then C14, etc.
