If you use, www.m.facebook.com just enter onthe , find friends link.
This will bring up an edit box where you can type in your friends name.
Type it in and press enter.
Depending on how popular your friends name is, it may bring up several
results.
To make sure you have the correct friend you will need to enter on the name
to look at their profile to see if it is the one you are looking for. If
not, just alt left arrow back to the list of the results.

Re: [Blind-Computing] facebook user search

2012-08-20 Thread Trish
Hi again,

I forgot to mention, on my profile or it might be under the link for
friends, it gives additional links to find friends based on what info you
put as to where you live...city...state, and even if you provided a
town/state as your home town.

If this friend happens to maybe be a friend of someone else already in your
friends list, then you could find their name, it always says...name, and add
friend link. Click on that, FB gives you a message that your request has
been sent to that person, and it's awaiting approval from them before they
choose to accept your friend request.

Another possibility, get this person to add you to their list, and accept
the request..

This can only work if you are friends with someone though. If you see a

arrow down past anyone else's comments to get to the edit field. Type what
you want to say, then either down arrow or tab to the share button and

Re: [Blind-Computing] Facebook Question

2012-08-18 Thread Trish
when you put their name in your comments, it automatically links it, since
if y'all all are friends that is. From your mobile device if you use that
means to FB, you can have as many as you want sharing in the conversation
thread, it would look like what happens when several people reply to a
message.
Sometimes, there's a share link this is a web site or something from you
tube they have posted, that you can share on your wall.

Hi,

If your asking how to add a friend on FB, just enter on the add or confirm
button if they send you a friend request that is.

Jaws hasn't told me if these buttons are high or low, but it does say add or
confirm. Which btw, when you confirm it usually opens another page.

Malwarebytes is blocking access to the indicated IP addresses and just
happens to tell you what port a connection was trying to be made on. Since
both of the services that you mentioned are peer to peer networks, it is
very possible that those IP addresses that your computer is trying to
connect to are associated with malicious activity, hence MWB is trying to
 block them for your protection.

BTW, I'm only trying to help you and my last message was only trying to
solicit the information necessary to resolve the problem, not imply anyone's
 level of knowledge.

 Have a nice day,

Re: [Blind-Computing] Facebook Question

2011-08-18 Thread kimsan
If you are using the regular fb page, press b until you hear account button
menu, press space bar, then on the next window that pops up, press b to jump
to the log out button and press space bar and you are done.
On the mobile facebook site, list your links and press l until you hear log
out and press enter or spacebar and you are done.
I have confirmed this method to have worked, because I just tried it before
I sent this message.
Take care.

Hi list,
It's AC. I just started having problems with the Facebook website. I am
using the mobile site.
M.facebook.com
I am able to log in, but I can no longer comment, like, or browse through
the info on the site. I have even tried refreshing the site, but that
doesn't work either. However, I have noticed that after I have clicked on
like for a particular posting, it may not show at first, but once I have
refreshed the page, it shows that the change was made. However, I am
still not able to do anything else with the site.
It looks like Facebook has been making changes behind the scenes that
don't seem Jaws or NVDA friendly.
I have used IE 7 and 8, Jaws 8, and NVDA but nothing works.
I am able to navigate other websites with no problem.
Like I said, this has just started happening this week.
Any suggestions?
Can anyone else verify this, or is this an individual incident? :)
Thanks in advance.

Yup.

Seems most likely something to do with DHTML.

Only workaround have found for now is that it still works the same on phone

messagingservice on Monday that includes facebook.comemail addresses in a
move seenas ashot across the bow of Google, Yahoo! and Microsoft.Facebook
founder Mark Zuckerberg unveiled what he called a
convergentmodernmessaging system that handles messages seamlessly
across all the ways youwantto communicate in a single inbox. The
messaging service blends online chat, text messages and other
real-timeconversation tools with traditional email, which Zuckerberg said
had lostfavorfor being too slow for young Internet users. It is true that
people will be able to have facebook.com email addresses, butthis is not
email, Zuckerberg said at an event in downtown San Francisco.Ithandles

a Gmailkiller aimed at the heart of free Web-based email services from
Google andsimilar services from Yahoo! and Microsoft. We don't expect
anyone to wake up tomorrow and say 'I'm going to shut downmyYahoo Mail or
Gmail account,' Zuckerberg said. But, he added: Maybe one day six
months, a year, two years out people willstart to say this is how the
future should work.Maybe email won't be as important a part as it was
before and we can pushpeople toward real-time conversations, he said. The
Facebook messaging service was intended to turn online exchanges
intoongoing conversations as opposed to intermittent back-and-forth
emailmissives, according to Facebook director of engineering Andrew
Bosworth. The system is definitely not email, Bosworth said. We modeled
it moreafterchat. The new messaging system, referred to inside the Palo

coming months to users.Approximately 350 million of Facebook's more than
500 million members fireoffmessages at the service, with more than four
billion digital missives sentdaily, according to Zuckerberg. With such a
large user base, a free personalized facebook.com email servicelaysdown a
powerful challenge to the established email giants -- Microsoft'sHotmail,
Yahoo! Mail and Google's Gmail.Hotmail currently has the most users,
361.7 million as of September, accordingto online tracking firmcomScore,
followed by Yahoo! with 273.1 million andGmailwith 193.3
million.Microsoft, which has a small stake in Facebook, is integrating
its popularOffice software into the social network's messaging system so
people will beable to share Word, Excel and Powerpoint documents as
attachments.Facebook's new messaging service comes amid sparring with
Google over datasharing. Google this month blocked Facebook from
importing Gmail contactinformation over the social network's refusal to
share data about its users.Facebook says this isn't a 'Gmail killer,'
but this is neither completelyaccurate nor completely wrong, said
Forrester analyst Augie Ray. Anythingthatmakes communication easier and
pulls attention away from Gmail is a 'Gmailkiller.'Facebook users can
decide whether to get word to friends using SMS, chat, emailor a Messages
feature at the social networking service.Messages will be received in

if anyone is experiencing some accessibility issues with the full-featured
version of the site because I'm having a hard time trying to use certain
features on it with JAWS 11 and Windows Vista. Thanks.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Facebook

2010-11-15 Thread Jolene Cardenas
hello once again,

I'm sorry but I forgot to mention that I've also used the (plain) Mobile
version of Facebook--the one which one of you had referred me to. Even there,
certain features aren't accessible and some of the Privacy Settings aren't
readily available either. Just within the past 24 hours alone, I've had a bit
of a heated discussion with Tech Support there because postings on the
mobile-friendly version of the page were disappearing mysteriously, the page
was freezing up (and causing JAWS to freeze up too), etc. I might have to
temporarily deactivate my account on Facebook because I'm sensing that a
privacy breach had occurred! Thanks for the feedback, and I'll just wait and
see what happens

aloha,
Jolene.

I also have problems with Jaws jumping around. It seems to just jump where
ever it feels like going at the time. I can scroll through the messages on
the main wall at sign in and end up missing about half of the messages as I
scroll down. I discovered this one day when I had scrolled down what I
thought was just a couple of messages and then had to go back to a prior
message. As I was scrolling up i found messages I had never even read. It
also will throw my cursor on occasion up in the address bar or tool bar when
I begin typing out a message to post. I have discovered though I do like
facebook.com for majority of things but for posting messages things go a lot
smoother if I use the facebook mobile site (M.Facebook.com). Hopefully
someone will have the solution to the problem. Flash is turned off on my end
as well as automatic refreshing.

I do agree that facebook mobile may be more useable and you are exactly
right on applications and features being trimmed back. I use the facebook PC
version because I like to chat from the site and the mobile site does not
allow that. I know there are third party programs that will allow for
chatting on facebook but I do not want to one have too many programs running
at once and two some of the programs if not all I believe take up space on
your computer don't they?

I tried the klango sight, or program the other day, and their facebook program
is great for posting to your friend's walls. It puts all of your friend's
names in a list, and you just enter on the one you want and then you get
options to left and right, one of the options is to post to their wall. I
haven't figured out anything like changing or reading statuses with it, and it
might not be possible with that.
Put the posting to a wall is simple with that, for what that's worth.

Don't you just wish the facebook designers would think of us blind
people? I just tried accessing my friend's wall again, and while it's
working jaws still seems to stutter and jump when reading. It doesn't
do it on anything else, so it must be the facebook site.

Hi I have jaws 11 and am finding navigating my facebook page very
difficult especially when trying to read friend's comments, the page
seems to jump around a bit and sometimes Jaws will read random numbers
when I use my arrow keys. Is anyone else having trouble with facebook?

I do agree that facebook mobile may be more useable and you are exactly
right on applications and features being trimmed back. I use the facebook
PC version because I like to chat from the site and the mobile site does
not allow that. I know there are third party programs that will allow for
chatting on facebook but I do not want to one have too many programs
running at once and two some of the programs if not all I believe take up
space on your computer don't they?

Well, mobile version, with same login details is rather more
usable/trimmed down - games etc. aren't there, but general stuff like
walls, status, etc. all works from it.

You may have to upgrade to a newer version of I.E. I think prior to
m.facebook.com facebook used silver light. Silver light or Silver lite is no
longer being supported by facebook. When I.E. 6 was new it is possible that
Silver Lite was being supported by facebook. Others will be able to tell you
more I never used Silver Light personally and when I started using JAWS I.E.
7 was already being used.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Facebook

I am trying to get started with a facebook account, I have successfully
sighned up, but the one that was the m.facebook.com seems to have bit the
dust.

Facebook it's self displays, but Jaws seems to be not as responsive or in
sync completely with the edit areas, and also, I seem to get a time lapse
while on the page and doing a refresh gives me the page cannot be
displayed thingy...

So I need to know what gives with all this before I decide if it's worth
it or not. Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe it's xp with ie 8 and jaws 11 but not the update of jaws 11 causing
some of my headaches?

Patricia

If you do not want to use the mobile version which was already suggested try
setting a place marker with jaws on the webpage. All you have to do is get
there once and set the placemarker.

Think this has been answered already so apologies in advance. On the
mobile site; the home page; you can see the live feeds after the first
few links. They come after Inbox, or at least after the what's on your

Re: [Blind-Computing] FaceBook Question

2010-01-21 Thread Jacob Kruger

Do you use the mobile or lite versions?

If you go to:
http://m.facebook.com/

It's a somewhat stripped down version, and while you'd still have to go down
through a bit of stuff to find newsfeeds, status, it's nowhere near as
cluttered as the full version.

It's the much simpler mobile phone version, but in IE, with jaws, you can

Excuse this if it's repetitive, I don't read these posts often, but I was
wondering how people use facebook with jaws. In internet explorer 8 it
seems as though I can't comment on people's status's nor do I have any
luck using those little buttons that say more or older posts or see
all 7 comments I press enter on the button that should expand those
things and nothing happens. I also have times when I write a wall post or
a private message to someone and I hit the button to submit and I wait and
I wait and I wait and nothing happens. I literally have to copy my note to
the clipboard, go to some other page and then click back onto the page I
was trying to use, paste my info back in and hit send and then at that
point it will send. I'm not sure why IE 8 hangs up like that.

In firefox I can't do anything except view my home page. The good thing is
that I can actually comment to anything I see there on my main news feed
since firefox allows jaws to recognize the buttons under the comment boxes
which ultimately submit the comment. If I try to click through to see
other people's pages it brings up this page that's more or less blank. It
has all the headers and navigational links and it has my name, but at that
point the whole thing hangs up on me and I literally have to go to the
address bar and retype www.facebook.com just to get me out of that funky
dead end space.

What's up with facebook and how do you all use it most effectively?

thanks,

Kate
